When The General passes a HUGE part of my childhood and early young adult life will be gone. The dentist in our small town in Ohio ( Dr. Dan Thomas) played in summer leagues in and around Orville with Coach Knight and through him the love for Indiana basketball began at ten years old.
Even though I did not get to play for you Coach, the life lessons you taught and your quote “ If I don’t get on a player about getting better and he gets a job and can’t do it he’ll be fired” ALWAYS is my motivation at anything attempted in life, THANK YOU

This is a great video! Coach Knight is what Indiana basketball is all about! I was just surfing TH-cam tonight, and decided to watch this! I’m so glad that he made it back to Assembly Hall! It’s so neat to see the genuine respect that he and the players have for one another! I think he really enjoyed coming back. Bloomington is definitely where he belongs. It’s great to see him back in the community! I heard he went to a women’s game this season as well. Hopefully he knows how welcome he is! I hope he chooses to come to some other games! Next season should be the 45th reunion of the 1976 team and I know he would want to be there for that! Coach Knight is a great guy that knows what it’s all about! He gave so much of his heart and energy to Indiana basketball!

My uncle was at this game. He was 88 years old, lived in rural Monroe County most of his life, and had said for years that he hoped to live long enough to see Coach Knight come back to Indiana. He passed in his sleep about 2 months later and the last time I saw him was the day after Coach came back. He was SO happy that day and I know he died a happy man, as his last big wish was to see Bobby Knight come back. RIP Coach Knight and Uncle Ed.

I remember when Coach Knight threw the chair, even tho he will be remembered for that, his MAIN memories will be the teams he coached. Just like Bill Snyder and Tom Osborne, they will never be forgotten for what they have done for the young men that played for them.

Leader of men. Never perfect, but none of us is. But I can say as a 43 year old Black man, Coach Knight is PRECISELY the kind of man I would want coaching/teaching/leading my now 17 year old son whose got D-1 interest right now. I would be secure knowing he'd show him not just what it takes to be a better ballplayer, but a better man. He deserved this moment.

It was a shame that not more players showed up. He coached thousands and a couple dozen came back. Assembly hall should have been filled with former guys

They should have given him a chair ... would have been fun to see how far he could still throw it.

He reminds me of my first grade teacher who would bring a giant ruler to class and would hit bad students who refused to do their homework to tears. The method was questionable but the intent was honorable. RIP Coach Knight and Ms. Woo.
