I'm from Ukraine, currently live in Romania, I love it. I like that a lot of things can be done via internet, even you can buy groceries from Auchan or Kaufland sitting home and they would deliver groceries to you for very affordable price. Also mobile and home internet are cheap comparing to EU countries. The only thing i didn't like is lots of cars and hard times finding a parking place though the situation is much better than in Italy thank God. Generally, the country is nice to live in. People know English better than me so it's not hard to communicate.
The problem with the traffic in Bucharest is that the city wasn't envisioned to support such a big population. It should have been adapted to modern times, but these revisions are coming at a slower pace than we would have wanted. Also, fun fact. Bucharest has its history tied to Vlad Tepes, since it was used as a base for him in order to fight The Ottoman Empire. The most important city at the time was thought to be Targoviste, which nowadays is a small town.

FUN FACT: "Romanian preserved the Latin case system and grammar while the other Romance languages developed prepositions and dropped the case system entirely. This means Romanian is the closest language to Latin in terms of grammar. It's impossible to communicate the Latin vocative case in Italian, but when a Romanian hears "et tu brute" they know exactly how Caeser meant it(or Shakespeare rather). Other people who hear Romanian think it sounds closest to Latin. To me Italian sounds quite effeminate with its "o" endings. Romanian is the only romance language that still maintains a masculine and authoritative sound like Latin does. The case declensions in Romanian are inherited directly from Latin. Example of Latin case declension: Latin: intelligimus linguA RomaniAE Romanian: Intelegem limbA RomaniEI Italian: capiamo LA lingua DELLA Romania" @UlpianHeritor
I appreciate your commentary. The exposure of South Slavs to the cultural influences of Eastern Roman empire in first milenium AD with creation of Old Slavonic from south Slavic dialects made entrance of influences from Latin grammar and case declension to modern south Slavic languages (bul. serb. cro.) denoting also former speakers of Latin like Romanians but having mostly different vocabulary. The line of influences in time is Old Slavonic to Medieval Bulgarian ( first Bul. Emp. having Latin speakers as subjects ) to Rus./Belorus/Ukr. etc ( after 800 AD). See theory "Sprachbund" (" language federation")- Wikipedia. It reflects a reality of first milenium AD in Eastern Europe of ad-hoc federations more or less consensual of sedentary populations and migratory tribes going sedentary trying to emulate East. Roman Empire. Best regards.

No Romanian or Moldavian uses the word Moldavia. Both the Romanian Moldova and the republic of Moldova, we call Moldova. (Romanians sometime call the republic of Moldova as Basarabia). But the word Moldavia does not exist in our language.

I am Romanian. I love Romania ❤! Thank you for your efforts to describe in a few minutes documentary ROMÂNIA, my country, which I am proud of. Yes, although many migratory tribes (slavs, huns, gepids, goths, cumans, sarmatians, tatars, mongols, otomans) ransacked our country and after that Empires tried to force us become one of theirs, we stood still and fought back and protected our dacian legacy (you would be surprised by what a longevity had the dacians, as an united people, they were the ones that amazed the roman emperors and teached them a lesson not to forget at Tapae (2 times) and in a Daco-Roman first war (the roman occupation was between 116 - 271 - Dacia (Felix) Romana it was called but that is not to be considered a conquest but rather a way of living in peace and sharing the roman and dacian cultures for about 150 years! After Roman retreat, DACII have been ravaged by the barbarian tribes in swift raids. In the 1200-1300s they established boundaries of Transilvania, Munteania (Wallachia) and Moldova. But there were so many longings for these three principals (PRINCIPATE) that this land's conquest was one of the most important missions the Europe rulers had. If you owned these states you could easily be acknowledged as the king ruler. As such, Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave) had united these three rich little "countries" under one command in 1600, but then he lost the territorries because the greek secret mission of Eteria killed him and this led to an unexpectedly outcome. Then the fanariots came in 1700's and the land was in turmoil and rulership instability due to the otoman conquests and expanding politics of other empires. And after that, the 1848 Revolution came across Europe, these small regions taking part to it, too. The reason they fought for was the freeing of peasant slaves (called "iobagi"), and independent ownership of the land. Alexandru Ioan Cuza reunites 2 of 3 territories back again (Wallachia and Moldova) in 1859 and then, for the first time in history, Romania will have a Constitution , in 1866, under the reign of Charles the 1st of Romania. The modern ROMANIAN STATE was established in 1918, 1st of December, after the First World War, when Transilvania (subdued until then to the Austro-Hungarian Empire) was declared an independent region (and so called Basarabia, the Moldova beyond Prut river). It was the time that the three main regions united and ROMANIA WAS RECOGNIZED AS ONE INDEPENDENT STATE🟦🟨🟥 ruled by a monarch and his Parliament, then, in 1965 by a communist Dictator (Nicolae Ceausescu), and after the 1989 Revolution, by democratic presidents. So, we, as Romanians had to fight a lot for safekeeping our country borders and to preserve our ethnic legacy, despite the empires, tribes and rulers that we had to fight against. We are located in a most strategic point across Europe and this was the main reason some of the countries battled for gaining access to our land resources and serving our geo-political status as a shelter against other peoples.
Romania is a country that is really beautiful if you go on tours and visit the beautiful scenery. What's interesting is that it's like a condensed Europe when it comes to natural beauties. You have delta's, canyons, glacier, caves, rolling vine hills, rocky mountains, sprawling forests and seaside. Mostly this is due to the fact that the country geography is made up of fields, hills and mountain in equal parts.

