yes, it was very good. and i was impressed with her depth of research (of the games tests, and other tests they ran before the hotel) and her ideas on how it COULD have been an over the top experience. However her spot on analysis of the business challenges, really should have killed this hotel before it even started. unless they just wanted a tax write off.

@@orbitalair2103 A company can only take a tax write off if it spends the money (though some accounting grey area exists). Then it just means a portion of revenue they don't pay taxes on. Essentially Disney spent hundreds of millions to build a LARP hotel. However, they can't count that as an expense because they got something of value out of it: a profit generating hotel. It wasn't until they shut it down could Disney write off some of the costs of building the LARP hotel, which saved them some money on taxes... but not nearly as much as they spent on the thing initially.

I'm old enough to remember investigative journalists, the people whose job it was to dig up information and report the facts. I had thought they had all died out until I discovered Nicholson's videos. The fact that she can speak for 4 hours about a topic, and have it be entertaining, and have millions of views for such a long video, AND have that video covered by the New York time, speaks volumes about her abilities as a writer and even an entertainer. If you haven't watched her stuff, please go check them out. You won't be disappointed.

Her best observation in the whole video was when she said, "The Starcruiser offered just enough content to fit in a TikTok video." I guarantee that's what the short-sighted idiots at Disney were thinking. "All we need to do is give the Tik Toker's content and it'll work!" Glad I didn't waste the money.

I think her best point was that this severely overpriced hotel didn't offer the service and quality of even a basic cheap hotel. Plus is never could have been profitable. And that is mind blowing. If you run the numbers, there is no way this project could have ever worked. It is too expensive to operate, too expensive to draw in guests, and too shallow of an experience to justify the price. Plus just a really poor hotel, and the experience barely worked.

Yes that right, Disney keep focusing way too much on the short-attention span, normies. When what they should be doing is actually focusing on simply making GREAT STAR WARS; if you show real love, devotion and care for the brand; i.e. if as a Exec and Producer/Boss, you just simply hire all the right people, talented individuals who are very good at their job AND love *Star Wars*; then if you simply just step back, don't Interfere and just let those people work their magic, you're going to end up with something special like Mando Season 2 and that end Finale episode.
It seems Disney were aiming purely for the rich, smug socialites and young clubbers types, who like to go to bars etc. That type only when they went about making their "Galactic Starcruiser". All the concept art shows this really. And those are not people who actually really love STAR WARS.
What Disney keep getting wrong here is they don't see or follow this saying it goes - "If you build it they will come."
This means basically if you take the time and care to actually craft some truly great STAR WARS. You havnt even got to specifically listen to us Fans, just *Listen* solely to the o.g. Creator who started it all. Invite George Lucas into your office and get advice from him, and the original teams of creative individuals he had around him.
IF Disney were to do that and just take that honest approach they would have had huge success from this IP by now.
But sadly, because Disney have this kind of indifferent attitude toward George, i mean he even said it in those interviews he did say - "they don't want me around" I mean that just says it all. And because Disney absolutely have this incredibly resentful and very spiteful attitude toward us Passionate fans; and i'm not talking about the casuals here. I mean the fans that know the Lore inside out, that have read most those oldskool EU books, that collect all the collector's merch, Hot Toys figures that would cost like $200-300, games, merch everything.
It these types of fans that Disney have this very antagonistic attitude toward. TLJ was absolute proof of that and just pretty much every decision Disney have made with this brand since.
Disney are like this toward us fans - "No, YOU people will like what WE GIVE YOU!! How dare you all not like how we made the Kenobi series! Infact, you're all a bunch of horrible, Racist people.
Sure, we could have made a mini series about the Reva character, and made her a compelling, original character with her own story to tell; a insightful indepth look, into the life of a Inquisitor, snatched from their Order as a child, and brainwashed, corrupted to the darkside by the Emperor, trained by Vader, someone who never even cared for the Inquisitors. And Reva could be a sympathetic character who always harbored designs to take down Vader.
But we're following wokeness here, because that's the way of things in Hollywood. This is about social engineering, and so we don't want you fans getting into actual, truly well written Black and Ethnic characters in the starwars universe. Because we need to keep everyone Divided, NOT come together ALL Loving a IP in unison.
Look here, we are the HOLLYWOOD ELITE, WE Dictate what the rest of you Peasants can like. You people follow and serve us with your $$$$ WE don't serve You!!
WE the Hollywood Elite tell everyone else what is Right and what is Wrong here. And we're NOT letting go of our power because that's all we have. We just want all you Older Fans gone, why don't you guy just F-off here! You're really screwing up our Fascist plans. We're trying Real hard to Brainwash and Condition the young minds, the 20 somethings and under into this ideology we keep pushing, and all you OLDER FANS keep standing in the way, Exposing us!
Just go away and let us carry out our designs on the younger generations. We had them ALL at The Force Awakens way back in 2015, and you older fans just had to screw it all up for us didn't you!
Well us Hollyweird Elite and at Disney, WE HATE YOU ALL!!!!!!
erm not you kids and teenagers though, we love you plz, come and taste the Rainbow. WE just want you younguns to come in and be what WE want you to be, Genderless, lacking any INDIVIDUAL THOUGHT and just Robotic; yes that's it, with your heads all shaved to one side, and multicolored hair, and using your pronouns like well trained puppets."
But really, that's Disney REAL Dark attitude and mentality, how they really see us Fans.
This is why us passionate Fans have to stay strong and keep doing what we're doing. Keep being a spanner in the works for Disney; by not Financially supporting anything of their "Disney Starwars", but instead keep sharing our honest thoughts and OPINIONS.
We don't need to even be crass or derogatory, no need to throw literally petty insults, but just keep winding Disney up and letting them dig themselve a deeper hole here.
Just look how much they've alienated themselves from even the Mainstream now, it's awesome to see.

