You guys aren't getting enough love on here. Your videos have helped my CB450 project immensely, so thank you!

Great video. Thank you. I am rebuidling the triple tree and only could afford to clean the old bearings and cases. I was hoping to find a video on how to put greass on them and put the back together without having all the bearings fall or roll around. I'm thnking with enough grease they'll hold in place on the case long enough to be put back in place. Lets. hope.

I recently installed a set of "All Balls" tapered bearings in my SR500 Yamaha
The previous owner had already replaced the original bearings with tapered bearings and the outer race of the lower tapered bearing that I now needed to remove from the frame had a larger inside diameter than the original bearing would've had and so there was no lip to drift (strike) the bearing out
This made it near impossible to remove the lower bearing race, I was going to weld a washer to the bottom of the bearing race but didn't for fear of badly damaging the bearing's seat in the frame
I ended up grinding a thin screwdriver's blade to a sharp edge and bent it an inch or so from the tip of it's blade and managed to hammer the sharpened tip of the screwdriver between the bearing's race and it's seat in the frame and moved it enough to allow a washer to fit in between the bearing and seat and I was then able to drift this washer from above and by working the washer around the bearing I managed to remove it
This caused slight damage to the seat but I was able to correct it
The lower "All Balls" bearing I refitted has the same problem as the bearing I removed, no lip for future removal
Another problem is these tapered bearings are apparently eight to ten millimetres taller than the height of the original bearings and this caused other problems with the way the top clamp sits relative to the steering stem
After I managed to remove the tapered bearings fitted by the previous owner I should've thrown away both the old set and the new "All Balls" sets of tapered bearings and refitted a set of original races and ball bearings

Looking to do an inverted fork front end swap on my bike which has ball bearings so I’ll see if the races for whatever front end I get will fit will be better than trying to modify the frame

Does Common Motor support the CB500 Four, in addition to the CB550 Four?

Just for reference to anyone tackling this project in the future, what size diameter of C Spanner are you using/came standard in the factory tool kit?
Even the spanner I used from the factory tool kit I found on eBay didn’t have any clear measurements on it.
I suppose opting for an adjustable one would cut out on a lot of the guess work, but even then I burned through the better part of a Saturday trying to track one down at my local tool suppliers.

we don't currently sell triple trees. Look for a good quality used one on eBay maybe would be my recommendation.

But why don,'t use puller to pull the tree race, I am from Dhule, Maharashtra, India

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Most people do not have a puller in their tool box. However punch and hammer is very common.

Single most important upgrade you can do to a cb. Or any old bike with those godawful loose ball bearings.

The stock head bearings are categorically bad.
