  • In this travel vlog, we fly on Delta standard economy class on the vintage Boeing 717 from Washington Dulles Airport in DC to Atlanta International Airport in Georgia. While flying on a Boeing 737 or Airbus A321 may be the standard domestic airplane to fly on, in this review, I fly on one of the few 717's still in operation. only Delta Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and QantasLink still operate the Boeing in their fleets, thus this aircraft truly is a rare sight in airports across the world. Bonus The Boeing 717 takeoff is thrilling! The engine roar is fully audible within this video.

    Dulles to Detroit and then on to Kansas City on these earlier this week, same seat too, the take off acceleration on these is unmatched on anything I've ever flown,, made me smile.

    my first ever flight was on a 717, through a no longer existing airline called AirTran

      The best part is, all of the Delta 717s are old AirTran planes. Delta took them when Southwest bought out AirTran and opted out of taking the 717s... you probably noticed the AT at the end of their registration numbers painted on the plane.
      I miss AirTran...I never got to take part in the cheap business class flights... but the XM satellite radio on board was incredible 😊

    I am so glad I am a part of this plane. I use the 717-200 from AVL-ATL. I have flown it around 3-4 times now. I realize that I’m very lucky to fly one of these before they disappear. These planes are incredibly amazing. Although I am young, I am still very sad that these are going out very soon. I will always have a story to tell people when I am older that I could be a part of this beautiful plane. I will try to fly the 717 even more. Goodbye 🫡

    I can remember flying on the 717 when they still had that new plane smell with AirTran airways. Now you mentioned how old these planes are several times, and they might be compared to other airlines, but remember Delta seems to hang onto their aircraft a bit longer then others. The 717 was produced from 1998-2006 making the youngest 17 years old. Delta's fleet of 757 and 767 average age is just as old, if not older. And several A320 aircraft that were part of Northwest airlines fleet that merged into Delta I believe are even older. The 717 was a McDonnell Douglas design and is the grandchild of the DC-9. Northwest and later Delta had a large DC-9 fleet that was only retired less then a decade ago and at retirement many of these aircraft were over 40 years old. The old DC-9 was built like a tank and I bet the 717 was too!

      Check out some of the other 717 videos on TH-cam... the climb on every one of them is incredible. These things are not flying video games like the new planes out there... these birds were meant to be FLOWN.

    It’s a shame the 717 won’t be flying much longer, they are headed to the same fate as the md-80s

    • @theavidaviator
      @theavidaviator  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeahhh... and I mean the 717 is just a slightly newer version of the MD 80 anyways.

      @michaelmichniak127 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The MD-80 was first introduced in 1979, 20 years before the 717! Delta is also planning to keep flying them till at least 2030.

      @@theavidaviator You want a thunder wagon, did you ever fly on the DC-9-10? Now that was a true thunder wagon with a rocket take off that pushed you back in your seat with a steep climb. Many years ago I flew them from Midway airport in Chicago on Midway airlines. I swear, lightly loaded those planes took off using less then half the short runway's (longest 6500') at MDW. And if you were sitting at the back near the engine you had better bring some ear plugs!

    Okay, I just looked this up to find out what the heck is this 717. I just flew on one (Delta) from Montreal to Atlanta and there was no IFE, even in First Class! I then caught my connecting flight to Jacksonville on a 757, which was a nicer plane with IFE but for a 43 minute flight it didn't matter as much. Would have rather had the bigger/better plane on the longer flight for sure. PS, yes there was Wifi for purchase for $15 but it was crap, a complete waste of money. They didn't even off the Delta Go-Go Entertainment on your device which you used to get if you were on a plane with no IFE.

      @@theavidaviator it's very True my friend!!!! The 757 first flew in 1983!!! The first 717 flew in 1998!!!!! You tell me which is vintage lol!!! Plus Delta flies A320s from Northwest Airlines that were delivered too NWA in the late 80s early 90s so clearly the 717s aren't the oldest planes in Delta's fleet!!! Actually the 717s are closet in age to the 737-800s in Delta's fleet so if you consider the 717s too be vintage then you might as well include the 737-800s in that category as well 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ just saying
