Honestly this tv show’s humour was brilliant! Russian society is very conservative, and getting this show with the political and societal jokes it had was super unique and I loved it. It of course not meant to be taken seriously, it’s a light watch with nice jokes

Lots of books which use this premise, it can go either way, the minor sex becomes royalty or prisoners. As for Men, with artificial insemination I don't think they would become a crucial resource, and with modern technology there are many options to any strength based occupation or activity. Additionally with half the population gone, harvesting from nature for food which become very viable. In this scenario men could become toys used for recreation only.
