Thank you! And bottle openers are essential. 😂 Maybe because I was born in Tirol and Bavaria (good beer) and Italy (good wine) are so close, so I was raised with that… 😂

On one trip, I flew from country to country, and island to island. On my return trip, the agent took my teeny, tiny, embroidery scissors that I kept in my tiny first aid kit. Maddening.
I just had that happen to me on my 5th trip to Phuket. Tiny cutters with less than an inch blade which was part of a Muji sewing kit. I brought it on board so many times and that one agent had to find fault with it. So upsetting!
Zip loc bags are so useful - I use them for liquids (of course), snacks, leftovers in a restaurant, sorting small things like zip ties and a couple of safety pins, packing clothes that aren't quite dry yet, a first aid kit, and even instead of packing cubes to keep clothes sorted. :)
Some carry on traveller said that we can’t travel with metal knives even dinner knives-- you are so right to have plastic❤❤❤ I have both- inflatable cushion AND neck ring😂 - never know which one i feel like! I also use the small pillow (with a cover i made for it) between my knees to take pressure off my hips while sleeping at night during vacations. Watching again a year later!!! The sink stopper!!!! Genius!!!
Just loving your super practical, down to earth videos Maggi, they are the best that I have seen (and I have seen a LOT!) well done. Keep them coming. Wishing you many more subscribers, you deserve it. 😊
In many countries they sell disposable rain ponchos. One time outside a big mall in Thailand a lady was flogging them since it was raining. Talk about ingenuity! I would prefer having one of those with me, but then it doesn't rain often. If I were in a location where it rains off and on every day, I would rethink that.
Love the video, especially the tip about using the needle to get air out of packaging! As a side note, I'm Brazilian and slightly perplexed that you didn't manage to easily find ziploc bags. If you ask for them at a grocery store or drugstore you should be able to find it, if it's a big enough store. We also tend to have dedicated stores that sell disposable plastic stuff (cutlery, plates, etc). As well as stores that sell cheap homeware stuff (think ice trays, cheap tupperware, so on). It's something that's in a lot of people's homes, so if you didn't manage to find it, just ask any salesperson and they might be able to name a local shop that has them. Leaving this for any fellow travelers that might happen to read it :)
Thanks for the tips! 🤗 Good to know that for the next trip. Maybe part of the problem was that I was more in the tourist area so they had a very limited assortment…
Take a look at the Lumintop EDC01. It has a little difusor for ambient lighting and, no need to charge... because it runs on a AAA battery😊. And it is quite affordable!
Thanks for the suggestion! I personally prefer to have one to charge with USB-C. I am not a big fan of having to buy batteries when traveling because the packages are always way to big and then the leftover batteries are just dead weight for months. ;-)
you should give Loop earplugs a try! I’m also sensitive to noise, have very small ears, and am a side sleeper - so on airplanes or in hotel rooms i’d always either be uncomfortable with the noise, or be uncomfortable with standard foam earplugs. since trying loops, i’m a convert! they’re small silicone earplugs that don’t bother you when lying on your side, they have different earbud sizes so you can choose the best fit for you, they’re easy to wash (reusable and environmentally friendly!), and you can choose the noise reduction level by picking different models. i have a hardcore quiet pair that’s perfect for flights and noisy summer nights (in tents and cities both), and a pair that i wear to music concerts and cinema trips. do check them out! and of course, thank you for the video and all the tips 😊
Talking about earplugs... I also have small ear canals plus I hate the pressure from most earplugs, and I use Moldex Contours foam earplugs, they come in two sizes, I use the small one (model number 7403, SNR 35). They have a curved shape that reduces the pressure a lot. As a caveat, they are trickier to use because they need to be inserted so that the curve matches the narrowing at the entrance of the ear canal, otherwise they will not fit correctly and will not stay in place, nor they will provide a good noise insulation. When properly inserted they sit pretty much flush against my ear canal. This are some other models that may be worth a try: Howard Leight Quiet, SNR 28 Moldex Meteors Small size (Model 6630), SNR 28
Another great video! You have such useful ideas. I also use a pair of Fiskars scissors - mine are round tip for a child. They were cheap but are still sharp enough for my purposes. That is a very cool flashlight! I've kept a mini flashlight next to my bedside (at home and away) for years, but it uses a battery. A rechargeable one is a very practical solution. Keep making videos! Thank you!
Hello Maggie, I am a new follower of yours and I really identify with your frugal and practical travel style. My husband and I are retired travellers but we travel light cause luggage is heavy and cumbersome to move about so we keep it lite and useful. Almost all of your items were very useful and I appreciate your honest review of their cost and usefulness of a daily basis. Thank you for sharing your reviews , and happy travels
Earplugs for small ears. The only ones I can use for months on end are Happy Ears. I made a video too. I tried Loop. The ring for the outer ear was too big. It hurt. For others those are great.