Most or pretty much all the passionate fans have now fell into a state of serious apathy toward "Disney Starwars". They're the ones that wont watch anything now, and definitely not buy up any spending their good, hard earned cash on.
These fans just keep protesting how bad it all is, because they still love *Star Wars* itself and just want Disney to get the message that they need to fix up and start treating it properly, with respect; and just basically not interfere when they have good, talented Creatives like Jon Favreau who come in and actually try hard to make something awesome. Like we had for two seasons of the Mandalorian.

Even recently it's came out that main lead star Amandla Stenberg got paid less than some of her co-stars, that squid games dude and Manny Jacinto I think. Also many other male stars from the previous shows, the late Ray Stevenson, Ewan McGreggor and Pedro Pascal all got paid much more than Stenberg did; along with the lawsuit from Gina Carano and that Female Executive Producer who settled with Lucasfilm out of court over her not being paid right for her work on the Acolyte last year; this is not a good look for Disney at all. Disney doesn't like to share with authors. They hate giving residuals to anyone. This is partially why they're trying to bury the OT and Prequel era Star Wars as best they can in the future. It's why the made Luke and Kenobi into weak leads, and buried Anakin's sword at the end of "Rise of Skywalker." It was really a "Death of Skywalker". It's why they're very anti-Jedi as well. Why they can't mention Yoda anymore. They don't want to share residuals with Lucas. The sooner they can move on from it the better in their eyes. THIS is why they got rid of the EU. They don't want to share with Timothy Zahn. James Luceno, etc. They want to own the work.

This is similar or identical to why stuff in the new Star Trek (the Kelvin timeline, the weird Klingon look) is so bad, and is due to the 50% licensing rule between Paramount and CBS. Coincidentally enough the agreement has strict rules and agreements about toys too.

The comment you replied to is correct. Disney has to pay Lucas royalties if they use characters from the original trilogy or prequels. Apparently, the fans aren't as stupid as the executives at Disney, namely Disney CEO Bobby Iger and Lucasfilm president Kathy "the Cameraman" Kennedy.

I stopped developing my own Star Wars Trilogy, because I found myself rewriting the entire story just to fit into the lore of Disney's Star Wars. The Rise of Skywalker was the film that totally crushed me, because Rey's godlike abilities to Force-Heal totally eliminated any stakes that came before, during and after her completed story arc, whatever the hell that was. That was the moment I said "Screw Disney Star Wars. I'm done".

