    Hey I just beat this game for the first time two days ago and I loved it! The atmosphere, beautiful art direction, the fluid and fun combat, the thoughtful puzzles, the epic soundtrack and boss fights...I can go on and on. It can be frustrating, but the world is so engrossing that I could not pull myself away from it. I just needed to get that much closer to the end and finally completing this adventure! Now on to Metroid Prime 2!!

      "Perfect pacing" the pacing is faaaar from perfect specially when you have to get the damn chozo artifacts. It slows the game down to a crawl...

    the game is all about exploring.
    the combat is secondary to the fine art of geometric examinations.
    the fact that every single unit of unique Intellectual property was thought of carefully and crafted with artistic creativity and inspired outlook on science fiction biochemistry that is detailed every step of the way.
    AND YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO READ.
    the best part is that its entirely cosmetic.
    the real action is what draws us in and defines the commerce of this wonderful masterpiece but the implementation of complete OCD levels of identity is what puts it and its sequels over the top.

    It's surpsiring that even after 17 years later this game not only still looks really good, it's still has that replayability value that never feels boring, an amazing soundtrack and the scanning mechanic that makes researching enemies fun but barely any game recaptured the magic and wonder of this game. Still my favourite game of all time

    100% agree. My favourite Metroid. And the first Metroid game I played. I completely understand your point about giving up so many times. Story time below:
    I remember the first time I fought the Omega Pirate. He felt like a brick wall. My family didn't have internet at the time, and non of my other friends had a game cube. I was completely stuck. I got so mad with that boss after throwing myself against it too many times, that I literally went and sold the game to a second hand store. It was a year or two later while playing Metriod Prime 2, that a similar thing occurred fighting the Spider Guardian. Instead of also selling MP2, I just stopping playing it for a little while. I got to thinking about the fact that I never beat Omega Pirate either and went back to the shop I'd sold it to originally and picked up a copy of Prime 1 again. I luckily never deleted my save data, so I could pick up the game right where I left it. And with a renewed sense of determination I beat the boss, and then went on the beat the game. And then came back to MP2 and beat that game too! And let me tell ya, the sense of back-to-back accomplishment and pride of doing that is something that no other game has made me feel since.
    Metroid Prime 3 was a massively disappointing, to me. I never got on well with motion controls and the story felt... misplaced. I'm extremely nervous about the announcement of MP4.

    Metroid Prime, damn I feel old.
    I remember my first playthrough of this game. Me and a good friend of mine got this game on the same day. And we would spend countless nights playing our respective copy of this game in the evening at the same time while using our phones as substitution for Skype etc. Giving hints to each other when we found something. Good times...
    While I never died to an enemy in this game (not even on my first playthrough), I would say that the challenge factor of the game is still right on the money. Not too hard for newcomers but it gives you enough to do even if you were experienced with FPS and Metroid beforehand. Mix of combat, exploration and puzzle solving was executed really well. The artdesign is honestly still beautiful to this day and the soundtrack as well as the sounddesign are downright timeless. Also I really love how the structure of the whole world was handled. At first I thought that each backtrack would be agonising...but each track can be done pretty fast thanks to clever shortcuts / use of the elevators with the Magmoor Caverns. Overall a great game that I still love to play to this day.
    Metroid Prime 2 on the other hand... let's just say I am looking forward to what you'll have to say about this one. While I did enjoy some things it brought to the table, I never finished it (stopped one part before from the finale) and I think that will never change. [spoilers: traversing / having to backtrack in the world of Metroid Prime 2 is soooooo bad. No good connection between many areas thanks to the light and dark world design as well as these stupid mechanic worms / blockades...].

    • @hellothere5437

      I try to speedrun Metroid Prime 2. To put it brief, the Gamecube version is superior for movement around the first two Prime games. It feels better transversing the environment with the LR Config and some movement options are absolutely broken. The Wii version, however, trades the movement for precise controls and handling where it suddenly makes the actual weapons broken, like with using the Wavebeam or a Super Missile from an area an enemy can't see you using the lock-on. You can also do stuff like aim where multiple enemies will be hit at one time. The Wii version makes you feel much more powerful. In the end, both control schemes make you feel pretty much the same way.
      I use Gamecube for speedrunning though. The Wii version of Metroid Prime 1 has a small, but growing community and if I had a Wii De Abosu copy of Metroid Prime I will definitely speedrun it.

    Only thing that bugged me about Prime was the monster spawns. When you backtrack 2-3 rooms all the monsters reset including mini bosses. It'd help immersion and prevent cheap tactics if they switched around the spawn points or put some rng in them, since backtracking's core to metroidvania

    If Zelda didn't exist Metroid Prime would be my favorite game ever. I absolutely love exploring every nook and cranny of Tallon IV, even after 6 or 7 replays I always seem to find something new in this world that STILL looks gorgeous after 17 years. I often wonder why people place such an emphasis on gigantic overworlds filled with copy-paste scenery that you'll forget about as soon as you leave the area, when tightly-knit and heavily-backtracked worlds like Tallon IV and Lordran are so much more memorable.

    I hope when Nintendo forced the Prime team to restart the entire Prime 4 project to "go back to form" they meant going back to the first Prime. Echoes and Corruption just arent the same, way too linear and defeats the very purpose of what makes a Metroid game a Meroid game.