Moldova and Moldavia are the same thing. The eastern Moldova, after being taken by Russians was renamed as Basarabia. The real Basarabia was the southern part of the East Moldova (mostly now in Ukraine). Also, the portion that you named Transilvania is composed by more regions than Transilvania itself, like Maramures, and Banat.

@@gundabalf one little correction: we joined the Axis ''after '' the Vienna Diktat(1940) and the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact(1939) whilst Romania having a '''royal dictatorship'' that ended up with the abdication and fleeing of King Carol II. Then the fascists really came in power and the primary solution of the Marshall Antonescu was to get back the eastern parts( Basarabia and Bucovina) from the russians by helping the nazis in their 1941 invasion of USSR. The outcome was in the end that we got back Transilvania not Moldova and had ''the poisoned blessing'' of 42 years of communism.

The name of the Apuseni mountains actually means 'Sunset-ies' or something like that. 'Apus' in Romanian means sunset, 'Apuseni' are 'those that are at the sunset'. Sunset is at west *AND 'apus' is synonym with west* indeed, but the word means *in its genesis* the sun action not the geographical direction. Thanks for the presentation! Thanks to BND, Wallachia, Cristi Vidrascu for insisting on the fact that 'apus' and 'vest' are otherwise synonyms for those who didn't already knew that and thanks Ana Munteanu for pointing where my translation failed to do proper justice.
False! In the traditional Romanian speech (where the name of the mountains derives from), Apus means "West". The modern Romanian words "Vest" and "occident" are neologisms, so "Munții Apuseni" always meant "Western Mountains", IT INDICATES GEOGRAPHICAL DIRECTION! Even today we have things such as the "Autostrada răsăritului" (Sunrise Highway/Eastern Highway). There's even "miazăzi" (midday/South) and "miazănoapte" (midnight/North) People who live in the city are incredibly out of touch with the true meaning of words, what I mentioned above is still used everywhere outside of Bucharest, please learn!

so I'm going to address this because I see a few romanians attempting to correct the thing about Vlad. Dracul, back in those times, did mean dragon. Vlad's dad ( also Vlad ) was given the title Dracul from the order of the dragon ( from Ladislav of Hungary, although I'm definitely spelling that wrong ), making Vlad the Impaler "son of the dragon". In time, the meaning of dracul became "devil", but that's a more modern interpretation of the word. also, we don't really have the word "moldavian". we call the region of romania that in English is Moldovia as Moldova , and the country of Moldova simply as rep of Moldova ( or Bessarabia ). I won't go in the historical context of why the Republic of Moldova is a separate country, but mainly is has to do with Stalin being a prick.
Actually the meaning of drac comes from Latin and the meaning of it is not only dragon. Bad spirit, imaginary entity, wicked, lucifer, snake, and also dragon. But the main description of it we can say is "the devil".
Good video! One correction though… Ioan does NOT start with a lowercase L, but an uppercase i. Its pronunciation would be more like Yoan. It's the Romanian form of the Italian name Giovanni.

