Even if you don't like flying on Spirit you should like them being in business. If they go under fare prices across the board will rise faster than ever.
Lol fares are not cheaper because of spirit…. Spirit took an all inclusive model and charged for everything separately…. When you add all the included value with other airlines the ticket price is almost the same. Also, now other airlines are offering similar “basic” fares that does not include as much stuff which again when compared with Spirit’s basic fare is not that much different or expensive… I do agree with the part that one less carrier will reduce the market competition and that will lead to higher overall prices eventually.

Greyhound may not be too bad in public transportation friendly countries, but Sprit is terrible. You need some kind of carry on or luggage storage. There is fee. How about taking public transportation, except New York, it's not doable. A lot savings are ridiculous difficult to achieve. Greyhound offer cheaper travel alternatives. The drawback is longer time n terrible stations if people have to stay overnight.

The biggest issue is short haul low cost flying with tons of flights between two cities a day are becoming harder and harder to run logistically and financially. Most carriers are prioritizing business travelers sadly since it’s a constant revenue stream. Most business travelers will use major carriers because accumulating status with them is substantially more beneficial and takes them more places direct. Frontier and spirit fly to some unique places which is nice but they often drive you to some odd connections and layovers if you’re trying to get half way across the country or more.

Plus, they don’t have as many flights as American, Delta, and United so if your flight gets canceled then you’re screwed.
I'd argue Spirit is great if you're not carrying bags and have at least some flexibility. If you're carrying bags the cost goes up quickly, and because they won't really help you can't count on them to expedite you getting back.

Customer service across industries has declined in recent years, soooo many chat bots that don’t solve anything so it’s not really that big of a difference in many cases
I will never stop flying with Spirit. I love my $90 or less round trips back home. The same 1.5hr flight is about $500-600 on Delta and about $400 on SW. Not going to happen. I'll take a 14hr bus ride before I pay those kinds of fares just to fly 1.5 hrs.
Some of the flights are cheaper then an Uber to the airport! They do low cost right. Snacks, wifi, bags, and more now come with the Big front seats. The blocked middle seat option is awesome 🤩

Well, more and more people care which is why they are bankrupt. I’ve had to book a few Spirit flights for friends and when you add a bag or an aisle seat for an older person that needs to be able to get to the restroom quickly… the price is the same as Southwest where bags are free and people are pleasant. Sorry I just don’t get it.
I’ve honestly never had a problem with Spirit Airlines. I’ve used them dozens of times and the only issue was when your flight got cancelled, but that happened to everyone a few years ago. You can even spend about $15 extra bucks and get a seat with extra leg room.
If you choose to fly Spirit Airlines, you made your choice. I dislike all this complaining when you know you were not going to pay a higher fee for a better airline. You get what you paid for plain and simple.
Just want to say, Spirit new package options are amazing and definitely changes the perspective of the “bare minimal” model options even with the cheapest option it comes with either a seat selection + check bag or carry on . Higher options even come with snacks (comfy and big seat) . I think they are trying
The price works for many but the consistent upselling for basic charges and inconsistent customer experience (cancelling or changing flights) is a concern
I travelled between DFW-LGA several times with Spirit. Its always housefull. All seats were sold. They served light refreshment too. I'm pretty sure Spirit will be fine.
This is how popular Spirit is: If there was a fight that broke out on American, Delta and JetBlue Airlines people would be shocked. If there was a fight that broke out on Spirit, people would be like "so....is that all?"
Ultra low cost carriers like Spirit, Frontier, and Allegiant, are getting squeezed out of major airports since they can't compete with the legacy and international carriers. The cost is simply too much for several gates. That's what is gonna doom the ULCCs. When instead of flying to Boston, if you want to fly Spirit, you're gonna have to fly to Providence or Manchester instead. If you need to be in Boston, you're likely flying Delta or JetBlue.
I rode spirit for the first time last year. I was very uncomfortable the whole process. But i only paid 120 for a roundtrip from Chicago to L.A so it was still worth it.
