Pierre Poilievre wins Conservative Party leadership race | FULL

- Voting has ended in Canada's Conservative party’s leadership election, and its members found out Saturday that Pierre Poilievre was the victor.
Ballots had to be received by a deadline of 5 p.m. on Tuesday in order to be processed, validated and counted in time for this weekend’s announcement.
The party is using a ranked-ballot system to choose its next permanent leader among five hopefuls: Pierre Poilievre, Jean Charest, Leslyn Lewis, Scott Aitchison and Roman Baber.
With Patrick Brown’s name still on the list despite his disqualification in July, the party says anyone who puts him first on their ballot will see their vote transferred automatically to their second choice.
Poilievre becomes the fourth permanent leader of the party, after Stephen Harper, Andrew Scheer and Erin O’Toole.

While, family is, important, there is no family without other people in society contributing to it. If you want to 'screw society' then you can go take your family, build everything yourself, to live off the grid. Build the homestead, find and filter the clean water, grow your own food, and even though you will need other human beings that produced and distributed goods and services for you, you could eventually life completely off the gird and stop paying for the capitalist system to keep killing the spirit of society. Unfortunately, capitalism will keep destroy the life support systems on Earth, so you will only be so safe living with just your family off-the-grid as the environmental collapse is already starting and very few places on Earth will avoid it if the system itself does not change.
If you care about your family and the future, a better option would be to join with other like-minded people, who understand system change is what is needed. We don't have to accept living in a sick, unstable socio-economic system if we don't want to. There are plenty of people who care about a better world, but they have a lot of capitalist propaganda to break out of to see that there are viable alternatives we can build, demand and install to create a more humane and healthy system for ourselves and future generations.
We've been living in barbaric "Man's Law" systems for too long. About time we start changing to Natural Law and a resource based economy, with applied technical efficiency to create functioning self-sustaining communities that leave no one out and make problems like poverty, politics, war and debt obsolete.

Communism, by definition, if it ever happened, would be where the people in the community own all the property and it is distributed according to each person's needs.
I'm no fan of Trudeau, no fan of any politician. Why would you be a fan of people who are puppets for the ruling class, unless you, too, are part of the ownership class? But if you think Trudeau is the real problem, and not the unsustainable socio-economic system of capitalism, then you are unaware of the truth of the matter.
Don't you want to live in a future sustainable and healthy society? That would be one where the basic needs of the community are designed to be maximized for efficiency and gradually eliminate the need for labor-for-income, any form of debt, taxes or political control. We can do that, viable alternatives exist. But, it's simple thinking to imagine just scratching a ballot every few years is going to make meaningful change when the flawed system still remains.
I’m a truck driver and I was in Ottawa. I will vote for you and I think every Canadian should do the same. Please represent the working men and women that keep this country moving. Start with our senior citizens and our veterans. Our indigenous people our farmers our truckers our health care workers teachers and everyone else that make Canada what it is. Thanks for your support in Ottawa. We haven’t forgotten it. 😁👍🏼

@@Mrlaughingforme like all countries the primary influence is the incentives of monetary-market capitalism which include to maximize profit, use competitive self-interest for gain and infinitely grow. Those are all unsustainable structural incentives that any PM of Canada is going to follow. More of the means of production will be in the hands of private companies for profit. That’s the capitalist way and Pierre certainly wants more of that.
It’s not PM change that Canada (and the world) needs most it’s full system change to make politics, poverty, and debt obsolete.

Congratulations to Pierre Poilievre. I'm happy he won and hopeful for the future. I like the way he thanked and built up all of his competitors for the leadership race, as well as their partners. It was a nice unifying touch. That is the kind of personality that is needed to help win over as many undecided voters as possible for the next Federal election.

I believe he will do what he says. Lower the cost of living for us by dropping the carbon tax. Bringing down the cost of housing. Dropping the cost of fuel. Which everyone should know. Dictate’s the cost of everything else. He comes from a working class background. And has worked for a living. Not like silver spoon Trudeau. Who never worked a day in his life. He wouldn’t know how to put gas in his car. I’m sure he’s never been inside a grocery store. Can’t imagine Trudeau pulling weeds or taking out the trash. Sorry, bud, but you are only looking surface level. That's not where the problem lies. The problem lies in the root of the social system. Capitalism is socially, environmentally and economically unsustainable. Politicians are just puppets to prop up and keep capitalism running and hopefully distract the public from the systemic problem, so they can keep their power. Don't fall for that.
A better system would be one that is designed, guided by natural law, not Man's Law, and moves to improve technical efficiency to the maximum for meeting all people's needs. If that is done, we can evolve to a new system where poverty, politics, war and debt or taxes are obsolete. Unless, you still like labor-for-income as a remaining slave-like mechanism for control.

We have time, we have the technical capacity, but do we have enough people willing to stand up for what is right? I thought people cared about a sustainable future? Are you aware that there has been A LOT of capitalist propaganda over the last 120 years aimed at making people feel they need to consume more and more, never be satisfied with what they have, feel hyper competitiveness is necessary for economic survival and actual reject social supports and sustainability and some sort of weakness? Yeah, it's happening still.
There was a real, actual conservative ethic back in the early 1900s where things were made high quality, due to the industrial revolution machines that could produce with abundance and less human labor, people were beginning to have what they needed and take care of them, repair them if need be and were content with that local-based existence. But, that wasn't good for the capitalists and profits. We could have gone down to 3-day work weeks and everybody would have more time to spend with family and friends - but lots of anti-communist propaganda went out to make people scared. Few people even know what communism is. If it ever actually happened it wouldn't be a small group of government officials making decisions, it would collectively the community owning and controlling the means of production without private dictatorships. Now, we have private dictatorships all over and people think that is better somehow? Wow, propaganda works. Sadly, it works, because people in groups are scared to go against the status quo for fear of being alienated.
If you don't know it by now, we are on a speeding train headed towards an ecological, economic and social cliff and the driver is monetary-market capitalism. It's not getting better for the vast majority of humanity if we stay on this track and especially if we keep pulling levers to make it go faster.
We do have options. We can slow down the train and divert course to another direction that is headed towards health and sustainability with a post-scarcity economy. What direction do you want to help us go? I'm on the side of better health and sustainability for humanity.
