Counterpoint: With the constant changes in the adaptation, Glenn felt far more important to the show’s events as he felt like the main character under Rick and Carl. He became more than “the pizza kid,” and felt like Rick’s successor in the same vain as Maggie in the comics (seeing as Carl isn’t supposed to end up like his father). As for what the show should have done, I honestly think Maggie should’ve been killed (HBO did this sort of thing in GOT) and give Glenn that motivation for revenge. With the show doing that arc with Daryl in Seasons 8 and 9A, it was a massive 180 of his Season 7 arc which in all honesty was pretty decent. As for that push-pull with Negan, that’s something we still could’ve gotten with Daryl or Carl or Rick or even Beth if she made it that long. However Maggie’s hatred of Negan was a plot point that simply went on too long and most people are tired of it as the character has no closure like in the comics with marrying Dante. As for Glenn, it would be cool had he lived that he began leading Hilltop as with Rick not killing Negan, he chose to look after its people in an attempt to move forward from what happened.
I respect your opinion but I don’t think Negan choosing Maggie makes any kind of sense at all. Abraham clearly looked the strongest so that makes sense and Glenn is the one who will defy Negan if his family is in danger. What would be the use of killing a pregnant woman who clearly is the weakest one in the lineup? Negan would never get spared in a million years if he tried hurting Maggie and his unborn child. Glenn dying is just something that had to happen. Daryl would’ve been a good replacement but I think they made the right decision.
@@HenzoW-cf3mh That’s another thing. Abraham either should’ve gotten his comic death or not be at the line up. Either way he should not have been there period. Imagine if the first time we meet Dwight is when he puts a bolt in Abraham’s head? That would’ve been so badass.
@@gfilmer7150 Abraham telling Negan “suck my nuts” just made that death feel so fitting. But I do think that someone else should have got shot in the eye by Dwight. I don’t like how they introduced Dwight in the show, they should’ve just kept it the same as the comics. Someone slightly more capable like Heath should’ve got killed by Dwight instead of Denise who was their only doctor at the time. @@HenzoW-cf3mh Also how funny would it be if he had the same get up as Daryl when we first see him. It’d be like King of The Hill when Hank went to Japan or Batman first seeing The Arkham Knight.

I love Glenn but his death worked being the heart of the show clinging to his humanity the most out of everyone giving it all the more emotional pay out. No one likes seeing their favorite character die but when it's written well it at least gives it meaning
I don't understand anyone that was so disturbed by the Glen's death and stopped watching when they kept watching after seeing Noah's face ripped apart a few episodes earlier.
Definitely in the comics Glenn’s death is needed maybe even more so as they actually develop maggies character after the death and have her move on with Dante
the only issue i have is when Daryl escaped they didn't show him bashing fat joey's skull in like they did with Glenn but i do like your idea of reversing the order even though the reason for killing Abraham was because he was the most imposing
@@HoboDucks it was because of the complaints that they got but they could've shown something but if they did it the same that might've made up for his death because it happened to someone on the other side too
As a true Walking Dead Die Hard the reason I believe people stopped watching wasn’t Glenn’s death. The dragging out of things is. The episode following that was absolutely awful. Now I know people say seasons 7 and 8 were really bad but rewatching them with streaming is much better because in real time they would have 4-5 storylines and it would take weeks to get back to certain stories and even months at some points. But now as us diehards that are still here. I must say those fans 7 years ago must have saw the future. Regardless how bad certain aspects were or even the spin-offs. We all stayed and waited YEARs to find out what happened to Rick. They even created a secretive advanced military unit that did experiments and was teased throughout all these spin-off only for it to all be answered and rushed in 6 episodes. Gimple still thinks he’s all suspenseful with vague answers. Soon there won’t be a fanbase. The fanbase expected a bigger world building with car connections to a overall universe. What we got basically are anthology show with two major characters which we know can’t die. Many are dropping off and I think the only reason people are still in is for super fast walkers that was teased four years ago and now even that still hasn’t happened yet and it’s completely different then what they first showed.