All spirit needed to do was have better customer service that’s it. And I am going to be very upset if Southwest takes away open seating --that was one of my favorite perks of that airline, in addition to their free two check bags. We need more options that are competitive . Not everybody wants a luxury, “first class” seating option
SWA is well on its way to destroying itself via activist investor. Open seating is going away and they will begin charging seat assignment fees. I expect bag fees are next. Their ridiculous pilot contract has reduced profitability. SWA is just becoming another “legacy” airline. They have lost all the culture Herb and Coleen built.
Flew Spirit once because I had an emergency funeral. Didn’t really pay attention to what airline I picked. On the return trip I did some calculations and found delta was the same price or cheaper after paying for baggage. Very disappointed with my experience considering my cheaper flight wasn’t cheaper.
Well, obviously a business can't pay out more money than they're charging customers... a ballplayer shouldn't expect a major league contract if they only play for a minor league team. Same goes for pilots. If customers and pilots want a premium economy or business class experience, then their are other airlines that serve that level.
@@WinterXR7 No, this isn't a stature or prestige or class thing... this is an issue where the company doesn't charge their customers a huge permium, and therefore you can't get blood out of a stone as an employee.
First of all the government should have stayed out of it. Secondly Ted and Robin failed to educate the judge about the reality, specifically that the ULCC business model has run it's course.
Denver-to-Ft Lauderdale-to-Bogota Colombia. Most of flying time was overnight. I did this flight 4 times in 2019/2020 to visit my wife-to-be I knew what I was getting into....paying to select your seat lol. It got me there and back. My wife flew Delta twice , Bogota-to-Salt Lake City. Nothing but problems. Late flights , baggage lost , misbehaving passengers. Seems Spirit worked better for me.
So different from the European market where low cost carriers are predominant and offer the most direct connections within the continent. And prices remain, often, dirt cheap.
Spirit was a great choice for me; it had great prices, and it took me where I needed to go. It's sad that flying is becoming a monopoly, and companies like Spirit are going out of business, leaving people with fewer choices.
As a frequent travel who only travels between Orange County and Las Vegas, I can’t really understand what the average passenger feels like on longer flights or flights that require connections. What I can say is that most Spirit planes use the same stretch of A gates that are easily accessible and close at Harry Reid Airport. If you’re traveling lightly, skinny and willing to eat before you travel, go for it especially if you’re flying a short distance like I do multiple times a year. It’s all about timing when you can purchase tickets at a very low price. Usually between 2-3 weeks in advance. In my case, I hope they keep this airline, but at the same time, I know that there are other options like Southwest that I would also occasionally take.
I've been flying Spirit and avoiding American Airlines and the likes because Spirit's fleet is made of Airbuses. They have no 737s. And don't tell me that the 737 MAX has been fixed - it has not been fixed well enough to my taste.
Spirit is needed, without them the other airlines will jack up their pricing. I hate flying with them, I pay a little extra to fly delta for the customer service, but I’ll always appreciate spirit
One reason spirit like airlines is getting less popular is the frequent delays for not getting runway and frequent wait after landing for not getting gates. I think this happens as they are low cost and they don't have the same privilege and flexibility to runway and gates as bigger flight companies. But that hurts the overall flying experience. Otherwise I would not mind going low cost no service for less than 2hr flights.
I took spirit airlines once because i had missed my early flight...😮 as soon as the flight took off, throughout the whole flight, i thought any minute the plane was going to crash. XL airline was another company i had bad experience with. One particular flight attendant during was rude, totally ruined my trip. I heard they went into bankruptcy recently.
I fly Spirit in limited circumstances. Only on trips where the 'big front seat' option is less or similar to what I would fly on another airline. If you pay for that, bags are free, food is free, you're in an old style first class seat with legroom, and the entire experience is better - you are actually treated well. Forget if that includes wifi, but I want to be off the grid on a plane and am very happy with a book. Beats what you're going to get on Southwest, and trying to duplicate the amenities on a legacy carrier will cost much more. All that said, the stereotype of the typical Spirit flyer is pretty accurate. Bunch of entitled people paying cheap fares and then complaining to high heaven. You just ignore them from the front row. Last trip was post-bankruptcy in December 24 - at that time, things were fine.