As for USB adapters. I pack what we'd call patch cables in the old days. Very, very short cables. But multiple types. Just one cable isn't going to cut it. Last time I had an adapter for my Garmin watch, though. But that one was temperamental. So although I might bring it again, I would prefer a full size if I could.
Super nice video and cool stuff/gadgets 👍 Love your channel and hope your husband is doing better! As melhoras para o seu marido! Beijinhos para você e um abraço para ele!
Thank you for uploading! I had that corkscrew snatched in Milan once. Had it attached to my keys and they seemed to have known right away what it was. They took it away though I had a chance to drink Italian wine nonetheless. ;-)
I love all your tips! I used quite a few on my trip earlier this month. I love how everything is organized in pouches, that helped me out tremendously. I was camping so I had my rucksack of gear, then my small pack and personal item. I also love the matador soap pouches and found a soap/shampoo bar, which I cut in half to save space. Thank you for sharing!
For the flight itself I found that molle pouches are a great thing. In most cases you can just lock those molle strips under the food tray and have a good pocket for our essentials like powerbank, headphones, pocket book etc.
A Matador pocket blanket might be what you want instead of/along with the towel. They have 2 sizes and are more like fat rectangles instead of long rectangles.
I saw your toiletries video and bought the matador bag for soap. I looked for a bag to hold the soap, but found a netting bag at home. Some sewing and I have two bags for soap and shampoo that fit into one matador bag. Also, the soap bag doubles as a scrubber. Thank you so much for doing these videos.
Hi Marcey! Happy to hear that you find my videos helpful. :) Excellent idea with sewing the netting bag. And yes, I also use the soap bags as a scrubber. :)
Maggi, check your towel size first before cutting and resewing. In the amazon description it is approximately 48” by 24”. So cutting it in half and resewing will give you the exact same dimensions but now with a seam. I hope this makes sense to you. But loved the video. Thank you so much.
Hi Debra! Thanks for pointing that out! Thanks to that, I noticed that it looks like we have different sizes in Europe. The one I have is approx. 52” x 20” (132 x 53 cm). So it is longer but narrower than what they sell in the US. It’s a stupid shape, because I mainly want to use it to sit on it at the beach etc. and for that it’s almost too narrow and all this “unused” fabric from the length is useless on the sides. If I sew it up, it would be 40” x 26” (100 x 66 cm), so it would give me some more width to sit on. It’s really not much, but better than nothing. Should be enough so that part of my 🍑 is not in the sand. 😂
@@debragifford4926 So true!! I had no idea either. But I have to admit, I like the sizing the offer in the US more, that would solve my problem that I have with my current “scarf”-shaped towel.
Thanks Marie! Others pointed that as well. I am still learning, and currently I am still overwhelmed with all the random hisses and noises that pop up during my videos. 😅 But I promise to improve that in the future and get better (hopefully).
I am guessing that you may know this but you twist the earbuds in a spiral before you put them in your ears. Once they are in your ears they reform their shape.
I don‘t really have a travel wallet anymore, I find them too bulky. I use the small one I showed in the video to carry my id, a bank card and some cash because I tie it to my bra and then it‘s invisible. :)
Love your videos and waiting for it. Would like to know if there is one item for multiple purpose. Thank you for a video and your time and efforts. Have a nice trip.❤
Hi Yeruna! My main multipurpose item would be my ipads, because I use them for almost everything. ;-) But I have one more item that I just bought recently and added to my gear and use on my trip here in Spain, I think that’s fits the definition of multipurpose. But I am still testing it, to see if I can really recommend it.
I know no reason why they should not be allowed. The one I showed in that video are actually the ones handed out by the airplane during the meals and I kept them after I was done eating. :)
Hi. I'd like to know if you could do a follow up video for your 1 year skillshare revenues. After all this time the feedback has a lot of value ! Or you could share directly how much you've gained over this second year of skillshare, even though it's not as good as showing each month and the evolution. Thanks.
I was looking at the pillow earlier today in fact, but thinking more of a footrest on the plane. I am a fan of Sea to Summit also, though someone at my uni took my towel. My best friend where I live (I am an expat from the states) is from Rio. The flashlight was it inspired by Excessorize Me?
I never thought of using the pillow as a footrest… I will try that on my next flight. :) And the Flashlight I actually found by chance. I wanted to have a small flashlight for a while, but I didn’t wanted one with batteries and since I had optimized my tech to only travel with USB-Cs and Lightning and I wanted to have one that I can charge with that. And looks like there are not too many alternatives for these requirements. :)
There is an Oral B toothbrush that takes two regular batteries. It's not quite as strong as a regular rechargeable toothbrush, but it's strong enough. It's however a bit hit and miss finding it. I searched in Thailand one year when mine broke, and couldn't find it. I have bought it at Öob in Sweden and Normal in Norway. Residue will build up after a while, so if you take it apart to change the batteries (they last at least a month), it probably won't be possible to put it together again. This residue is a mix of pink slime and tooth paste. It will loosen if you add hydrogen peroxide, then wipe it away.