If you don’t want a spoil for Darryl episode 1 of season 2 skip this. But the fanbase was promised a universe building and some event bringing everything back together for the true end. So 22-24 years into the apocalypse Carol goes looking for Darryl who’s in FRANCE BTW but I’ll throw them a bone on how she found out but even that’s kinda unbelievable. But she just happens to be driving and some guy is flying his “plane” for fun. He just happens to have a plane in his garage. Now wouldn’t have been much better if after she finds out she radios home explains what happens and Rick through his connection from the only society in the post apocalypse era to assign Carol a rescue team? Then Carol can assist Rick stay home since he just got home and Carol goes even if Ricks off screen due to the actors unavailability. They even can make one of the members of the rescue team a damn spy for the bad guy from Ricks show. Cause even though they killed the “whole bad unit in a day” the other 248000 members are all just jolly old fellows. But he did mention he said spies all over the world in every known community. So what do ya know one the rescue team members is a spy that contacts the main villain in the Darryl show creating the damn linkup that fans been speculating for over two years now. Instead of everything just working out by “chance” Shane was wrong in season 2 of the Walking Dead. Carol had better chance finding Darryl by flying to Paris then the group did finding Sophia
In terms of how they did his death, it was still good imo. It was heartbreaking that such a nice character can get bludgeoned in such a nasty way but that’s what made it that more well done. Bitter as hell but it worked. I actually in reflection don’t mind Daryl punching Negan and that causing his death bc his character needed that guilt of causing one of his best friends to die in such a gruesome manner. The show should’ve done better in terms of Maggie confronting him on this as she seems to be more mad at Rick than Daryl. The sharpness of his death worked well. Should’ve been done in the season finale.
@@HoboDucks only 1 small scene of them two talking about Glenn wasn’t good enough. He should’ve been pouring his heart out to Maggie saying that he should’ve been the one killed instead and then Maggie forgives him instead of him acting stupid then Maggie forgiving him. They really ruined Daryl in those seasons by making him do such stupid things. The punch I do understand bc Negan was laughing right in front of Rosita’s face but every other stupid thing he did was just out of character.
I think Glen should've died in 'Thank you' and instead Nicholas Survives. Glen dies because of his cowardice and Nicholas wrought with guilt mans up and tries to not let his memory die. He could take Carl's death instead as the 'No one has to Die' as Glen felt the same about him.
Glenn’s death isn’t what killed this “universe” Bad writing here and there is one thing. But they don’t have the timelines right. I get with Gear because it was supposed be something it wasn’t. But why is Dead City so far ahead of the Darryl show and especially Ricks. I could have seen that ahead since he was gone and unable to escape for years but yet Michonne shows up and in one episode they blew over 2000 special service soldiers. Yea that was a great way to end that series. Your fanbase for five years waited and it was great for the first five episodes yea but that should have been all about CRM buildup and Michionnes journey. Then them finding each other her sneaking in then cliffhanger for next year
I think it was good that both went out in this scene. It made perfect sense why those two were selected. It would be stupid if Negan didn’t choose to bat the strongest dude in the lineup. Abraham went out like a badass despite how brutal it was and the show did him more justice than the comics so I was fine with it. Glenn’s death just makes sense to me. Him or Daryl would literally be the only 2nd person to kill and Glenn was a good pick. More tragic knowing he doesn’t see his child, Maggie runs Hilltop but she still suffers with the loss of her family and Herschel Jr being her only family left. I don’t think it was a mistake but I think it shouldn’t have been left as a cliffhanger for the next season. Killed them in the season finale then we have to try bare the aftermath of it all.
@@HenzoW-cf3mh1and 1 would have been fine. Not to mention how they even screwed up with whoever dying was blinded folded. And they ended with that character seeing black. Abraham as he wasn’t as a main character was the reason why they killed him first so you didn’t expect them to kill glen! They made the shock factor perfect in my eyes! Heart breaking but what a scene in history!
I largely agree with your view point about Glenn.
