This doesn't feel right to me. If you want to demonstrate how small a target the new 7 mm PRC can hit from 1024 yards you could have used a simple steel plate to do it. There was no need to use that Elk as a marketing guinea pig. It seems like a cruel disservice to the animal. Before I start getting hate messages for voicing my opinion you should know that I am an RMEF and BHA member. I respect these animals too much to try such a long range shot like that. The worst part about it is that now every Tom, Dick and Harry (many of whom have no business shooting out that far at game) on the world wide web is going to want to go into the field and take unethical shots in copy cat fashion.

Most people will be so far short of the animal at 1000yds, it won’t matter if they try. I agree most hunters should not attempt shots beyond 250-300yds, depending on what they’re shooting and how they’re zeroed. Top-tier Long-range shooters with proper training and experience regularly hit 12” plates at 800-1200yds. Middle/upper-tier LR shooters can hit a 12” plate 1st-round from 600-700yds. It really depends on training, experience, and the conditions. If the wind is at a certain speed and value, it compresses my 1st-round hit ability down to 700-800yds on 12” plates with rifles that normally are capable of 1000-1200yd 1st-round hits. You have to know your limits.
I ran a private course for a hunter recently who drew a limited bull elk tag. We did a 2-day course, then a follow-up pre-hunt day of shooting from field positions at long range. He successfully took his bull at 850yds, using a Fierce 300 PRC later that following weekend.
But yes, most shooters should not even think about long range shots on game without training and experience. Most do not have rifles/optics/mounts that are even capable of doing it due to reticle/turret limits, and cartridges that don’t have what it takes to get there predictably with the right bullet.

You are correct when it comes to target shooting or when being a sniper shooting at an enemy.
Judging the wind correctly at that distance for a good ethical first shot on an animal, is close to impossible.
Shooting at an animal at that distance, has nothing to do with hunting either.
This man is just using animals as his toys and to have something to brag about, and he is no hunter at all.
He couldn't care less about how many animals he wounds and their suffering.

Thats one sweet rifle. As a fellow LR hunter i kinda get why a lot in the comments got their panties in a bunch. We owe it to the animals to provide clean ethical kills. I love shooting steel to beyond distances like this but have made a mistake or two along the way hunting and have had to suck up my pride and do whats right. Knowing your limitations is really important. A few years back I cut my hunting distances to half that range and pretty much always get bang flops since. And wont shoot unless i know and can favour for the conditions. Personally my limit is around 600m and that’s shooting big critters with big rifles, 7s and 338s in rock steady positions. There’s a lot that can go wrong out at 1000 and beyond and it’s to hard on my conscious to risk that. I’m not a fan of the marketing buy this rifle and you can shoot animals at 1000 yards.
I do love the technology and how rifles are advancing and will eventually have a 7prc but shots at those distances for me will be on steel and ill still ideally try to work within 500 regardless of what calibre, bullet setup
being used. Impressive speed for that short of a barrel that is certainly one handy and capable rifle. Cheers

I know it was a crazy far shot but from a marketing standpoint I don't think I would have posted a video of an elk needing two shots and then bragging about how awesome the 7 PRC is. That's like bragging about how I have the best broadheads ever and then showing a video of a deer needing to get hit by two of them to go down. Maybe take a closer shot and go for DRT or at least a one shot kill? Either way I'm sure the 7PRC will do fine

Exponential growth is a process that increases quantity over time. It occurs when the instantaneous rate of change (that is, the derivative) of a quantity with respect to time is proportional to the quantity itself. Described as a function, a quantity undergoing exponential growth is an exponential function of time, that is, the variable representing time is the exponent (in contrast to other types of growth, such as quadratic growth).

You clearly are clueless about math.
Exponential growth doesn't have to be related with time at all.
Here is a bit you can try to understand about exponential growth:
The formula for exponential growth is y=ab^x when the b is greater than 1.
The value of a can never be 0 and the value of b can never be 1.
When using exponential growth as a relationship using percents, we use this formula: y = a(1+r)^x, where r is the growth rate, a is the initial value and x is the exponent of the base 1 + r.
If you didn't understand that, you can ask someone to dumb it down for you.

