Consider using a faraday bag for your camera, computer and electronics. Small boo-boo kit, antibiotic ointment, bandaids, chapstick, needle for possible splinters, small magnifying glass for splinters and electronic device inspection. Extra shoe laces. Great idea for the belt! A belt bag would add to that versatility. Good video 👍
Looking into faraday bags as we speak. Do you recommend them for their EMF shielding characteristics? Or because they're solid bags? Or both? And, yes, a small first-aid kit would add virtually no weight to the bag, but would add utility to my setup. Thanks for recommending that! I might just add one to my next packing list. Thanks for stopping by!
Hey man, just wanted to drop a note - nice job! First of all, you're much easier to watch than some others so Just Do It! Secondly, your gear choice is actually much more dynamic and realistic than many, many others. I'm actually getting tired of watching the same ol' brands (ahem Unbound Merino) and EDC/Minimalist packers so this was refreshing to say the least. Anyway, subscribed and will support you moving forward - keep pumping out videos!

This is great, I’m female and would switch out the deo for Mitchum rollon that takes us from shower. To shower I use it around bust and groin in hot areas, as well as underarms non sticky, and non sweat/ stink, and unisex, au velvet soap, for body, and laundry does everything, with bar shampoo/ conditioner, sunscreen , minerals foundation powder and brush, comb. ✅ done for the females watching, jeans and shirt with tshirt underneath and puffer jacket are dependable, I personally love RMWilliams pullon boots , they are so comfy, I like the look of those sandles they are unisex, I’d add a pair platform black sneakers( thick soles) for switch outs, if heading out. A nice light dressy top and wrap skirt, in case going out, but could also wear as sarong if going to beach, some areas frown upon not dressing for dinner, etc ✅ done thanks you for the ideas, good for shore leave where you need plain clothes, but don’t want to pack suitcases etc, esp for those who wear uniforms. I’d say your pack is unisex well done! Looking forward to more videos from you, I’m so frustrated with those females who pack so much unusable extra stuff then call it minimalist, as I also have cpap machine that takes space and weight, so that’s any spare space or second bag for overhead locker if flying,
Why is this your first TH-cam video? You have done an excellent job… I stayed through the end because you are “matter of fact” and made it clear , it’s your opinion. I’m preparing to walk a Camino and your video popped in the middle of 100’s… I love this pack- waterproof and light weight… yay to Camino Frances… excellent job. I will purchase a few items starting with the pack… returning what I’ve gotten so far. Thank you!
Thank you! Happy to hear that you like my style and found some gear for your upcoming trip on my list. (And, yes, the pack is incredible.) Have a great time on the Camino!
Thanks! The Roost is one of my favorite pieces of travel gear of all time. Big price tag considering its materials probably don't cost much, but entirely worth it!
Noel, I’ve been following you website on and off for years and just did a random search on TH-cam after reading an article on your site. Nice to see you’re here and hope you make more vids. You have given me great ideas I’ve actually used. Much appreciated.

Pretty similar to yours though. Just a lot of GarageGrownGear stuff & I lean more towards Hyperlite over Zpacks.
Solid travel setup, like the other commenters I couldn’t even tell it was your first video on the channel great stuff. I would’ve enjoyed seeing you actually pack up the bag, but understand the difficulties in recording that well, keep it coming!
Excellent video. Appreciate the detail and straight to the point-ness. And that you literally went through every single item, where they go, how they’re packed, and the links to them! Awesome @thepackablelife

My advice is to just throw a video out into the universe and see how it does. Mine seems to be doing well, but I think it helps that I have a travel/backpacking blog that I can share it on.
@@thepackablelife it’s a 25L packable backpack from "Nanwei". A $15-$20 usd backpack but I love it, I have used it for 3 weeks trips to Brazil and Peru, Planning to update it to the 30L travel backpack from Peak Design, also fits under the seat
Excellent video - I have looked at many ultra lite / minimalist travel videos and really enjoyed yours - both style and content. Two items that I have found useful are the inclusion of a small nylon bag that packs to nothing 1" x 1"x 1"but is useful if out and about and need a shopping bag to put a couple of temporary items, in particularly food on the go that you would rather not have in your main bag. Also I travel with a 'memo bottle' as I prefer the form factor over a round water bottle - worth every penny - and helps keep overall pack size small for our inter european personal bag only flights.
Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it, and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed my packing list. I've definitely traveled with a packable grocery-style bag before, but came to realize that my Zpacks backpack works perfectly for trips to the grocery store. Looking into memo bottles now; always eager to nerd out over new gear.
