The PowerFlex 525 series of Variable Frequency Drives from Allen Bradley is highly utilized and respected within the automation field. The drives are compact, versatile, and easy to use. We’ve written an extensive tutorial on how to get started with these drives in a previous tutorial; it covers how to initialize the drive, connect it to an EtherNet/IP based PLC and how to set the right parameters.

In this tutorial, we’re looking to expand on the concepts and demonstrate a way to access and utilize the multiple Input and Output options available on the drive.
The reason you may want to utilize the IO is to save money on purchasing external components, integrate instrumentation into your drive and save floor space, wiring and cost. We’ve seen the need to integrate closely related sensors into a PowerFlex 525 application; this would be the right way to do it.

Nice demonstration. You covered a broad area and showed how to cover the material using a manual. Thanks 🙏

Thank you for the feedback. We've been asked to incorporate some more datasheets into the videos as people became confused about how some of the registers have been derived.

Thanks for video. Which video do you demonstrate how to read the drive in rslinx studio 5000?

is the datasheet wrong where it has the SNK & SRC labels (on the top not the ones at the bottom)? I mean, the way I understand is if the input is sourcing it is supplying 24V and according to those schematics if the if the internal "selector switch" is to the right it is labeled as SNK. I'd love to get that cleared out.

Wiring in the Pilot light, do you know where I can find the amp output (load) that the drive itself can put out? I am always wondering just how large of a load I can put on it.

That's actually a very good question I was thinking about myself. I looked at the datasheet and got the following info: The relay outputs can switch up to 3A while the Opto isolated output (where I wired the LED) provides 50mA of current. It's definitely not much, so you can easily burn the output if you wire up a big load. You'd probably want an external relay on those if you go that route.

How are you able to power this drive? are you using single phase 480v?

No, this drive has a 110VAC version you can power from a regular outlet.

How can we connect Powerflex 525 With AB 1769-L24ER-QBFC1B PLC without the ethernet?

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. You can send a speed signal for the PowerFlex via an analog signal.
