- The original Iron Within just released on Warhammer+ by Games Workshop.
The Visual Quality of Iron Within is top notch, the script, editing and sound mastering is very much substandard Games workshop quality.
The original edit is all over the place and the music is ruined, so I re-edited this scene together to streamline the action and hopefully improve it overal.
-Editing/cutting the shot sequence and flipping shots horizontally for consistency
-Boosting the music
-Boosting bolter sounds

Iron Within, originally a fan animation by the name of Codex was bought by Games Workshop two years ago. It is now finally released on Warhammer Plus.
But greedy Games Workshop couldn't help but botch it again.
What did they do to botch this one up this time? I've not seen an iron warriors animation in years since what GW did a fee years ago.

Its true that Iron Warriors are not your run of the mill heretic that goes around screaming and waving the eight point star banner but you SHOULD be able to see that they are chaotic in nature
@@SIGNOR-G keep in mind some Guardsmen are kept very much in the dark about traitor marines. Only high officials know about traitor astartes but common folk don't even know they exist and Iron Warriors are the most tactical and less blood and skulls looking

If they knew that some of the emperors children had BETRAYED the emperor, they might question the emperors will and that would be treason and heresy.

@@SIGNOR-G it could be possible that if a Astra Militarum regiment is not expected to fight any Chaos marines the Imperium may not even give them information that such forces even exist. At least to the general populace, an astartes turning traitor is unthinkable due to the constant propaganda and misinformation that the bureaucracy of the Imperium spreads. In the book, “Night Lords” when a Rogue traitor was being attacked by traitor Astartes, not once did he think they were betrayers of the Imperium, he simply was confused about the events happening around him before he died.
The worst part for that last guardsmen was the fact he thought the other two got shot for dereliction of duty or not paying proper respects to their saviors, so he's thinking oh I got to pay my respects to the sons of the emperor never knowing these were not the ones to be doing that to.
I also like the fact that the Iron Warrior was staring for a little while as if considering it. Because though they maybe traitors they are not into the whole Demon and God crap, just a bunch of Atheist's hating the Emperor and what he built. And finally decides to 'ah fuck it' and bonks.

I love how professional the Iron Warriors are in this part they show they are experienced and elite and it’s nice to see that instead of them just charging a enemy fortification in some massive battle
The best chaos marine
Um they're not World Eaters so yea you don't see retard marines but actually an organized unit of space marines killing Eldar with efficiency, though not as quick like the Subjugators in Astartes, they give a different taste on how marines work
What I like the most are shields
It makes since they’d use this tactic pre or post heresy it’s the most effective tactic to use against the Drukari in this situation and they make great use of it
I agree BUT.. since when are eldar slower than terminators and miss shots on stationary targets?

Technically they're supposed to advance under cover. So they should do a wave-step or something.

@@Scarletraven87 the eldar didnt come out, the iron warriors dont waste bullets, they waste their enemies. i loved how brutally efficient and cold that shit was. just like in astartes, they are cold, well trained combat automata. they are so precise and drilled that they dont seem human. no dumb one liners. so many of the best 40k animations or cuts have no lines at all.

Looked like pity to me; from what I've heard the Iron Warriors aren't huge Chaos worshippers, just anti-Imperium to the end, like really passionate renegades. Might be why he just slapped the guardsman aside instead of obliterating them with a bolter shot, at least they can still have a nice burial instead of being literally getting mopped up

@@TheHereticalPainter I doubt their neck was broken, that was more of a slap then a punch and you can tell their neck was still pretty straight , all chances they got knocked out for few hours, which most likely saved them. Iron warriors would not care and dark eldar only want take the living, lucky bastard was able to sleep through all of this and most likely got promoted.

I like how this is the second time in officially published lore that the Iron Warriors have shown up to stomp some xenos that are brutalising baseline humans. They have Older Brother syndrome, ‘no one but us gets to torment Imperial citizens!’

I love how dark the battle was, I couldn't make out what kind of chapter it was until I got a closer look to the Iron Warriors decal. I can imagine the guardsman having the same feeling of hope seeing astartes at first glance

That being said, for all its faults, that was a great representation of an Iron Warriors breacher team. Slow, methodical and when the shield drops the music stops.

