The line between PG and PG-13 were a little blurry back in the 80s and 90s. 😂 There was a lot more adult humor in kids movies than today.. that’s mainly because they wanted parents to enjoy the show too. You could even see that in 90s cartoons. It’s One of the reasons those were the greatest, most memorable cartoons ever made. 😂

I watched this when I was six-years-old, lol. And then I watched it 999+ times afterwards. My mom and I loved it and it felt like a kid movie (despite a lot of stuff that wouldn't be OK these days). But most kids loved the vibe, awesome music, Lydia was like my idol for years, and of course: Beetlejuice. Not sure you know what a wild performance that was from Michael Keaton AKA THE GOAT BATMAN.

You gotta remember, ratings are not a blanket statement. PG doesn't mean "ok for kids", it means "Parental Guidance - some material may not be suitable for children". As in "there's stuff in it you may or may not want your kids to watch, but nothing crazy". As in parents actually have to do their job and see if what's in it (which is included in the rating) is OK for their kids. When I was growing up, usually we were allowed PG movies around 10/11+ after the parents looked into the movie, and once we were 13 PG movies without much looking into, but then PG-13 got the "parents looked into it first" treatment. I saw an R movie when I was 10 with my parents (Alive, it wasn't my idea lol). And that's because my parents did what parents are supposed to and found out *why* it was rated R (no nudity, like 5 swears, it's mostly due to the subject matter is pretty dark, and some cannibalism).

$300 sheets, you’d be surprised at the difference. It’s the thread count mostly. Next time you’re at the mall, go to the linens department, they usually have samples of the different fabric for the sheets they sell. You should go check out the difference, it’ll make you want new sheets. But they come in a variety of thread count so there’s always something for everyone’s budget.

Back in the 80s & early 90s they were a little bit more lenient on movies/TV. PG13 was just introduced in 1984 for guidance after "Indiana Jones & Temple of Doom" came out, so this movie was right at PG for our time. Also the actress who played the daughter is the mom, Joyce, from Stranger Things
(On my daughter's account) I remember watching this as a child and being allowed to do so. I loved it! Watching it now as an adult I realize things were so much different for me growing up than they are for this generation. 😂😂
This was the 80s, it was more boys will be boys accepted attitudes back then, so lots of innuendos existed in movies that were considered kids movies. If you didn’t understand the jokes (like my little innocent Christian self back then) then those jokes went right over your head. But adults got them. This might have come out before PG-13 existed. The movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is the first PG-13 movie. Winona Ryder was in a lot of movies in the 80s and 90s, which is why they cast her in Stranger Things, because that show uses a lot of 80s movies influences.

I did a paper on the special effects in art school, all stop motion puppets and blue screen, and practical costume effects. It’s such a work of art!
I love how the effects in the sequel at least looked the same as the original, if not made the same way.