You forgot to mention two things. 1. Romanians can learn other romance languages much faster, than lets say, an italian learning romanian. 2. The romanization process done by the romans was so , lets say , brutal, that romanian is the 3rd language closest to ancient latin, the first two being sicilian and italian. So yeah, a country surrounded by slavs and hunic people groups is closer to latin than spanish, catalan and portuguese.
Well the true is other. The romanization never have be done,it whas imposible, because romans conquer 25 procent of land ocupated by dacians(getae) and only for 165 years. The graphics are great but unfortunately there are too many inaccuracies (without even mentioning the pronunciation). The Moldavia vs Moldova distinction is incorrect, the Austro Hungarian and Russian Empires didn't exist in the Middle Ages, nor did they rule parts of Romania (Russia's first foray into the territory was in 1812), etc. Many images are not from Romania, etc.
I've been to Romania twice. My biggest travel regret EVER, is that I didn't drive further into the country from Timisoara, to visit the Dracula castle in Bran. It's over 400 km each way which is why I decided against it, but damn I regret not doing it. I've also been to Constanta, I took a day trip up there when on vacation in Golden Sands, Bulgaria. Beautiful old square on the top of the hill (by the cathedral), but the rest of it wasn't much to talk about. Quite a lot of old buildings that are simply falling apart with no one doing anything about it.
The trues is that romans spoke a similar language to dacians. The Spanish linguist Carme Jimenez Huertas spoke about the fact that the Romanian language, along with the other Romance languages, is not born from Latin and that Romanization is only a story for the naive. The theory that the Romanians are the descendants of Rome was imposed by the luminaries of the Ardelene School, Greek-Catholic intellectuals educated by the Vatican in Jesuit schools: Petru Maior, Samuil Micu, Gheorghe Șincai and Ion Budai Deleanu in 1848. We where called Dacians until 1800. Even Pope called Michael the Brave "Malus Dacus" in 1600. The conclusion is that the official history of Romania is based on false theories. The Roman occupation lasted from 105 to 275 CE, i.e. 170 years and only on a limited territory. Consequently, how could the Dacians be Romanized and acquire the Latin language, if only a third of their territory was occupied by the Romans. Moreover, the Roman occupation lasted only 170 years, much less than in Gaul and Britain, and the English do not speak a Latin language, and Welsh is still popularly spoken in some regions of rural France. Same in Palestine and Egipt. Transylvania was occupied by the Austrians from 1700 to 1918, i.e. 218 years and Transylvanian Romanians do not speak German either at home or on the street, maybe only the students from a high school. The Basarabians were occupied by the Russians for 200 years, but they speak Romanian in their families. So the idea of Romanization of Dacia, territorially occupied by only one third of Rome, falls from the point of view of simple historical logic. Miceal Ledwith, confidant of Pope John Paul II and the man who had access to all the secret documents in the Vatican library, recently made a statement that shocked the academic world and beyond. He declared that cultured Latin derives from the ancient Romanian language, not the other way around, as was believed until now! In an interview given to the television station TVR Cluj, in December 2012, Miceal Ledwith, former adviser to Pope John Paul II, one of the people who had access to the 230 kilometers of bookshelves in the Vatican library archive and former member of the International Theological Commission, made a shocking statement: "Even if it is known that Latin is the official language of the Catholic Church, as well as the language of the Roman Empire, and the Romanian language is a Latin language, fewer people know that the Romanian language, or its precursor, comes from the place from which the Latin language is derived, and not the other way around!!! The Roman emperor Trajan considered himself a descendant of the Thracians who, after the conquest of Troy by the Greeks, took refuge in Italy. Dacians where Thracians too ansd spoke the same language. We Romanians should be aware of what "treasures" we have inherited, both material but especially spiritual, moral and sacred values, which our ancestors preserved and bequeathed to the next generations! We have all these values in the form of a "loan" from future generations! Let's stand with our "heads up" in the world, let's not allow ourselves to be denigrated by the "game" of the detractors!
Transylvania was occupied by the Austrians from 1700 to 1918, Newer heard of that ?Austrians? Sever inferiority complexity What about this? Now or never let us give proof to the world That in these veins Roman blood still flows, That in our chests we hold a name with pride, Victorious in battles, the name of Trajan! Did the Vatican told you say this? (Roman blood) "Dacians where Thracians too" Of course every body is Dacians. Then way don't you call your self Dacians, instead Romanian.I know it was imposed by the luminaries🤭 We where called Dacians until 1800 by whom? So the Latin language is derived,Romanian language, 🤔🤗
In Romania no-one was "forced assimilated" but a lot of jews are having foreign names to cover a non romanian identity because they prefer to look like being just a few even if they are controlling all the social, political and economic important positions.