@Brightest Light agreed, most competitive lists run at least one shredder which in lore could tear a hole through most line defenses easily.
Also Eldar don’t move like humans, they are faster and more graceful.

@@jacobpeterson4071 the title literally says "Iron Within" and you expected it to be a Guard vs Drukhari fight? In case you don't know, Iron Within is a warcry from the Iron Warriors legion, "Iron Within, Iron Without". So naturally, of course they were going to be the main focus.

It was originally a fan animation about the Iron Warriors pre-heresy, but then got bought by GW who changed the focus to be on the imperial guard in the 41st milennium. So Jacob Peterson is not far off the mark

One of the Hammer and Bolter ones had them too ... they were fighting Black Legion there
The Angels of Death prequel also had them, and they acted just as out of character there as in here.

It's great to see the Iron Warriors look so competent and capable, advancing forward behind their shields like a wall of iron. Not so great seeing Kabalites stupidly die in droves but I guess that's what the Eldar are around for. Still a cool animation.
Well, I mean, Dark Eldar raids are noted to be planned down to minute details, so when things go wrong, things can go very wrong. But at the same time, they do also have ressurection tech
Most Kabalites have struck a deal with a Haemonculus and respawn anyway - so this was just like them playing an average match of a Battle Royale.
The iron warriors are the most competent of all the traitor legions they were getting stuff done during the heresy while everybody else was just screwing around with their own Petty vendettas Peter turbo was breaking holy Tarra defenses

All in all, I like to think that the Iron Warrior who killed the guardsmen was pretty merciful. He killed them efficiently, and before they really realized what was going on.

I think that last Guardsmen survived that hit wasn’t brutal as in the Astartes project. It looked like he was just knocked out of the way.

The iron warrior at the end was surprisingly kind for killing the guardsman quickly.

I like that Iron Warrior isn't as "Traitor" looking as the rest of the traitor chapter, they just hate the Imperium so much they betray their comrade without resorting on some corruption (i think?).
they have some corruption, in that they work with Chaos undivided but treat Daemons and possessions as just another cog in their war machine, they just another asset to be use against their enemies. ie. where they summon daemons just to capture them and force it to possess weapons and become daemon engines etc.
There's a scene in the Angel Exterminatus book where the Emperor's Children army and Iron Warriors army are stood side by side. The Emperor's Children start going into their deranged Slaaneshi antics and the Iron Warriors are just staring like "What are they doing?"it's still during the heresy but it shows the rules destment for chaos like you said. Perturabo also always had his head in the game too.

Perturabo was really the one doing the heavy lifting majority of the time, and only decided to call quits when its clear that even Horus is losing it near the end

That advance was hard af. The terminator not giving a damn about enemy fire and setting the pace of a methodical advance. That is how astartes should be combat experience out the ass and the intimidation factor to match.

I’d recently been reading a lot about how despite being heretic Astartes The Iron Warriors maintained much of their pre-heresy battlefield tactics and resolve and are not typical of how one would consider a Chaos faction to behave…Honsou’s particular brand of debauchery aside 😂 To see it in official animation is excellent.
Iron Warriors just dont like the emperor and the empire because they consider 'the emperor do not appreciate us enough'. But their business ends there. They dont like the Demons or the gods. They are just them. Which makes them a really interesting.
It's more like they retained their pre-heresy legion-vibe but adopted several parts of Chaos to use to their advantage with minimal drawbacks. They use daemonengines for example, which are basically enslaved daemons forced into metallic bodies to fight things. Being in proximity to them definitely corrupts you in some way, but they have their own particularly strange brand of corruption.

I love how freaking disciplined the iron warriors are depicted in this. They may be my favorite chaos space marine legion after this.

They have always been clean. They take pleasure in killing fists, not tormenting people. I wouldnt even call them a chaos legion. Then again, I wouldnt call Nightlords a chaos legion either, but they do like to torment.