Spirits problem was that they were masking as a budget airline, but still providing budget airline services. After basic flight fare, bags, and a seat, you’ve already ended up paying what you’d pay flying with Delta or United. Couple this with how they treat their passengers, it no wonder that the airline is about to be done. It’s quite sad because there absolutely must be a viable budget airline. Canada has monopolized its airspace, United States is about to.
We have a white elephant here also. There are some ULCC airlines besides those mentioned in North America. They include. Volaris (Mexico) Flair (Canada) Allegiant (USA) And perhaps a few others. We need to watch them closely, and some of them are slowly growing in market share. I write this as an American in Arizona. I have flown on those airlines mentioned. They give pretty nice service.
Customers realized what most of us already knew. A-la-carte travel is never worth the hassle. You will fool passengers once with that system, but will not gain a customer base.
All customers are choosing now with the legacy carriers are Basic Economy fares...WHICH ARE A-LA-CARTE! They are just too dumb to realize it at purchase then get mad at the airport when they realize yes, you now have to PAY to select a seat, you have to PAY to check those 3 bags, and yes, you have to PAY b/c none of those things are included in the fare you selected!
I find it fun that, CNBC blamed Boeing on Southwest and every other airline having issues when it came to the 737, but I've seen Spirit specifically state that a combination of slow arrivals and ongoing groundings thanks to engine problems with their A320neos along with the fact that they were having problems filling the larger A321s and yet here CNBC spends less than 3 seconds on that issue. Nice. Way to journalism.
Spirit is the motel 6 of the air. Its fine if you need to take a quick cheap trip by yourself but if you have a family and multiple bags you are going to get nickeled and dimed till the cost is about the same as Delta anyway. Except with Spirit they have less amenities and the planes are congested with very little leg room.
Spirit is failing because of $100 bag fees at gate when your bag won't fit in that 2 small mis-measured bin! You can have only a backpack and they'll still charge u, if u don't pay it, they won't let u fly
Here's how to save the airline industry: 1) Offer your miles as reward points to video game developers 2) If players accomplish in-game goals they get rewarded with miles 3) Set game tournaments overseas where only gamers with enough miles can join. 4) Profit as you sell reward points to banks when players use their credit card and profit again when players reach in-game milestones.
Noooo - I Love SPIRIT !! IT GETS DISSED SO MUCH BUT I THINK ITS GREAT - ROCK BOTTOM PRICES & NO FRILLS - I MYSELF DON'T NEED FRILLS - IVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS MYSELF ??
The rise of buy now pay later services has also contributed to spirit losing revenue. A lot of people are choosing the better airlines since they can pay over time.
The whole "bare fare" thing is really stupid. I mean who is that supposed to attract? People that don't bring a bag? It just makes booking a flight annoying and it makes Spirit seem low-quality. So I hope they drop that. But there are plenty of routes in this country that the big carriers aren't flying. If Spirit would fly some of them then they'll get plenty of business. I mean ultimately all I really value is my time and money. Give me a direct flight on Spirit vs a layover on Delta/United/American and I'm picking Spirit every time.
But you have to ask yourself: are the other airlines really any better? Flying in the U.S is overall a terrible experience. At least Spirit doesn’t try to hide it 😭
Spirit executives preferred the merger with Frontier because it would have benefitted THEM (as GREEDY corporate guys) much more than the deal with jetBlue. These guys (Spirit and Frontier) are old cronies and go waaaaaay back. They had it all planned-out, then JB f'd it all up for them. That being said, while Spirit's business model may not appear to everyone, it enabled MANY people to travel quite affordably, which is a valuable service. Plus, they fly newer planes and have an excellent safety record.
Even if you don't like flying on Spirit you should like them being in business. If they go under fare prices across the board will rise faster than ever.