    • @RaikenXion

The only way to make a truly great Starwars Sequel Trilogy, is either to work purely off of George Lucas's own treatments, or to basically do Exactly what Rian Johnson did to the *Lore*, take his whole tactic of "Subverting Everything" and as you're writing your own story, you basically make sure to SUBVERT EVERY SINGLE DETAIL, of JJ's and Rian's ideas from their sequel movies.
E.g. where JJ stupidly decided to make a "Resistance" another underdog band of the heroes, going up against another "Empire" that somehow reformed itself as the First Order.
Instead you do the opposite to that and make the *New Republic* a massive, technological military that built itself up from the "Galactic Rebellion".
Another easy e.g. here is where Rian stupidly made Luke a coward, hermit who hid away while Snoke was out there and left his sister and friends at risk of the FO. Instead you "subvert" Rian's cynical idea, and make Luke a WISE, JEDI MASTER, who TRAINS his students; Not just Rey but Finn also, and builds them up to be ready to help him and his friends take on the "bad guys".
E.g. no.3 Instead of the dumb, lazy incompetent "First Order" *Subvert* that by coming up with a whole NEW THREAT to the Galaxy.
Also can I just say Rey suddenly turning the tables back on and outright defeating Kylo Ren in the first movie out the gate really destroyed any stakes, because it completely scuppered Kylo as being anykind of "threatening villain."
TROS just simply added to the problems that were already there previously, like Luke being a coward and Snoke getting killed off. Sidious being brought back also made it where there was no stakes at all, because if his physical body can be destroyed, but then all that keeps happening is his Blue Aura/Mist just comes out, and finds refuge in some other place out in the Galaxy, specifically within a cloned body; where are the stakes for such a villain there?? That basically means that Palaptine is immortal then.
Rey only has to show a moment of weakness at any one, single point and she's open for Sidious' blue mist/aura to inhabit her body and conscious.
Rian and JJ are simply both as dumb as eachother.

When they use the old characters they have to pay a licensing fee to Geroge Lucas and the original Lucasfilm. That's why they're so intent upon forcing everyone to like the new themes. The problem both with Starcruiser and Galaxy's Edge is that the idea is sound in concept. But instead of focusing on a large Star Wars theme park which could have been set in different Eras. Say like Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, New Republic, and TFA. Instead of fleshing it out more, they just buy scrapy hotel and slap lipstick on a pig. Only to call it Star Cruiser, and take a corner of Disney property, throw in the Millennium Falcon, create a 🐂💩 world naming it Baku, and BAM! You now have Galaxy's Edge.
This is the problem with Lucasfilm and Disney. They're Imagineers without any imaginative creativity.
Heads up if Disney wants to see a really good example of proper theme park or event? Wasteland Weekend in the Mohave Desert in California. It's practically a Mad Max Burning Man event. Plus 100% contributed by the community. Even fans bring out their own vehicle creations.

They made a hotel that first off looks spotlessly CLEAN, which ofcourse if you're staying in anykind of "themed Hotel" you're gonna want it to be, but that just went against the main aesthetic of what *Star Wars* has always been, the - "used future" where things look incredibly technological, with lights on buttons, etc but it's all got a fairly run down look to it; like it's been in service for ages.
I just think overall the hotel idea itself was a bad one. Especially what they had, a starcruiser where every room has to have fake windows, to simulate being in "space", which means computer screens running like 24/7, along with all the amenities, the bar, lougne etc constantly, daily, that's simply gotta cost a small fortune to run daily in energy bills. Not to mention a family or friends, literally saying in a room with no real windows; so again extra costs for the air-con too. All that drove the prices up immensely.
Anyone with common sense would know that whole idea just would not work, but hey this is "Disney" they live in their own bubble, and so obviously actually believed this attraction would draw in a whole slew of Celebs, and "Rich People" from the valley and wherever else; but again, that all comes from *Star Wars* actually being hella COOL and *Popular* and their Sequels simply were not lol.
What would have worked better would have been to just make the starcruiser a actual like attraction that the audience can take part in, or atleast more like their stage shows, and the audience just sit and kind of watch this whole feature theme, play sort of thing play out between the "Resistance & FO" attacking this big, starcruiser they're on. Something like that could have worked quite well and have the show last anywhere from say 1 hour to 1:30 mins maybe.

3:00 That's because way back around 20:15/16 as the plans were all set and construction had began on what would become the - "Galaxy's Edge" theme park, Bob Iger and the other Disney bosses and contractors had already originally planned to make their Starwars theme park based purely off of the 6-Movie George Lucas Saga Films; and that specific area and what you see there in those clips was originally meant to be Tatooine.
Apparently it was originally going to be much bigger and each area would be set from key places in George's 6 movies, but Kathy Kennedy got inside Iger's head and convinced him to scrap their previous plans, and just make it one big, original area set purely in the Sequels Trilogy era. Kathy's words were something like - "why aim your theme park at the 40s/50s older fans when you can make a new theme park set in your own movies, aimed just at all the newer, younger generation of fans."
The one thing Kennedy or Iger did not account for was what if their OWN (make it up as you go along) "Disney Starwars Sequels" were not a huge resounding success; instead they became mega Divisive, which is why that intended "new generation of younger fans" most of which have switched off and lost interest in the sequels era now. What was even dumb about "Galaxy's Edge" is that it's set specifically inbetween TLJ and TROS, with no real "backstory" that helps fill in gaps and gives fans and audience a good understanding of what took place in that single year between those two movies. Also doesn't help when you have a bad movie that most fans detest, and another messy, rushed movie that most just have no real vested interest in.
Overall it's really backfiring on Disney now where starwars is concerned, because most Fans have fell into complete apathy for the Disney starwars brand now, and this is only going to get worse when Kennedy's "Rey movie" rolls along.
Disney think they're going to be able to use the "Mando & Grogu* movie to ride somekind of wave of excitement and "good will" and draw the fans straight into their Rey movie; it's just not going to go like that their SOLO movie should have taught them that already. So again, this just shows how clueless and arrogant they are in Hollyweird town.

