What I'm realizing I love the most about this channel is the absolute lack of judgement in each and every video. Though you will occasionally (like in the videos with cuts of meat from the dollar store) tell people that they'll get better value with a better product, you never pass judgement on a product even if you don't like it. There's a real understanding that yes, while something might not be the healthiest (or tastiest) choice, it could be the only or most affordable option for someone and I just can't tell you enough how much I appreciate that. Too often you see people reviewing things and talking about the laziness inherent in a product or how awful processed food is vs fresh food. I just love that you bring empathy and understanding to the table with your, frankly excellent, descriptions of what you're tasting.
Objectivism. The world could use more of that.

Hey there, retired army cook here. I dont know that there are dates on the individual bags, the box they come in has a creation date and a special sticker that changes colors overtime to show if they are still safe to eat. If there is a production number on it somewhere, it would likely be a year (last 2 digits) then a number from 1-365, indicating which day of the year it was packaged. MREs are good for many many years though, so im sure your safe. lol This one actually looks like the newest iteration of MREs so its no more than 10 years old.

I've noticed a lot of the gum in the MREs is cinnamon, which isn't an uncommon gum flavour but not as common in stores as mint. I wonder if that's because mint can make your mouth really sensitive to cold, so it's not good for if you're eating an MRE in a cold environment. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it and people just like cinnamon gum.
Maybe cinnamon helps refresh you or something
Sounds reasonable to me. Mint definitely makes your mouth chill when you breathe in.

This video is 4 years old, and I'm watching it on the very last hours of 2020, which has been a crazy, unbelievable year. That being said, I have enjoyed all of her videos that I have seen so far. Takes a lot of stress away. Thanks, Emmy!

I love MRE's! The first time I ever tasted these was back when hurricane Katrina hit and we were left with no power for weeks. We were given a big box full of these.
there's date codes on some of the mre packs a 4 digit code for example 4233 this would be packaged on the 233 day of 2014 or same date code on one 10 years older also that's the problem with American date codes but that's how you tell when they were packaged

The best part about being homeless after hurricane Katrina was the MRE's. Delicious. preparing them was kinda fun and interesting which helped to take my mind off of my troubles for a few minutes a day.

They are pretty good for what they are. I bought one off Amazon a couple of years ago. Ebay also sells them, or there are sites that specialise in selling MREs and other survival/army surplus stuff.

Emmy, my Lovely. The date code is embossed on the bag edge, and also printed on most of the components. It's a four-digit code with the first numeral being the year and the last three the Julian date. So 5023 would be 2015, and the 23rd day. Or Jan 23, 2015. Canada uses five digits, with a two-digit year code to eliminate the decade confusion that ours can cause. (Is it 2015, 2005, 1995, or...?)
Generally there should be a 4digit # stamped in black ink or imprinted into the bag itself, it does sometimes take a careful eye, and not every MRE will have one on the bag, but every component of the MRE should have the 4 digit # on it somewhere. then all you have to do is take the last 3 numbers and that will be the day it was packaged, and the 1st number will give you the year it was packaged. so a 5108 would mean it was packaged on the 108th day of 2015. 3287 would mean it was packaged on the 287th day of 2013
Emmy, look for a 4 digit code on the outer packaging for a date of when the MRE was packed. There are also 4 digit codes on each snack, meal or drink. The 4 digit code will look like this for example: 3016. This means it was either packaged on the 16th day of 2003 or the 16th day of 2013. Normally people can tell by the packaging itself if it is new or old. Hoped this helped.

My favorite thing about your videos is you describe things to memories, it's like something you would have at a birthday party when you were 6, which I loved. While I don't know anyone in the military but I'm glad that these MRE's can remind soldiers of home even if it's in different way.

Your such a good sport! I was in the service (Army) in the 90's and I'll tell you the options were not as pleasurable as they seem to be now. I never used the warmer (which it's true, they were slim and timing was a factor) BUT we had these tiny glass tabasco sauce bottles in most of the MRE's and that of course helped flavor everything! Love watching you eat the MRE's .. again .. a great sport!

That looked like a really good MRE (except the energy bar - blech)! I'm used to VERY OLD ones where anything chicken looks, well, we won't get into EXACTLY what it looks like but I can assure you, it's not appetizing. That chicken looked like chicken!

Hi Emmy! I know this is late, but you decode the dates by finding the ingraved numbers on the bottom of the package. They are not colored, but engraved so you will have to look for them. Once you find it, the numbers will be in a code like 5121. The last 3 numbers are the day of when it was made, and the first number is the year. Cheers! For example, that code would be the 121st day of 2015
Date code is normally on the Sealed part of the outer bag, but if not, each inner pouch will also be date coded Eg: 2315 would be the 231st day of 2015 (or 2005 if it's a really old one)
