- In his first speech to the Conservative caucus since securing the leadership, Pierre Poilievre demanded that Prime Minister Trudeau not raise taxes “on workers and seniors.”
Poilievre was elected leader of the Conservative Party of Canada with a resounding first-ballot victory, garnering 68 per cent support.
Poilievre told members that under his leadership the Tories would “work with any party” but said he would “not support any new tax increases.”
“We will fight tooth and nail to stop the coalition (with the NDP) from introducing any,” he added.
During his speech to members, Poilievre highlighted the increasing cost of living facing many Canadians as they contend with rising inflation.

Listen very carefully to what he said near the end - "where the state is servant, and the people are the masters". This is a politician who understands his role.
The state is already servant and the people masters. You get to vote and choose. You can speak out as can I with freedom. We are not subject to secret police arresting or better yet simply removing you from the picture. Get some perspective. The state will never ever satisfy all of its people because elections have losers. You are an example of this. This guy gets in and guess what. I am the one feeling dissatisfaction most likely because as one of the poor he will have no problem railroading over me because in the new Conservative scheme of things, I don't matter and I don't exist. A partisan in Rideau just means a large section of the country doesn't get served. But you wouldn't care would you as long as you get served. Hence the issue with his final comment.
But does he understand that he's Canadian? I get the feeling he might, in which case he's the only Con who does.
If it is vice versa as it is now then its plain and simple a Dictatorship.
God help us.. if we did somehow end up with a leader that actually served in our best interests like this man, logically at that, we’d probably be the only country in the first world with that type of leader.. Which makes me fear that we won’t ever get the chance. If someone normal comes along they don’t get the platform they don’t get the votes (because they don’t get the spotlight and the coverage - in a positive light). If someone unbelievably bad for our country comes along they get all the air time all of the positive reinforcement from the media and anyone influential, it’s down to marketing. Anyone normal doesn’t get that same marketing basically.

He's less than favourable by the majority of Canadians. About 70% of Canadians do not care for Pierre and the Conservative platform. Maybe that means most Canadians don't want to go back to a time when cutting social programs, while dropping environmental regulations and increasing income inequality as well as privatization was seen to be a 'good thing' for the strength of society.

The thought of the Cons as they are now getting power makes me worry about Canada. I think he is a bit less in awe of the Republicans than the rest of the Cons, so, who knows? My oldest son and his wife moved to Mexico last November because of JT's strict covid mandates and out of control carbon taxes and inflation....and I read recently that lots of Canadians are leaving this country and/or are planning to leave because of JT. We need Pierre to take over the helm ASAP.

I never voted until PPC, again without holding my breath. I remember strolling down a popular Drive in Vancouver and seeing a rally and tent setup against C51 a decade or so ago. Politics is psychology in a way so being too far one way or the other isn't healthy. And here's a quote that's still to be determined if it will come to pass. "We will have world government...whether through conquest or consent". Is every politicians duty to bring us to that point, I don't know.

The trucker rally was organized by the American planers of the Jan 6th insurrection. Nothing Canadian about it. He will never be elected Prime Minister. He only has support (for the time being) from Westerners. The rest of Canada sees through him like Saran wrap. Thank you Pierre. I wish I was twenty years younger as there was never any hope for me us unless you worked along side the corrupt system. I know that Rome was not built in a day and we need more than change, we need transformation of so many systems. Now the arrogant, self-centered and pathological sick leader of Canada has a challenge and it is you. Such a man generally does not listen because he is arrogant, self-centred and has a golden spoon in his mouth his whole life. I like how you plan to lessen government bureaucracy and lessen the Federal Government as this is a real issue. I lived in Ottawa in the 1960s and I know. The benefits and perks of government men and woman are I find a lot higher than the man and woman who has an independent business or works for an independent business. We must also look at the defacto money system and the Bank of Canada. As a senior, few people started working as young as I did and or worked so hard. I take Sundays off because it is important that we take a break and regenerate self and not have burn out. Pierre is the single biggest threat to Trudeau in a long time, and Trudeau knows it. He is a politician that can think and talk on his feet better than anyone else in the Conservative party which would make him a formidable opponent against Trudeau and his list of talking points he holds with conviction. Although Scheer was able to get the popular vote, him and O'Toole didn't seem to inspire Canadians, let alone their own party. I hope Pierre doesn't push too firmly into a hardline conservative approach and extends an olive branch in some form to voters across the aisle. His stances on taxes, inflation and other economic issues are good, but I'd hope he'll refrain from the common right wing blunder of calling everything he is against "woke", that alone is enough to signal to disenfranchised liberals and left-centrists that you're part of the right-wing tribe, and not someone to reconcile differences of thought between the party bases. Conservatives could easily win if they drop the attack dog name-calling and conspiracy theories and stick to clean rationales and highlighting every ethics scandal that's plagued the Trudeau government, and offer the ethical small government solution. Trudeau's government will slander anyone who disagrees as a racist, sexist, transphobe, etc, not matter what the original criticism was. The Conservatives can look like the sane rational party if they stick to substance and stray away from the fluff and pitiful attack ads.

Wade decision was leaked in the U.S. and has not spoken up since to defend abortion rights. He has never discussed the steps he would take to improve abortion access across Canada, such as through more rigorous enforcement of the Canada Health Act to ensure abortion care is available in every region of Canada. A current Lead Now petition with over 20,000 signatures is calling on the Conservative Party leadership to affirm its support for access to abortion and reproductive services. He recently claimed to be pro choice, but Poilievre has a generally right-wing voting record on other issues, as indicated by Campaign Life Coalition. He was an opponent of same-sex marriage until publicly changing his stance at exactly the same time he switched from anti-choice to pro-choice. He has recently supported the Freedom Convoy and opposed COVID-19 vaccine mandates (thus not supporting the medical community, scientists and the government) , and appears to still oppose the right to medical assistance in dying. WAY TOO FAR RIGHT leaning for most Canadians.
