Unfortunately this history is still ignored, forgotten and denied to this day. However anti-Roma racism and stereotypes stemming from slavery are still widely spread and even encouraged throughout Europe. If you want to learn more about Roma slavery I tagged my full length youtube video which goes over the topic in-depth! Make sure to follow Kahlil Greene (@genzhistorian) on all social media platforms for similar history content!

I can't tell you how many arguments I've had with my family because they still think the Roma were just serfs. Nothing I say will make them listen to me because I've lived in California for almost 20 years and I haven't gone to school in Romania since I left Romania after 6th grade. They just refuse to accept that a lot of things taught in Romanian history classes are simply not accurate. They don't understand that there is a difference between history textbooks in Romanian at least the ones I had in school between 1999-2005 (which lack references- most American textbooks have a long list of citations at the end of the textbook) and primary sources. It is enraging!

And what people still seem to want to ignore (perhaps this is a bit off-topic, I know) is that slavery ending first became conceivable not when the abolitionist movement start in England d(and no I'm not saying the abolitionist movement in England should be overlooked or forgotten, or that we should downplay the Civil War, but the idea that slavery could end and was wrong didn't start until after the slave rebellion in Haiti. It feels sometimes like no one wants to admit that it was slaves themselves who first inspired the idea of slavery ending completely.
Though I'm a mix of the UK and Eastern Europe by background so I don't know if I should really have any say in this I guess

You have as much say as you want. You have a right to your opinion on any subject. That is free speech. No one can say you don't because your view may be correct. Whoever says you don't have any say is racist.

The Mamuluks in Egypt were a mixture of Greek and other European Muslim slaves that rebelled and took over Egypt from the Arabs, but the Mamuluks were already culturally assimilated into the Arab culture to actually make any difference in the region. This is an example of why castration of male slaves happened, and why it is unusual to breed slaves. European Americans were largely fortunate to not have mass rebellions, only within the Caribbean such rebellions were successful.

The first known example of slavery was by an ancient king named Nimrod. You might have heard of him from the bible. While it is unknown what race he was specifically every supposed reincarnation of him was black. He is primarily known for being Atheist and hunting humans for sport. While the term "slave" was not used in ancient times, these humans he hunted were obviously not being hunted willingly. Most historians agree they were likely slaves captured in battle. Since most ancient wars were fought civilization against civilization it is very likely that Nimrod primarily enslaved members of other races.
If the existence of Nimrod is historically accurate he would have live between 2,800 BCE and 2,100 BCE, or 4.1 - 4.8 thousand years ago.