I enjoyed your video, make more. I would have loved to see how you got all your gear into your pack. I'm working on one bag travel, not quite there yet, but working on it. Keep sharing!
great sharing. your suggestion is really base on your experience! not typical edc suggesttion others youtubers always suggest. hell expensive. i love that. u got a new subcribers. looking foward to watch your new videos.
Hmmmmmm, maybe I can do a review video of the Zpacks pack. It ain't the prettiest pack in the world, but it's perfect for minimalist travel. Thanks for commenting 🙂
I'm so glad you decided to push past the shyness and post this! I have a quick question - what do you prefer to use as a plug adapter when you travel internationally?
Thanks so much, and great question. I use this adapter for international travel: www.aukey.com/products/aukey-universal-qc-pd3-0-travel-plug-adapter-power-converter-with-4-ports
I think Lems and one or two others make a barefoot Chelsea-style boot, could be something to look into if find yourself leaning more towards the minimalist side of footwear. Great video!
I've had my eye on those Lems Chelsea boots for a while, but I love my Blunnies so much that I've never pulled the trigger. Maybe I'll reach out to them and see if they have an extra pair or two lying around...
Good video. Thank you for showing everyone your set up. Though I disagree with many of your choices for me, for a videographer or a remote tech worker I understand your choices and I am glad they work for you. I travel to Europe and with the new EU laws would like to cut down from a 40L bag to a 18L bag and pockets. Luckily, I do not need as much Tech as some people.
Fair enough! Yeah, it'd be tough to fit everything I need in an 18L bag, but if I didn't need camera gear and traveled with an iPad instead of a laptop, I think everything would fit quite well. What bag do you have your eye on for EU travel?
I was looking at hiking packs as wanted a lite weight pack and didn’t think any matched with either being slightly too small/big plus looking like way too flashy sporty. Thanks for sharing your pack! I’ve seen a couple zpacks here in Canada thou this looks solid like a fancy jansport which was considering. Hmm maybe I chose wrong thou didn’t spend much. Liked the Eastpak I’ve used thou 32l so wanted to go more minial as one side was empty anyway. Hmmm lol I really like the micro wally by Distil Union it’s similar in a really nice looking leather so will look better or feel better while serving the same as you have maybe even better Anywho thanks✌🏽
Ps ‘Jon Gadget’ TH-camr has I believe the same tripod setup as you except he has a telescopic pole that can screw into the lil tri base & screw the adapter/camera at top…looked awesome minimal setup. Really liking your video! And damn gonna see about that bag 300g is awesome a third of pack I recently got to try out that’s 28l tomtoc as affordable without being flashy nor too heavy
Thanks for all of the feedback! I'll definitely check out Jon Gadget's channel to see his tripod setup. And, yes, the Zpacks pack I have is as light as they come! And it's waterproof and super comfortable. It's expensive, sure, but worth it in my opinion because there really isn't anything that compares to it on the market.
I agree with the others in that you did a great job! Maybe you could do a follow up, how on earth you packed all of that into the backpack. We have to believe you, that it all fit, but as they say,- seeing is believing :-) BTW, there is another fabric that is "antistink" and that is wood. Check out the brand called Wijld. Cheers, Frank
I'm definitely considering a "How I pack my gear" video. (You can see me unpacking my backpack early on in the video to get a vague idea of how everything fits, btw.)
I was thinking I should have spent more time showing everyone exactly how I pack the bag... I'm making a new gear video early in 2025, so I'll definitely show ya'll how everything fits then.
Great question! What country are you traveling from and what airline are you flying with? Does your airline actually weigh personal item bags before letting you board? The reason I ask is that I've never had an airline weigh my personal item bag before letting me board, and I've only been asked to measure my bag on a few occasions. That said, if I had to leave a few items behind to trim down to 15 pounds, I'd leave my boots behind and wear my shoes that I normally stash in the bag. I'd also leave my camera and all of its accessories behind, as well as my second pair of pants. I think that would put me down to about 15 pounds!
Good evening ! new subsriber (70 yr old lady) from Los Angeles, California . It’s a great video. I’m traveling to Asia carrying a personal bag (backpack) only. I will be mailing most of my stuff 3 months in advance. What is the best backpack (size) I will use as a personal bag ? 20 liters? I’m minimalist too. Thank you .
