At the age of 14, she participated in the international competition for the first time, and the second time she scored full marks, which is unprecedented I’m proud of you Chinese girl👍👍👍
Quan Hongchan was very young at that time, and she didn’t even know what the Olympics were about, 😅so she didn’t feel much pressure. She didn’t understand what it meant to win a gold medal. She got 466!This year in Paris, she felt the pressure, which is why she cried after winning the gold medal. She is simply amazing! Love both girls
Quan got emotional at Paris also because just like every other young athlete she went through puberty after Tokyo, grew taller and heavier, had to endure both physical and mental challenges through all trainings, her new coach Chen Ruo Lin knew what it was all about and was always there for her, really great to watch how Quan developed.
1:08:39 i am completely at a loss as to what to say. she is so magnificent. 14 years of age, first major international. she is really holding it mentally prepared. 10's across the board. totally incredible.
Coaches and divers will be keeping this video as teaching materials . 466.2 will not be reached by any other divers for a very very long time and possibly not breakable.
Well, it is. Same as table tennis. Very frequently a few world champions compete for a national champion. That's very enjoyable to watch as spectators. Likewise, I've heard US Olympic swimming trial is at a higher level than the Olympics.
If the rest of the Chinese team would have joined and theoretically scored as they did in the 2021 Chinese Diving Championships, then Melissa Wu would have been 7th with her score of 371.40. 😮
It's on YT. What I witnessed from the video was the high standards exhibited by quite a number of divers. For the all 10s scored in the Olympics would merit no more than a 9 there. Absolutely incredible.
Chinese works uncreditable hard, that is why China has been excelling so fast in every sport! It is hard to believe two teenagers (14 & 15) winning the the gold and the silver!
Bronze may seem like a minor medal but in the diving world, winning this medal is like winning a gold medal for most competitors in major global competitions. Melissa Wu finally stood on the Olympic podium after 2 close attempts. Kudos to Quan Hongchan for showing a near-perfect diving sequence and Chen Yuxi for being a strong competitor.
What a pressure for theses young girls... and so many sacrifices and hard work for many years.... but it worth ! Begins the first one in olympics games means a lot. ❤
Wow! Just realised even if Quan Hong Chan scored 60 points in her last dive or 60 points in her 207C but all tens in her last dive, she would still have won her first Olympic gold medal. 😮 Totally awesome!
Finally! I've been waiting for this over a year cuz i want to rewatch. Keep rewatching highlight is not giving the same vibe. Thank you, Olympics Aquatics channel 🥰🥰
I remember watching the live telecast and when Xiao Hong came out, I exclaimed "dao deng" (little girl). Little did I know the sheer spectacle I would be witnessing. I bet none of the competitors except Chen YuXi really knew then at the start, what would hit them by just the 2nd round of dives.
@@wongkn9050 Chen Yuxi knows very well what she was going to be up against. In the internal China selection trials, completely unknown Quan HongChan competed as a 'dark horse' (not even underdog, more like a hopeless unknown), and defeated not only Chen Yuxi but 2016 Olympics champion Ren Qian, world champion Zhang JiaQi and many other highly rated divers to win the gold and sealed her selection. She was so dominant that the commentators changed her calling from 'small dark horse' to 'big dark horse' and it was here that Zhao QiHong, the head of the diving team picked Quan over Zhang JiaQi for the other spot in the individuals, joining Chen Yuxi who was then reigning world champion. Just for Quan, her GuangDong head coach He WeiYi was given an exception and sent to Tokyo to mentor Quan. After passing Quan HongChan to Chen Roulin, He WeiYi is now head coach of the dominant GuangDong diving team. Search TH-cam for the trials to see how dominant Quan HongChan was even at that time.
Quan is pronounced like Ch-uen, the "Kuan" pronouciation by the commentator is completely wrong. I can never understand why they never bothered to check with their fellow Chinese Aussie colleagues. Shockingly unprofessional.

Quan is the Queen, She won the hardest Chinese national diving competition at the age of 13.
466.20, oh my, Quan's dive is a piece of art!

Incredible diving from Quan, first international outing and broke the world record total score! Brilliant! Will definitely see more of her in future.
yeah, some people just simply got it. you can't work for it.
She is in Paris now

breakable by herself, at 14, she has 10 years and 2 maybe 3 Olympics to do it
Both Quan and Chen are capable of breaking this scoring record. Because both of them are able to score perfect scores. Love both Quan and Chen!
I can’t believe she was only 14. I remember watching this to years ago. I hope she had as much fun as she seem to.
Will not be broken forever
Neverrr...!
Quan is pure Perfection in Motion.Fabulous ❤❤❤
I don’t know how many times I watched it again 😮🎉❤
It’s amazing how they go into those arm-stands and balance on the edge like that, wow
The Chinese diving national competition is probably harder than the diving competition at the Olympics.

Yes indeed. They have to go through 3 different competitions with the best combined results to qualify for the candidate to represent the country
absolutely yes
Exactly

I totally in love with Quan ! Simply love her genuine self and smile ❤

Wow, in China's domestic competition, the scoring is actually more strict.
The other divers make so much more splash compared to the Chinese.
No one can surpass Quan Hongchan in this diving event😂
Chinese works uncreditable hard, that is why China has been excelling so fast in every sport!

My thoughts exactly

I bet they’ve seen it in the semi-finals?
No, not even Chen Yuxi expects Quan to win the gold medal.

perfect performance,Chinese team
Amazing every time I watch this performance.
I come to watch after Quan dominated the Paris diving…, incredible diver! Very serious when it comes to business but so goofy outside the platform.
She's a kid!

Was it the best Olympic diving performance ever?
Yes, absolutely obliterated the Olympic record.
Yes, she broke the previous record which was held by her current coach, Ruolin Chen, created in 2008. Ruolin Chen is a 5-time Olympic gold medalist.
Quan is the best.
All 10 Amazing👍👍👍👍👍

@39:19 THE COMMENTATOR SAID " IT WILL BE CLOSE TO A BRONZE MEDAL" INSTEAD SHE GOT GOLD
What the commentator meant was the battle for the bronze medal will be close
He refers to Melissa Wu 🫥
Quan is pronounced like Ch-uen, the "Kuan" pronouciation by the commentator is completely wrong. I can never understand why they never bothered to check with their fellow Chinese Aussie colleagues. Shockingly unprofessional.
