Shoutout to the Emperor for making the spines of Astartes so sturdy, because without that the Iron Warriors would be crippled after CARRYING the Heresy on their backs.

@@Earlybird86 Without them, it's fully possible the heresy would never have touched down on Terra or broken through the walls. Probably more than half of the significant battles of the heresy were coordinated by Iron warriors and there were iron warriors participating in most of these battles. Ironically without the Iron Warriors two loyalist primarchs would be dead and the Crimson Fists (capable and compassionate successor chapter of the Imperial Fists) would never be formed but the galaxy wouldn't have tyranids to deal with. If you're interested to look into this further check out Barabas Dantioch. Strong contender for favourite character of the heresy and that means he's directly competing against Sanguinius.

@EarlyBirdZack The other traitor primarch either lost their minds or got wrapped up in the power of chaos. I really think the only ones moving with any sense outside of murder, skinning and what not was Perturabo, Horus and Mortarion near the end.

They're so metal that even the daemons of the warp are just mere tools for them. I would say that the Iron Warriors would be thinking of ways to enslave even the Tyranids or Necrons if given the chance.

His Legion got a bad hand... Their father turned them from their redeeming qualities that made them human. Perturabo was a machine of a man. And he molded his warriors to be just like him.
Horus would have acheived nothing without Perturabo, such tragedy they have been turned... imagine the fortressworld Dorn and Perturabo would have build... Even the damn tyranid horde or the biggest waaaagh would have been crushed to dust !
4th and 7th Together...Nothing, not even the Kroks themselves, could crack Terra.

I found my legion, i found my calling. Everyline line, it resonates with in me. Especially in these moments of my life I need these philosophies of this stoic warrior to tide me in this fucked moment of my life.
IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
The iron warriors are true warriors, I maybe a starting grey knight... But the iron warriors have won my respect, they've won my praise. Though they maybe traitors, they stayed true to humanity, not to turn into daemons, not becoming mindless worshipers... They choose to keep their humanity, over becoming monstrous, demonic, degenerates... They fought, killed, lost, tricked, used... But continued on their own path. They don't take gifts from the "gods of chaos" they are strong without them... Through it all, they have remained strong... I maybe a starting grey knight, but I respect them for everything they've been threw, the loses they've faced, the faces of the many they killed, but they've proven even now that they have iron within... I'm proud to say this in their honor for their tragedies, their hard ships, their tenacity...

"We bled for an Emperor and an empire that regarded our blood with less than contempt." Out of all the lines in this masterpiece, that one hits home the hardest. I understand his disappointment and bitterness.
I feel like all fans of warhammer see a faction and are like "oh yeah, those are my guys/gals" and for me thats the Iron Warriors, I don't really know why, I just think that industrial aesthetic is just so cool with big guns and heavy armor, not to mention "Iron Within, Iron Without" is one of my favorite quotes from the setting to the point I'm considering getting it tattoo'd

Both a 4th wall breaking and a nod to the iron warrior actually playing wargames while off duty.
The 4th Legion easily could be an entirely independent chapter, separated from both the Imperium and Chaos.
There are quite a few Renegade Chapters that fight both against the Imperium and Chaos (many will eventually fall to Chaos though), some of them even wanting to protect the humans from both organisations' depredations, while others are just maniacs that fight against all, and everything inbetween.

Apparently, in the Dornian Heresy fan fiction story, since Gulliman would never join Chaos but couldn't stay with the Imperium, he left to form his own empire of Ultramarines.

It wouldn't be impossible that a warrior movement would grow around the Fourth, weary of the misuse, bending only to the Iron Truth, drawing in elements of every unit and Chapter, becoming a Crusade in its own right, bane to Chaos and fanaticism alike, breakers of chains, a quiet (and not-so-quiet) revolution.

There already kind of is, since the Iron Warriors merc bands in the 41st millennium fight harder against their fellow chaos marines than the Imperium, many of which reject the chaos gods completely.