I’ve had to book a few Spirit flights for friends and when you add a bag or an aisle seat for an older person that needs to be able to get to the restroom quickly… the price is the same as Southwest where bags are free and people are pleasant. Sorry I just don’t get it.
Insider trading by other company, look at FTC background
I still remember taking the first flight from LAS to MEM in 2022 when they restarted that route. I still use the coffee cup they gave us on arrival.
This is like going on a Ryanair flight and complaining of the service. You flew two hours for £30!!
🎯
Maybe it's the only thing some can afford. Also, this video isn't arguing against Spirit's service, so whom are you even addressing?
Just want to say, Spirit new package options are amazing and definitely changes the perspective of the “bare minimal” model options even with the cheapest option it comes with either a seat selection + check bag or carry on . Higher options even come with snacks (comfy and big seat) . I think they are trying
The price works for many but the consistent upselling for basic charges and inconsistent customer experience (cancelling or changing flights) is a concern
I travelled between DFW-LGA several times with Spirit. Its always housefull. All seats were sold. They served light refreshment too. I'm pretty sure Spirit will be fine.
SLF doesn’t mean profitability
I flew Spirit from Dallas Fort-Worth to Atlanta last Christmas. It was a great flight with no problems.
You don’t save any money because you’ll end up having to fork over more money to book through another airline once your flight is canceled
I've flown with them, but Damm, it's a circus with some of the people that fly with them.
This is how popular Spirit is: If there was a fight that broke out on American, Delta and JetBlue Airlines people would be shocked. If there was a fight that broke out on Spirit, people would be like "so....is that all?"
I never had a problem with spirit
im too broke to speak on air travel. I would fly them! glad you never had an issue.
You don’t have to lie now
I fly Spirit... Never had a problem 🙈
Amazon sells bags specifically designed for spirit airline. Says a lot about its practice and how people are fed up
I would not refer to them as an icon of budget airlines. They came long after the true pioneers in budget airline travel.
Spirit flies into major cities, including Boston. It's Allegiant that flies into smaller airports
i use spirit all the time for vegas 0 issues.
I actually prefer to fly Spirit over some airlines. At least they have new planes
Maybe Spirit and Hertz should merge and come up with packages and better more efficient customer services
That’s a good idea.
Spirit's comfy 1st class seat is really nice, thick with great cushion, like a recliner at home, but i just hate their bag fees at the gate
Oh wow blame the pilots for wanting better salaries for bringing down the company.
Well, obviously a business can't pay out more money than they're charging customers... a ballplayer shouldn't expect a major league contract if they only play for a minor league team. Same goes for pilots. If customers and pilots want a premium economy or business class experience, then their are other airlines that serve that level.
We can blame them for working at the McDonald’s equivalent of an airline.
@@WinterXR7 No, this isn't a stature or prestige or class thing... this is an issue where the company doesn't charge their customers a huge permium, and therefore you can't get blood out of a stone as an employee.
Seriously, why can't they just be poorer!? (/s)
Wonder what that judge who rejected the JetBlue merger deal thinks now 🙄
First of all the government should have stayed out of it. Secondly Ted and Robin failed to educate the judge about the reality, specifically that the ULCC business model has run it's course.
Denver-to-Ft Lauderdale-to-Bogota Colombia. Most of flying time was overnight.
I did this flight 4 times in 2019/2020 to visit my wife-to-be
I knew what I was getting into....paying to select your seat lol. It got me there and back.
My wife flew Delta twice , Bogota-to-Salt Lake City. Nothing but problems. Late flights , baggage lost , misbehaving passengers.
Seems Spirit worked better for me.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds
As mentioned in the video. American went through bankruptcy too. Spirit will be fine.
So different from the European market where low cost carriers are predominant and offer the most direct connections within the continent. And prices remain, often, dirt cheap.
Bro, I have seen Ryanair flights for €200. Yes, ur comment is correct, but it's not always true for certain routes.
I love ❤️ Spirit hopefully they can survive 🎉
Spirit needs a strategic CEO like Timothy Clark
The judge that blocked the deal should be disbarred and imprisoned for corruption.