FUN FACT:
"Romanian preserved the Latin case system and grammar while the other Romance languages developed prepositions and dropped the case system entirely.
This means Romanian is the closest language to Latin in terms of grammar.
It's impossible to communicate the Latin vocative case in Italian, but when a Romanian hears "et tu brute" they know exactly
how Caeser meant it(or Shakespeare rather).
Other people who hear Romanian think it sounds closest to Latin. To me Italian sounds quite effeminate with its "o" endings.
Romanian is the only romance language that still maintains a masculine and authoritative sound like Latin does.
The case declensions in Romanian are inherited directly from Latin.
Example of Latin case declension:
Latin: intelligimus linguA RomaniAE
Romanian: Intelegem limbA RomaniEI
Italian: capiamo LA lingua DELLA Romania" @UlpianHeritor
I always find it flattering when people find my comments and copy/paste them in other videos. 😊

In WW2 Romanian joined the axis because Russia invaded Romania and carved Half of Moldova region, witch is now republic of Moldova (they carved Poland, Finland and the Baltics) and when payed back, they played the victim, as if they never invaded in the first place.
Also because the country was lead by fascists. Also, we joined the Axis which proceded to take away half of Transylvania.
@@gundabalf you mean giving back to whom you took it from 20 years before?

False! In the traditional Romanian speech (where the name of the mountains derives from), Apus means "West".
The modern Romanian words "Vest" and "occident" are neologisms, so "Munții Apuseni" always meant "Western Mountains", IT INDICATES GEOGRAPHICAL DIRECTION!

so I'm going to address this because I see a few romanians attempting to correct the thing about Vlad.
Actually Moldova was Moldavia but that was changed during the 1800s

One correction though…
Ioan does NOT start with a lowercase L, but an uppercase i. Its pronunciation would be more like Yoan. It's the Romanian form of the Italian name Giovanni.

it is much closer to slavic Ivan than italian Giovanni, the difference between Ivan and Ioan is pretty much the same as Dumitru and Dimitri

Why romanian it is so close whit latin??? Because they are sisters. The dacians language whas a traco iliro language so it is now romanian language. Mihai Vinereanu it is lingvist and in his works(books) demonstrated and show that. Look what they say on Vatican abaut romanian language and his origins. th-cam.com/video/mU203ufRPpw/w-d-xo.html
That "brutal" Romanization was not brutal at all. Dacian, Albanian and Latin were the same as the Romance languages today. They were of the same people, it ain't rocket science :). Look for Ovid's writings there are and quit making ignorant statements.
Guys we are talking here romglish, a combination between roumanian and enghlish :))
Meanwhile me struggling on basic 7th grade French:
@@metalassassin8841 I have studied Ovid’s writings and after being exiled to Constanta, he remarked that the Dacian language was so foreign to Latin that it was painful for him to even hear it being spoken. So i’m not sure what you're talking about, but maybe you should study actual history instead of regurgitating dacopathic propaganda.
Gigabats haha, that one had me giggling, salut from Romania.
Some misprounced words, but I really enjoyed this video. Very well structured. 😊
I spent 3 months in Romania in 2022. It's a very beautiful country with lots of great food. The people are very nice and friendly too. Craziest drivers I've ever seen though
fun fact: temperatures in the summer in romania peak at around 46 degrees celsius
La tine la Miticeşti 😂

