    IMPORTANT - if you use this method and leave both the new objects in the model, you'll have two solids in the same tube which will DOUBLE the mass of the tube, which affects the weight calcs of the final assembly. If you're bothered about this, either delete the second solid after you're done, or do a SAVE AS on the tube beforehand and do all this on a copied version of the file. Cheers to Joshua in the comments for pointing this out, I just got so wrapped up in getting around the K factor issue I never considered this which is unusual for me!

      I would recommend doing a derived part from the tube, then apply the process from the video but only keep the flattened part.
      So when you do a drawing you add the needed cut template (however you like), which will keep updating changes from the frame but without adding mass.

      While watching, I got concerned with this problem, too. Could you make a follow-up video that shows how to do what MrTigerpirro said?

      @@MrTigerpirro I have used this method a lot, derived sheetmetal part as a surface, thicken outwards 0.1mm slice & flatten. works great.

    • @MrTigerpirro
      @MrTigerpirro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Uthael_Kileanea all you do is make a derived part based on the tube. Then in the drawing you use that sheet metal flat pattern as the guide for the workshop.
      If I'm being unclear I can demo it for you, just PM me.

    This tutorial would have saved me 2 nights of work if it would have been out a month ago. Still great source of information! Thanks for educating me on a regular basis.

    This is awesome, when i finish studying and becomes rich because of your videos i will donate. Until then i will barley survive on my student loan. Thanks a lot!

    Thanks for the K-Factor tip. I have used flat pattern on some upholstery shapes, and I have lived with the distortion. The thinner the material, not as bad, but it is noticeable.

    The slice command in the drawing might also be useful to position the notch on the frame member (by that I mean the dimension of the slice)...fx if you have a notch on both ends...

    Thanks god that we now have Trumpf Tube Design and a 3D laser tube cutting machine to do this kind of works. :) Great video!

    I've used a similar workflow to this however I used the "Flat Pattern" option to unfold the tube. This way you don't have to fiddle with solid body / feature visibility and you just place the flat pattern view down onto the drawing sheet. I must admit that I've never thought of using the Rip function though.

      How do you flatten a tube without a rip? There needs to be a gap? This method is specifically for tubes that start life from the content centre/frame generator but curious to hear how you do it without a rip

    • @Flyingmarshie
      @Flyingmarshie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh flip...I didn't mention that I would manually draw and extrude a thin pie slice out of the tube (also from Frame Generator), but Rip is so much faster!

    I really enjoyed all your tutorials, keep up a good work!

    Thanks for doing some vids on the frame generator. I use it a lot and it's great, but at the same time it isn't. Is it possible to generate a cut list?

    Hi Neil, I like your videos very much. I usely try them right away. But this time I have some trouble. I made a similar frame as yours, but I turned the square tubes by 45° and placed a round tube in an angle. notched it, turnd it into sheet metal, changed the k-Faktor to zero. First weaird thing, when I thicken the tube, making a new solid, it adds also to the notched face of the tube, second, I'm not abel to ripp the tube to flatten it. Any suggestion, what I'm doing wrong?

    Sir, I'm new to inventor. I have a question and hope you can help. How can I project the inside edge of a tube to the outside surface? Such as a 90 degree tube joint with tube diameters of 80mm and a 6mm wall thickness. Attempting to transfer a tube drawing to .dxf for a cnc tube cutter that will not make beveled cuts. I'm just wanting to project the inside edge onto the outside surface so I can split the outside surface and remove the unwanted portion. I'm sure its easy but I just cant find the answer. Thank you.

    Wouldn't it be better to thicken to a near 0 thickness? this way wouldn't the notch profile be around the neutral line of the bend?

    Hi Neil, Thank you for the epic video tutorials and help on Autodesk Inventor. I am currently working through an Inventor manual to try and hone my skills (I am relatively new to program) and was wondering if you would be so kind as to assist with a question I am struggling with? I have a difficulty understanding the "Auto Explode" function in a presentation file to create a time line on an assembly (multiple moving part). For some reason I can't find the Auto Explode in 2018 version of inventor. Was it removed/hidden? Am I blind? Do I need to adjust all components separately at the start of the timeline? The manual is a 2015 version. Enjoy the rest of you day mate.\m/

    I use a modified version of your tutorial here. If using your method verbatim, wouldn't your mass be doubled for that part and mess with overall weights and COG? If so, may want to point that out to the users in case they don't realize it.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shit, aye, I never thought of that! Usually I always consider the BOM and physical implications of stuff but I got so wrapped up in how to get around the K factor issue I forgot about the mass being a thing! Dammit, thanks for mentioning that, I'll put it in a pinned comment at the top here.

    Thanks a lot :) Im saving this , so the second solid you can cange wheigt on to 0 otherwise i guess but that even moore work. But if was as i guessed no easy way of getting those. My last mtb frame i just noched everything by eye :)

    Since you have been doing several vids on the frame generator I though I would pick your brain. The structural engineer I use to stamp my work always asks me for a wireframe on center as this is what his program works with and he doesn't work from cad or Inventor files at all. The question is, can the reference wireframe be exported and annotated with the points plotted in 3d space?

    Can you help me out for FEA topic?
    I'm checking FEA prob points but after openings the FEA results all the prob points are disappear. I need to save all the FEA prob points in some file format like .xls/.csv/.txt
    Please check out and revert if you can.
    I'm using 2013 version!

    OFF TOPIC: Have you changed your audio capture setup in latest videos? I find your voice too compressed and for me (non native speaker) it is harder to understand what you say. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression

      @Neil3D  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aye I cranked up the low end a bit too much on this one, my videos are done in a massive hurry as I have to squeeze them in around my day job and life, so I screwed up the audio on a few of the recent ones soz.