I've been flying Spirit and avoiding American Airlines and the likes because Spirit's fleet is made of Airbuses. They have no 737s. And don't tell me that the 737 MAX has been fixed - it has not been fixed well enough to my taste.
LowCost is more for shorter flights. When I fly 2 hours or less minimal comfort is not as important as when I fly longer.
Spirit is needed, without them the other airlines will jack up their pricing. I hate flying with them, I pay a little extra to fly delta for the customer service, but I’ll always appreciate spirit
The only time I took spirit, I couldn’t get out the plane for one and half hours after we landed in LAX
I liked it a lot ! Even the Vegas stops to Chicago .
Spirit's staff often has little to no or no flying spirit 😂
Canada has monopolized its airspace, United States is about to.
spirit is great for flights from cali to vegas. Don't leave Spirit, i miss my $30-60 round trip tickets 😢
Not enough people are paying the "Storm avoidance" fees these days >:(
We have a white elephant here also. There are some ULCC airlines besides those mentioned in North America. They include.
Volaris (Mexico)
Flair (Canada)
Allegiant (USA)
And perhaps a few others. We need to watch them closely, and some of them are slowly growing in market share. I write this as an American in Arizona. I have flown on those airlines mentioned. They give pretty nice service.
I've booked with them 3 times and still have yet to fly with them. Every time i try, they cancel my flight😂
@
Nope.
It’s clear at booking.
soon you will get budget seats for premium prices, and that extra leg room seat will cost way more, people will complain and the cycle begins
I enjoyed flying on Spirit Airlines. It was way cost effective compared to Delta, united and AA
Spirit knew that the buyout with jetblue was unlikely to go through. They wanted the frontier merger. They've just been mismanaged.
I love spirit and never had any issues with them
The Greyhound customer base....that's what went wrong.
America sounds like it has a labor cost problem, starting with the CEO's.
Spirit is failing because of $100 bag fees at gate when your bag won't fit in that 2 small mis-measured bin! You can have only a backpack and they'll still charge u, if u don't pay it, they won't let u fly
Here's how to save the airline industry:
1) Offer your miles as reward points to video game developers
2) If players accomplish in-game goals they get rewarded with miles
3) Set game tournaments overseas where only gamers with enough miles can join.
4) Profit as you sell reward points to banks when players use their credit card and profit again when players reach in-game milestones.
Someone said Spirit Airlines are Greyhound buses with wings 🤣🤣🤣
Is this airline closed now?? Maybe it can grow again
I fly Spirit and I have no problem with flying them. I understand what they are about. They have better flights from Houston to Detroit for me.
Noooo - I Love SPIRIT !! IT GETS DISSED SO MUCH BUT I THINK ITS GREAT - ROCK BOTTOM PRICES & NO FRILLS - I MYSELF DON'T NEED FRILLS - IVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS MYSELF ??
They should enter cargo service like Airasia.
The rise of buy now pay later services has also contributed to spirit losing revenue. A lot of people are choosing the better airlines since they can pay over time.
Honestly I love spirit. I only fly in their big front seats though. Never had any issues.
I'll tell you what went wrong: I flew on one of their planes. Only time I've ever been on one and they declared bankruptcy.
The issue is the airlines making Economy WORSE and then upcharging stuff you used to get for free. Smaller and smaller spaces, etc
Spirit has been the butt end of every airline joke since I was young. Everyone knew it was a terrible airline. 😂
But you have to ask yourself: are the other airlines really any better? Flying in the U.S is overall a terrible experience. At least Spirit doesn’t try to hide it 😭
@@notforgotten3685and you pay less for the same experience.
It exists for people who can’t afford the more expensive airlines. Can’t complain about a Prius if it’s all you can afford.
I’d rather be on Spirit nonstop than have a connection in Chicago on an Embraer
Why do customers want points? Points restrict the choice.
Spirit ticket price is great, however make too many sacrificed by the time add up all other fee, it come out to be the same compare other airline.
