Funny possibility is that Lucius didn't end up copying someone else's ideas, he ended up copying his own because he was the first to invent them in his time, which went on to become the inspirations for modern architecture which he "copied off of", creating an endless loop.
Basically Luscious only observed the inventions he didn't know how they actually worked, but making the almost exact thing with lesser resources(compared to modern time) is the thing that makes him a genius. More or less the fascinating thing was that had it been some other normal people moreover from any other random civilization, they would have had probably termed the healing hot springs, the massager and the toilet as merely some magic, it was the unique thinking of luscious who actually considered them mechanical, and thus replicated the creation to some extent, and moreover the education he might have had got as a citizen of roman empire. "Lest darkness fall" is one of my favorite time travel books. Archeologist is struck by lightning and that's all the explanation given for why he's suddenly in 100 A.D. Rome. He invents brandy (!) a big money maker, teaches modern numbers and digital values for *double entry bookkeeping*, other stuff, eventually manages a resparking of the Roman Republic. What makes it doubly interesting is that it was written just before WW II, when it seemed darkness was indeed falling over the world again.
Also, the notion that emperors Hadrian, Antonius and a big part of the Roman elite of that time were quite evidently Japanese makes it look even more amazing...
What makes rome special is their concrete Like seriously there are beautiful monuments all over the world but what makes rome special is they formulated "Roman concrete" when the rest of the world was using lime mortar
always important to remember that the pleasant climate in Rome during the era is a major reason it never spread. When Rome spread across more northern and western parts of Europe into much damper temperate climates such as Germanic territories and the British Isles they brought the concrete with them and it required constant upkeep with materials that had to be transported from Rome. This is a major reason why when Rome abandoned Britain, the villas and cities quickly fell to disrepair as the climate was not appropriate for such materials, we had neolithic monuments in England better preserved after thousands of years of exposure than the very hearts of Roman cities like Canterbury. Underfloor heating and large open ornate villas seems great when you have a massive empire and all its wealth and supply lines to maintain and staff the upkeep but once thats cut off such buildings fall to ruins within a generation and the ones that remain are torn down and replaced by less cold and costly buildings. Despite seeming far more simple, Anglo-Saxon huts faired much better in winter and during cold wet months and could be kept warm and repaired using only plentiful local materials. Following Norman rule after 1066 saw the construction of forts and castles make of flint and limestone, local materials suitable for the climate, rather than trying to imitate the withered remains of Roman fortifications across Europe. A good more modern example is how during the height of the British Empire, rich colonial citizens exported hard wood and stone from Britain to arid desert colonies to make colonial buildings in the style of Victorian architecture, whilst technologically better than local cultures - the local style of building was far more suited to the climate and when the British Empire receded the colonial buildings became irreparable and fell to ruins.
@@_s_9920 Thank you for the history lesson. That was fascinating! Now, when someone says, "The buildings in Rome were so beautiful..." I can nod in agreement and then say, "Yes, they were but, did you know..." lol

Saw ths movie a while back, it was batshit crazy and weird in the best way possible, almost as much as the manga it was based on Also, to anyone who's curious: The reason Lucius came back to Rome every time is because of his tears. He cried in the bathhouse after tasting the milk, accidentally sprayed his eyes in Mami's house and shed a few tears because of the bidet's, um... function. Mami returned to her time due to crying tears of joy and the older men getting ash in their eyes.
Could've fooled me i thought he was probably from Southern Europe but is facial features kinda make sense since the average Japanese person have anywhere from 10-30% Jomon-Ainu dna and if you look up what Ainu or what the Jomon looked you'd see that they closely resembled Europeans despite being more related to Tibetans than to modern Europeans

Not necessarily, the earth rotates around the axis and around the sun. So while you may in your current place now, after some time there will be a completely different country occupying the same space. After some more time, the place you are in will return the place it was originally. So you can travel to different places while remaining in the same space, but at a different time.

Humans are fundamentally the same back then as they now, so it’s not TOO crazy of an idea that he was able to comprehend the mechanisms (Albeit at first glance). Granted this guy belongs to the upper echelons of human intelligence and creativity. We’ve only seen handful in history, probably many more who were never able to realise their true potential due to circumstance like Lucius would have(n’t)
Remember, people's modern perception of history is very distorted. For example, few people know that Roman's had water pumps, and the Greeks even had basic steam machines and even analog computers (yes really. Look up antihythera mechanism). It's really not that difficult for this guy to create basic water features. Its weird that lucius shoots the bow so well since 1he is an architec 2 romans were never in to ranged fights, romans prefered the shield and spears tactic where they form cubes of shields by holding them in front and above them then sticking the spears out of the soldier boxes, this way arrows could not harm them and they would win against any ranged or close combat troops
@Koke Garcia The fact is that European bows at the time were relatively lackluster (bows would receive a lot of innovation in the medieval era), which is why the Romans didn't use them much. A historically accurate test would have been to ask him to use a sling (not a slingshot they are different things) to hit something. Using a sling effectively takes a lot of practice and very few modern people would be able to use one, but Romans would have effectively been training with them since childhood since it's a tool necessary for everyday work (hunting small game and used to defend against wolves when grazing livestock). A sling can also be made with a piece of fabric (paper also works) and two bits of string so you could literally make one on the spot instead of contriving a reason to go to an archery range.

What makes it doubly interesting is that it was written just before WW II, when it seemed darkness was indeed falling over the world again.

What makes rome special is their concrete
Like seriously there are beautiful monuments all over the world but what makes rome special is they formulated "Roman concrete" when the rest of the world was using lime mortar
always important to remember that the pleasant climate in Rome during the era is a major reason it never spread.

So while you may in your current place now, after some time there will be a completely different country occupying the same space. After some more time, the place you are in will return the place it was originally.
So you can travel to different places while remaining in the same space, but at a different time.

Thank you. Just like many, I wouldn’t have known to watch this movie. Artists share different getting creative processes and sometimes it becomes too mechanical and we plateau. Best way to become open minded again is studying other artist’s processes and their specific resulting artwork, to remind us in abstract of what being open felt like and how we juice it to the last drop before moving on to the next project in an adopted behavioral pattern. This movie captured his artistic cycle and the motives behind its inspiration and re inspirations a few times and did them all very well. As well as the summery here that didn’t edit those feelings out summarizing probably 95% of the movie in a very meaningful and efficient time.
Finally. I'm interested in how japanese see and perceive Romans and ancient times of the west. A film I will have to check out. Seems very interesting.
Humans are fundamentally the same back then as they now, so it’s not TOO crazy of an idea that he was able to comprehend the mechanisms (Albeit at first glance). He is mostly getting ideas, since he doesn't seem to dig in too deeply on the inner workings. He is still a genius to be able to replicate with his limited technology.
Rome really, really loved sweet food. They used fruit and honey for it.
The "replicating food" one is a bit easier to believe. I used to have a really talented grandma from the province that when we'd take her to expensive restaurants, she'd be able to recreate their dishes at home using cheaper and easier to acquire ingredients. Sometimes they didnt taste 100% the same, and sometimes they tasted even better!

@@AntonioCardenasT Yeah, just getting an idea for something and then trying to work it out with the materials on has isn't *that* crazy, honestly. @@justinaudiovision Never heard of the movie, Hot Tub Time Machine?