The guardsmen are all of us. The reality of that universe shows that almost nobody who is into 40k would even survive selection for astarties recruits. Im an ex-infantry combat veteran, and even at my physical peak, many years ago, i would struggle to make it into any specialized guardsmen unit… i might make it into the guard, but i suspect most of us would just die a slow and lonely death praying to the god emperor. On an unnamed battlefield, on a forgotten planet, in a fight that doesnt even get a passing mention in any of the lore.
I like how a lot of Chaos Space Marines are still loyal to the tenants of the great crusade to some degree, so they have no issue with deviating from their original objectives to beat up a few xenos even if its out of pure spite .
Not necessarily what they were doing here. They came to "reclaim" this planet that they supposedly conquered during the Great Crusade after the planet sent out a distress signal

I like the fact the terminator stood in the middle with no concern for damage. Lore vs table top terminators is where it’s at
That is because Terminator armor is near unbreakable, and is essentially as tough as a Titan
I love how tge iron warriors are portrayed in this. It shows they are veterans of the long war and battleharded that not even drukhari can match them.

The Iron Warriors need a redemption arc! The pause before killing the guardsmen is very telling, like he remembers the days when he was part of humanity.

I'm sure the Guardmen saluting that Iron Warrior confused the absolute fuck out of him for a couple of seconds because I doubt even their own Axuilla forces from the great crusade even saluted them, let alone doing it willingly
The Iron Warriors in their element: Carrying the team since M30.
And this is why space marine breacher squads are so damn terrifying. A lead wall, marching towards you, guns bristling from every gap.
Despite being traitors to the Imperium, sliding with chaos, the iron warriors still show that they don't always need daemons to do the dirty work.
Many of the traits that define the tactics of the guard in the 41st and 42nd millennium, such as the treatment of soldiers as an expendable resource, a focus on slow gains in ground, and the reliance on armor were penned by Perterabo ten thousand years earlier.
I like this methodology. Just goosebumps from how the Space Marines do attack, step, attack, repeat. Something reminiscent of the tactics of the Roman legions, although not surprising.
Emp didn't name em the Legiones Astartes for nothin.
Honestly that's probably the best way for a guardsmen to go out when theres drakari and traitor astartes running around. Just a quick slap and lights out

I do see what you mean about GW's meddling, a bit like Astartes...sounds are off for no reason. Even with the boosting, i think the bolters are a bit off.
The bolsters sounded weak as hell. Astartes did it much better😔 this wasn’t bad but GW has yet to make anything on the level of Astartes which is a damn shame.
Admittedly, I thought they were Iron Hands at first. Then I noticed the Terminator had tusks.
I love how they’re wearing MK2 Crusade pattern armour and MK3 Iron mixed
I am new to Warhammer but the IV legion immediately stood out for me.
Told Horus to stuff it, told the chaos gods to shove it and told the corpse emperor to drop dead.
All the while maintaining their impeccable martial prowess and non chaos corrupted bodies.
I think most people complaining about the way the Eldar were picked off so easily weren't giving a full examination of the situation. Their raids are meticulously planned, and with an interruption this big they do not adapt as quickly as you would like to think.
In addition, Drukhari do not do well needing to assault heavily-armored targets across open ground on foot, and you will note that the Iron Warriors placed their shield line in the middle of a very open area, playing to their enemy's weakness.
My main gripe about the scene is that almost none of them attempted a snap shot before they went down. It's not that their deaths were particularly unrealistic, but rather that they seemed to stop fighting back altogether until they got onto their boat.
Plus they didn’t know that the planet had a pack with the Iron Warriors.
This was pretty interesting and in my opinion, pretty well done.
What surprised me was that the Iron Warriors actually honoured a distress call from the Imperials even though it’s 10,000 years later. I thought any promises or agreements were null and void because of the heresy

I don't think it was 10,000 years ago, they made an agreement when they took some people to turn into marines. It just makes sense to keep a manufacturing base under your service, better still if they don't even know they've been tricked
@@bajscast no it happened during the crusade, the Drukhari leader mentions how long it’s been since then and what happened, so it was definitely an IW world brought into compliance

@@Ducktor i just find that many traitor chapters relied on kinda weak or stupid motivations.
Horus was basically played by chaos gods, mortarion wasn't even willing to give the legion to Nurgle, night lords and iron hands acted out of mere personal bitterness (and the latter are involved with daemonculaba).
The ones i like more are Fabius Bile (who doesn't care about chaos gods and merely wants personal power, with science being just a mean to an end) and World Bearers (the first ones to betray, the only true believers that knew that you cannot erase the need for divine that's imprinted in humanity)