I loved this video! Entertaining and informative! Love ❤
This is the first time i see a well-researched video about romania made by a foreigner
3:35 is vásárcsarnok in budapest hungary not romania, great video tho!
7:32 The one in the left is Moldova and the one in the right is Bessarabia (or just simply Basarabia - as we (romanians) call it).
Great video and well explained! Well done 👍🏻
Nice! Greetings from Romania = Salutări!
Salut👋🏻
In latin ITA is Yes and pronunciation is similar with DA. :)
Ita from latin has the meaning more of "for sure" is not that close to it. But cool fact.
@@Kitty-cc9gf It is close because in time, ITA turned into IDA and later on in history to the simple version of DA. This has become a know fact on the definition for yes. There is no country who has ever switched on of the most basic words in their vocabulary with something borrowed from another language. If this would have been the case, do tell me please, why the version for no is "nu" (closer to "no" in IT, FR, ES) and not "ne" (bulgarian) or "niet" (russian)
I am romanian. In fact, i was born and raised in Iași (the only romanian word you pronounced it almost correctly). Vlad Dracul was the father of Vlad the Impaler, that is true, but "Dracul" doesn't translate into "dragon" but into "devil", literally. Also, "Dracula" in romanian is a term closer to "devil" than a name, maybe closer to "The devil" or "the one devil" than just "devil".
Nope! this is wrong: "Datorită apartenenței sale la Ordinul Dragonului, tatăl lui Vlad Țepeș era supranumit Dracul, după numele latin al Ordinului Dragonului (Draco)." EN: "Due to his membership in the Order of the Dragon, Vlad Țepeș's father was nicknamed Draco, after the Latin name of the Order of the Dragon (Draco)."
Very cool country and People, thanks for the vid
Amazing channel, glad I found it. Looking forward to you doing Bulgaria.
non romanian people trying to pronounce romanian words is one of the funniest things
Quite a lot of old buildings that are simply falling apart with no one doing anything about it.
,,Da"( yes) word come from vulgar latin word ,,ita/ ida "! Isn't slavic word!😉
that's extremely funny :))))
you should be a comedian
Great job. Seeing how you have presented my country, I rust that the other videos are as accurate 👍👌
im from romania and i fell very left out so this made my day
Moldova and Moldavia are both called Moldova in Romanian as they used to be one country until russians decided the other way
The trues is that romans spoke a similar language to dacians.
Check the newer "Originile limbii române" TH-cam link.
Transylvania was occupied by the Austrians from 1700 to 1918,
Newer heard of that ?Austrians?
Sever inferiority complexity
What about this?
Now or never let us give proof to the world That in these veins Roman blood still flows, That in our chests we hold a name with pride, Victorious in battles, the name of Trajan!
Did the Vatican told you say this? (Roman blood) "Dacians where Thracians too" Of course every body is Dacians. Then way don't you call your self Dacians, instead Romanian.I know it was imposed by the luminaries🤭 We where called Dacians until 1800 by whom?
So the Latin language is derived,Romanian language, 🤔🤗
3:35 This is a large market place in Budapest (Hungary) not Bukurest if that was the intension...
Really nice video, but i would like to point out that ‘Dracul’ doesnt mean Dragon, but Devil
Loved the videos from Hungary :)))
The English and Romanian pronunciations of Romanian names are simply butchered, with all due respect to the work spent on making this video.
David Popovici 😢
O fi considerat "minoritar"....dupa nume😏!
Sounds like he's one of the Serbs that you forcefully assimilated in the 20th century
In Romania no-one was "forced assimilated" but a lot of jews are having foreign names to cover a non romanian identity because they prefer to look like being just a few even if they are controlling all the social, political and economic important positions. My comment was short for the people who all ready know what I meant. Otherwise we are very proud for his achievements and his exemplary education attitude and behaviour. Many of them are "more romanian" than the romanians.