I think you can go up to a 25-liter bag without any issues! The Zpacks bag I recommend in this video is 25 liters and fits perfectly in the personal item bins at the airport.
@@thepackablelife Thank you for your advice. Where can I order the Zpacks bag? Does Zpacks bag has 20 L in case I will be carrying small gadgets including phone, medicine, id, credit card, cash, a pair of pants , 2 blouses and incontinence essentials only? I have several backpacks with different sizes but I like what you recommended. Thank you again. By the way, I have severe back problem too!
As a minimalist one bager you bring 3 pairs of shoes? Unheard of lol I go with boots on feet and white shoes inside. I will buy cheap sandals then donate them at the end if I feel the showers I’m at warrant them.
I don't bring three pairs of shoes... I wear boots and pack minimalist shoes like you do. And I don't bring my minimalist sandals on every trip, though they'll always come along if I'm staying in a hostel, going to the beach, or plan on frequenting gyms/pools/saunas/etc.
Good question! I've only ever had my personal item bag weighed once, and it was in Europe. Can't remember the airline. All I needed to do was take my laptop and water bottle out beforehand, hand them to my travel buddy, weigh my bag, and get approval. To this date, I've never had any issues with my personal item bag being too big or too heavy.
So many techie versions of minimalist means dressing like a little boy - - in (ultra expensive ) T-shirts, jeans, and sandals. Also interesting that probably more than half the weight of this pack comes from electronics..
I actually had a third-party battery expand and get stuck in an old Olympus camera. You think I'd learn! I've recently upgraded to the X-T4, and will buy a couple of Fuji batteries as backups. No more cheap Amazon knockoffs. I'll be sure to mention this in my next video where I mention the camera/batteries.
Will do. I definitely know that I need to include focused shots on the gear and definitely some B roll. This was my first video, so it goes without saying that I've got a lot to learn.
Almost every item listed here is very high end. It would cost you a few grand to follow all these suggestions. Guy must be dong all right financially. Pretty much out of my league.
You're right, my setup is definitely on the higher end and many of the items might break the bank for budget travelers. I've been pondering making a "Budget Travel Gear" video for my readers/viewers who can't afford my setup.
@@thepackablelife Well, let me qualify my observation. It looks like you do a lot of traveling professionally, so I get it; if you're a "professional traveler" you need professional everything: gear, clothing, etc. As a working musician, I play a high end, top of the line brass instrument. If I were just a beginner or "intermediate" player spending money on a high end instrument wouldn't be worth it. But, my guess is that most of the people watching this vid or not going to be "professional travelers". So yes, a budget gear vid would be helpful; thanks for considering it. That said, I'm impressed with the gear you describe in this video.
@@MrRezillo Thanks for the great feedback, I really appreciate it. Recommending high end gear that isn't super approachable to much of my audience has always been a concern of mine, but I also don't want to be disingenuous and recommend products that I have little to no experience with just because they're more affordable. I've been brainstorming ways to approach my next video, so I appreciate your feedback; it'll help guide the process. Cheers!
@@thepackablelife Part of my post got deleted some how. I just wanted to mention: I'm a semi-professional musician. I play a professional level instrument (trumpet) that costs a lot more than a beginner or intermediate model, because I "outgrew" those models. So, I understand that if you're a professional who travels a lot, you need to have the best gear, not just your equipment but everything you pack. People who don't travel much won't need that level of gear. And yes, I appreciate your integrity in not recommending cheaper items you haven't used personally. Okay, I've belabored the point enough! Looking forward to watching your other videos.
For what I do (full-time blogger with a professional camera setup), I'd say this packing list is fairly minimalist. If I weren't a blogger/TH-camr, I'd probably leave the camera gear at home and would consider taking an iPad instead of a laptop. I've also gone back and forth between only wearing one pair of shoes instead of the boots/shoes combo, so if I can ever find a pair of do-it-all shoes that I love, I could significantly lighten up my back by wearing the shoes and leaving the boots behind.