    • @TheLegendofHaloid

    • @hellothere5437
      @hellothere5437 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am a person who likes Echoes more. It seems linear until you figure out you can go to Sanctuary after you get the Light/Dark beams or just go to another temple before you beat one due to scanning quirks. You can (without any speedrunning tricks) get Seeker Missiles and Super Missiles before the 1st major boss. (Edit: Early Gravity Boost is an (easy) speedrun trick.)
      Prime 3 is pretty damn fun and has interesting puzzles, even though it doesn't classify as a Metroid game.

    • @WaveOfDestiny
      @WaveOfDestiny 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prime 3 may be linear at first, but when you get the spider ball, its so goddamn satisfying to backtrack everything. Just for that part it is clearly a metroid game.

    • @tiaangerber4248
      @tiaangerber4248 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaveOfDestiny Yeah I know, its that "linear at first" part that just bugs me a bit. I also really like the improvements that Echoes and Corruption added (and if we can even just get a modern remake of the 1st Prime that would be awesome) but at the same time if you rely on tricks that you wont know the first time around or halfway through the game to get non-linearity out of the game, it just isnt the same as a classic Metroid and thats why the first Prime is so special for me its literally an FPS Metroid game.

Admittedly when I first started playing it I thought it was a decent game, but not nearly as great as others made it out to be. Yet the more i played the more I realized how great this game actually was, the music the atmosphere and the gameplay are all perfectly crafted and well executed. Beautiful details in ways I had never seen in any game before, Star Fox adventures was nowhere close the the level of this. Then the music, my lord the music for Metroid Prime 1, 2 and 3 is so amazing that to this day I still listen to many of the songs. I am on pins and needles awaiting the fourth Prime, both afraid and excited, really hoping that I do not over hype it for myself. I truly appreciate that they are being very quiet about details, games give up way too much about themselves before they're even released anymore.

      I don't know if I would say Prime 2 is better than Prime 1. Beccause honestly, that depends own your own opinion. But I can say Prime 2 is just as good as the first Prime game. Both games have there share of gameplay on how you prefer. It's kinda like comparing Mega Man X to Mega Man X2. One like this better than the other. While others likes the other one better than others. Now I do like X1 a little bit more than X2 because of an better Upgrade & Item invertory placements with less backtracking than what X2 did. But I still love X2 for what it tries to do & works very well. Same with Prime 1 & Prime 2. I prefer Prime 1 over Prime 2 because of it's balance of level platforming designs, puzzling & exploration with better variety, aesthetics & atmosphere. And I had more fun in Prime 1 than Prime 2. But I still love Prime 2 for what it tries to do & I can really appreciate it. Not to mentioned that I love Prime 1's & Prime 2's soundtrack. There both so good. Whether you think is better than the other or not, they're still amazing games regardless. Same with Prime 3.

  • @XxsuperstudlyxX

    This is the best review I've ever seen of this game. You nailed literally every point of what makes Metroid Prime so amazing and even compared it to Dark Souls, which is a really good comparison in terms of the tough first playthrough and easy breezy reruns. The music is the best of all games I've played and I always remember almost everything when I return, not because the game is easy to remember by default but because it was just so good its HARD to forget.

    I think I remember reading somewhere that one of the original directors of Prime 1 thought it was crap and didn't like it all that much. I think a lot of game designers underestimate peoples desire for pure escapism. For what Metroid Prime lacked in other departments it made up for in atmosphere. Something about being alone in a hostile alien world that attracts me to the series not so much that it has stellar or revolutionary game mechanics.

    If you want to understand what "immersive" means when talking about video games, Metroid Prime is, in my opinion, the blue print. A game that is waaaay ahead of it's time, even more so than the most groundbreaking of today's games. Quite simply one of the best games ever.

    I rarely found the game to be that hard. I also think your movement through the environments can be rather slow, and the backtracking can be more tedious than in the 2D games. But it’s a small issue. I’d consider this, Dark Souls and REmake to have the best 3D worlds in gaming.

  • @matt4193
    @matt4193 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah I'd say "tight" is appropriate for Metroid Prime's gameplay loop. Even with the hint system activated by default it does not fall back to outright tell the player that X item solves that problem. I feel like the game does respect the player and expects it to understand the world rules and roll with it. Over time my perspective about the Chozo Artifact hunt shifted a little, now I understand it was to add play time to a somewhat short game by today's standards. Prime was not a tried-and-true formula when in development and it shows in some decisions Retro took. I still love it to death, though, both Prime and it's sequel. The Wii version is kinda too different and the game was not meant to be played with a funky pointer...

    For how much the game gets right, it's still let down by the basic gameplay flow where the overreliance on charge shots, odd backtracking routes, and having to tank damage from rooms just for easy traversal sours the experience the more you play.

    Metroid prime difficult? You can barely die in this game even if you don't understand the dodge dash and stuff, minus some bosses. The game gives you health when you're about to die so you can keep going, on purpose. At least you should be able to grab most energy tanks along the way.

    Well for a modern gamer the controls in this game feel janky and it's all because of Halo on the Xbox I mean I got used to the controls really quicky when first playing this game like March 2019 like Idk how I got the hang of it really quicky also I prefer playing this game on the GameCube not saying that the Trilogy is bad I mean I really like the fact that you can aim on the Wii version but the main reason why I got the GC versions of Prime 1 and 2 is because of the Title screens