The Iron Warrior's are probably one of the saddest stories in 40K. They were potentially one of the most capable and centred Legion's, but had the misfortune of serving under perhaps the most fickle and petty of the Primarch's. They could never please Pertuarbo, they could never live up to his insane expectations, nor could they achieve their potential under him.
Yes, many agreed with the sentiment of rebellion because they saw themselves as unappreciated and deserving of more than they had been given (again, largely due to Pertuarbo constantly telling them this), but they likely would have stayed loyal long enough to gain the recognition they so desperately craved.
If anything, many of them fundamentally were closer to the Emperor's ideals in the Traitor Legion's than any but perhaps Fabius Bile, who is closest to the Emperor in terms of what he strives for (and deeply respected the Emperor's ability and goal even if he fought against it), but is obviously extremely corrupted.
Same, traitor or not, they've won my respect...
The Empire and the other primarchs had no respect for the IV Legion. Their mistakes were pointed out, but their victories were ignored.
What did they expect?
Perturabo saved his legion from being sacrificed in vain in pursuit of the Corpse-Emperor's dream.
Again traitor or not, they've won my respect and you can't help but feel for them...
Peturabo is complicated.
He isn't fickle for no reason.
He was a visionary, builder, inventor and he was reduced to engineer of war.
Every design of beautiful buildings, gardens, etc. was tossed aside.
It broke him.

It's so ironic how the iron warriors are the only legion to actually follow the imperial truth the Emperor wanted all of mankind to follow. There are no gods to worship, only the superiority of mankind.

I listen to this every single day. I recite the litany to myself everyday as I train. I remind myself that there is iron within my blood every moment of my life. Yeah actually the first to fall to Nurgle of all legions was the Luna wolves. They actually brought the warp storm to Perturabo and said that there was a throne for the lord of Iron but he refused. He eventually teams with typhus to make the Nemesis Wyrm to attack forge world metallica and he creates a techno virus for the obliterator cult if memory serves

Great narrative! If Perturabo had trusted a primarch like Jagathai or Vulkan... Interestingly, it was Perturabo who built the stadium for Ullanor's victory. He, the great architect, reduced to building an arena instead of being n grandiose buildings... The paranoia of Perturabo with the indifference of the emperor led this legion on the road to damnation. Btw it’s the only legion who stick faithful to the Imperial Truth… Sad…
Even worse, Perturabo built the amphiteatre of Nikaea... He didn't knew what for... Didn't liked it, not even a bit, Magnus was the closest of his brothers
I always thought the 'iron without, iron within' was a bit lame, but after listening to this I understand and love it. The 4th was betrayed by everyone and everything they were promised, despite their valorous efforts they were left with one certainty: iron

I’m gonna be honest. I know I shouldn’t agree with them but something about this really spoke to me. The idea that there is no point to hoping and that anything worth while will only come from pain and determination and sacrifice is oddly comforting. The idea that with sacrifice and determination anything is possible is a strange form of hope. It’s less like a dream and more of a promise. I know it wasn’t intended but this was the pep talk i needed. Thank for this.

That genuinely is why i love the iorn warriors they may seem brash and simplistic at first but if you actually look at them in a more introspective way not held down by the propaganda of gw to make the loyalists always have the high ground they are genuinely interesting characters full of people who rose from hardship

I just love the Iron Warriors for the fact that don’t obey neither god emperor, neither chaos gods. They know who they are and don’t let their spirit die or fade.
Out of all the legions the iron warriors are my favorite. Say what you will about perty in my opinion he should've been recognized, he should've been rewarded for his ability to destroy. Instead he was cast aside for someone who was pretty and could talk nice and keep his composure.

Unbreakable litany to me is the greatest usually when wounded said to remind iron warriors what/who they are the Unbreakable sons of the lord of iron and as such they must hold strength, will, faith and honor to truly have iron within iron without

When you think about it, the Iron warriors are the true space marines to me, they reject worship, they reject mutations, they may not be with the imperium, but now it basically spits on everything they knew. The only reason I can see perturabo become a demon is either because the writers were lazy with him or thought they all had to because chaos... I want them to become their own faction aside from chaos just chill out somewhere and become a seperate human empire where Iron reigns.
The greatest Irony is that they are exactly what the Emperor wanted.
There’s just something about using conventional warfare, attrition, and raw strength just because you hate everything and everyone in an era where it’s not entirely necessary that i love about the 4th legion. Best example is you could use scouts and aircraft to probe enemy defenses but instead you just send prisoners and civilians forward to their deaths instead to get the same results
The more i know of the 4th Legion the more i respect and love them.

Iron within iron without it would have been interesting to see the 4th and purturabo not turn demonic while also not staying loyalist like going off there own way to form a ronin legion. To me it was lazy to turn purturabo demonic even tho don’t know if he fully is but from little things I’ve heard around about him it just spits on what his character is but I mean they turned mortarion into a demonic phycer so what the hell lmao.