@@thepackablelife Thanks for responding. I'm sure you have better to do, I appreciate. Now, why did I say it's not minimalist? You carry things that you don't need if you are to go minimalist. For example, you don't need a laptop case, especially when you have a proper travel bag. With a laptop like a Macbook, you don't need a stand, nor a separate keyboard, let alone a mouse in addition to the built-in trackback (even for work. I'm on my computer 12 hour a day, and can't travel without it, I write papers, prepare lectures and conferences, and I've never need a separate keyboard and mouse. At the office or home, I like using those stuff for comfort, but not on the road, especially for a minimalist experience). You don't need a razor+clippers (a more minimalist option is to bring a device like Philipps' One Blade to shave and groom your hair and hairs). Also too many pouches/bags in your toiletries bag .. it seems you really like Zpack's little stuff ;) Why a JBL speaker? Why a leather case for your passport that is heavy (heavier than other options) and really carries nothing but your passport. Once again, some cool stuff in your video, but it's not a minimalist packing list. Now I'm looking forward to your next minimalist list ;)

Fair enough! Yeah, it'd be tough to fit everything I need in an 18L bag, but if I didn't need camera gear and traveled with an iPad instead of a laptop, I think everything would fit quite well. What bag do you have your eye on for EU travel?
Nice video! Really appreciate the tips. Very helpful!
Glad you found the video helpful! Another one in the works.
You could put your keys in an organizer (I use one from eBay - identical to Ridge /Shield).
You're the second person that has told me this, so I should probably look into it! Thanks for the suggestion.
Good video. I watched to the very end and I never do that. keep making more. rod
Thanks, Rod! Got another one in the works.
Great video! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job!
Thank you!
You should definitely look into a key organizer.
Will do. Any in particular that you recommend? Any that hold key fobs?
I was looking at hiking packs as wanted a lite weight pack and didn’t think any matched with either being slightly too small/big plus looking like way too flashy sporty.
Thanks for sharing your pack! I’ve seen a couple zpacks here in Canada thou this looks solid like a fancy jansport which was considering.
Hmm maybe I chose wrong thou didn’t spend much. Liked the Eastpak I’ve used thou 32l so wanted to go more minial as one side was empty anyway. Hmmm lol
I really like the micro wally by Distil Union it’s similar in a really nice looking leather so will look better or feel better while serving the same as you have maybe even better
Anywho thanks✌🏽
Great video
Thank you 🙏
I agree with the others in that you did a great job!
You're a great speaker. Professional video and good info. Not sure about the socks though, the price put me right off 🙂
Thanks! And, yes, I understand that paying $20 for socks is a bit steep, but Darn Tough will send you a new pair of socks for free if yours wear out.
great video, can you also show how you’re packing everything into your backpack? it’s helpful to visualize it
I was thinking I should have spent more time showing everyone exactly how I pack the bag... I'm making a new gear video early in 2025, so I'll definitely show ya'll how everything fits then.
I love Tom bihn ❤
Me too. Best in the business. I have since replaced my Bagger ULTRA 25 with the TOM BIHN Techonaut 30... best one-bag travel backpack ever.
Nice video. Would love to know how much that bag weighs with everything in it.
Thanks.
Fully packed with winter gear is 19.0 pounds
Hope too c more
More videos in the works!
Kudos for putting timestamp on every item.
Happy to do it
my airline only allows 15 lbs - what would you take out if you had to meet those weight guidelines?
How do you deal with airlines that only allow 15lbs (7kg) of carry-on luggage?
Good question! I've only ever had my personal item bag weighed once, and it was in Europe. Can't remember the airline. All I needed to do was take my laptop and water bottle out beforehand, hand them to my travel buddy, weigh my bag, and get approval. To this date, I've never had any issues with my personal item bag being too big or too heavy.
You need to wear the sunglasses in every video.
Sounds good! 😎
look into mulberry silk boxer briefs, they don't smell at all
I'll definitely check them out. How durable are they?
@@thepackablelife not too durable sadly
how much the total?
Weight or cost?
If you love the adventure, the cost is just a number
So many techie versions of minimalist means dressing like a little boy - - in (ultra expensive ) T-shirts, jeans, and sandals. Also interesting that probably more than half the weight of this pack comes from electronics..
I feel like a big boy when I travel, so that's all that matters
I’m personally nervous about using third-party batteries for a camera.
Looks heavy to be carried in cabin luggage, has laptop so cannot put in check in luggage
My setup is definitely not too heavy to carry onto an airplane. I've done so dozens of times.
Next time, focus the camera on the bag when you unpack versus having a talking head video so it is more compelling to watch
Will do. I definitely know that I need to include focused shots on the gear and definitely some B roll. This was my first video, so it goes without saying that I've got a lot to learn.
Ur wallets falling apart because you didn’t buy a Ridge lol.
Fair enough, haha. I've since moved on from that terrible wallet to the Slimfold Soft Shell Micro.
Cool stuff. But minimalist? Nope.
Great job 👏
Thanks!