The elk walked 70 yards and feel over dead. Right through the lungs. Not sure how he suffered? In hunting, animals get wounded at 100 yards with rifles all the time. Just because you can take those shots, don't mean you should 👎🏾

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The problem with elk is that you can spend 6-7 days hunting them, and only get a few fleeting moments where they’re visible and presenting broadside. They like to keep their distance from people during season, and they’re very good at doing that. This is why long range cartridges in the Rocky Mountain region have been popular dating back to the 1950s. Modern optics, laser range finders, ballistic calculators, accurate bullets designed to expand at distance, and precision rifles allow trained and experienced hunters to extend their ethical killing reach.
I agree about stalking as much as you can, and especially surveying/scouting your hunting areas at least a year in-advance to learn the patterns of the elk there, then stick to that area so you get to know it more. Most hunters can’t do that, especially out-of-State tags.

With those specs. that is a 800 yard gun max. You never exceed a 1 sec. T.O.F., at 800 yards you only have 1500 ft/lbs. at 1950 fps. which is almost to slow for that bullet to expand. That was an extreme risk, could not see where you hit the animal. This is how we get so many unclaimed animals these days. A 30-378 with a 250 grain custom hunting bullet could almost do the job at 3200 fps. , at a 1000 yards you would have 2145 fps. 2500+ ft/lbs., and 1.14 sec. 7mm PRC looks awesome to me and I will likely use one asmy go-to big game caliber. No hate on the round and no hate on the rifle. Looks quite nice.
But if we hunters can’t self-regulate what reasonable distances are on shooting at game, then gov’t (rightfully) should step in.
Regardless of his capabilities at punching holes in paper or hitting steel, this shot never should have been taken. Worse this is an advertisement to sell a rifle so that other would purchase the rifle in hopes of replicating this “hunt.” A lot of animals will get hurt because of this movement.

First you call this a spot and stalk hunt.
Then you shoot at an animal at 1023 yards from just outside your car.
You really showed us all your great stalking and hunting skills.
This has nothing to do with hunting at all.
This is only target shooting at long distances at live animals, to brag about your shooting skills and to sell a gun.
You could have done that by shooting on a steel plate instead of making an animal suffer.
This was not an enemy you were sniping at either, were shots like this and longer, is totally acceptable and often wanted.
If you misjudge the wind, calculate the shot wrongly or don't make a perfect shot at a steel plate or an enemy, it doesn't matter that much.
If that happens when you shoot at an animal and you make it suffer, it matters very much.
Anyone trying to talk about skill level, knowing your limits, knowing about long range shooting or even extreme long range shooting, they can just save their time and not write about it.
Any ethical hunter that is a very experienced long range shooter/sniper, would never shoot at an unwounded animal at that distance as he/she very well knows the high risks of wounding that animal and making it suffer.
If you really wanted to hunt and stalk, you could have easily stalked much closer to that elk and made an ethical first shot kill.
You are no hunter at all.
    This is nothing but disgusting.
Shooting at an elk at this distance, filming it and then putting it on YT tells me all about you as persons and it is for sure not pretty.

I believe the 7mm is a great suppressor host, you can use a lighter profile barrel with 1/2 ×28 threads, step it up to 5/8×24 with an adapter. And avoid the the weight of a .660+ barrel and still have a very capable, quite rifle that doesn't weigh 10lbs.
All the while having enough meat from the bottom of your threads to grooves to be safe. (Vs. 30 cal bore)
7mm wm with an ultra 9 has proven to be an awesome combo.
I used to use Hornady bullets exclusively, but how they marketed the eldx bullet (in reality, its a slightly tougher version of the sst, the jacket separated from the core 100% on every animal i shot) and the fact they charge for load data info, made me switch to nosler. (Free load data, and better preforming bullets on game) a choice I haven't regretted.

But it comes across lazy and disrespectful to hunting big game. The shot looked low and that animal suffered big time. No urgency from the shooter in putting that bull down cleanly after that first shot. Definitely no fair chase involved. Plus you guys drive up the hill to winch the bull into the bed of a truck. The hard work that goes into a real big game hunt makes people respect the animals more than the type of thing we just watched in this video. I know others will disagree. That’s fine. But I’d expect adverse feedback on public forums. Everyone has equal right to post what they think.

Any fast twist 7MM MAG. rifle chambered for any 7MM Mag. cartridge could make that shot but, is shooting elk at that range ethical?

Bet that ELD X didn’t do the work it should have. I’ll never shoot them again after a few failures at much closer range than this! Berger has never let me down.