@@dlewis9760 I heard something about that a few years ago too, about how George would get royalties or something, but i'm not like business knowledgeable. Thing is thinking bout it, how does that even make sense when George sold his IP and whole Company to Disney?
I do think there has been somekind of spite gone on regards Iger and Disney overall, because Bob Iger had led George to believe through the Contract they signed, Iger would be abliged to use George's stories, and Lucas was of the belief that Iger would make films from his *Treatments* of episodes 7/8/9 and "Adapt" movies from the many stories he had of the *Expanded Universe*.
What's stupid here about how Disney handled all of this is when they acquired the *Star Wars* brand, they had a video-games producer/developer in George's - "LucasArts" and LA made some truly awesome and very creative starwars games back in the day.
All Disney really had to do was simply honor George by Faithfully adapting his treatments into solid sequel trilogy movies, with really good scripts/dialogue. If such movies were faithful to George's story ideas, EVERYONE would have loved them, us fans, the normies, critics and George. Disney would have simply been able to literally print $$$$$ by this point.
Then all they had to do was make their "starwars theme park" based off of the memorable locations from the PT and OT Films; and at a later point, just add more attractions which would be from new and original places from the adapted Lucas sequels movies they made.
With such successful Films that most everyone loved, this would then fuel their theme parks, also it would create a cascade affect, where Disney could then use the "LucasArts" division to make tons of video-games based off of their movies, as well as such things as BF series, "Fallen Order" etc. This would also drive tons of Merch and Toy sales for Disney.
The EU books, all Disney had to do was not cancel them, but allow authors to come in and write more stories set in the *EU Lore*, and Disney would only have to announce that the "Expanded Universe" will be considered a secondary Canon, like A-Canon for their movies, tv shows etc. And all the EU stuff would be catagorized as - B-Canon; that way they would still have all the oldskool fans onboard.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion หลายเดือนก่อน

@@officialmonarchmusic It's really just all about treating the IP, George the o.g. Creator and the Fans with respect and Disney would have stood to make a sh*t pot full of money from Starwars by now.
The fact Disney never did this, but went about it all backwards, and were way too focused on making everything THEIR OWN VERSION OF. Like e.g. they cancel the long running and successful "Clone Wars" animated series, just to replace it with something that's their own brand original series, but using the same animated style as George's CW. Which was called - "Rebels".
They shut down LA dev, when all that needed was maybe just a slight restructuring and it would have still made Disney $$$$. But no, instead they shut it down and License out the "Starwars" IP to other, big, greedy companies like EA.
They disrespect the "Legacy Characters", when really as soon as their first hired writer - "Michael Arndt" couldn't find a way to bring in iconic "Luke Skywalker" and not have him completely overshadow the new, original characters. They should have hired a really talented writer/director like Joseph Kosinski, who knows how to respect source material, and balance Legacy Characters with new generational characters.
Instead Disney doesn't know or care to do this, they're so motivated by "Profit" like Sharks to blood, they just rush in. Bob Iger was only interested in making his money back from acquiring "Lucasfilm" ASAP, that he came up with the strategy to make a new starwars movie every year. But making something as important as a - *Sequel Trilogy* to the hugely beloved, even sacred - ORIGINAL TRILOGY, is something that has to take time, that they simply can't rush into, but needs to be PLANNED and carefully Crafted.
But no, Iger didn't think like this, he and Kennedy just thought of the genius idea to draw back oldskool fans with loads of Nostalgia, making a "SAFE" first movie out the gate that would rely heavily on just copying, and rehashing most of the classic ANH movie. Then once they had the fans where they wanted them, and JJ had created this snowball affect of "Speculation" off of his "Mystery Boxes", Disney would have the absolute genius plan to pull the rug right from under those very same fans they had worked up into such a excited hype and expectation; by making a massively DIVISIVE and SUBVERTING second, Middle movie in Rian's TLJ.
And Disney's attitude and idea at that point was, they have the backing of the metoo movement, and so IF any Fan so much as criticizes their TLJ movie, that fan will be branded a "ist & phobe" by the mainstream media, and heavily attacked and shouted, shamed into liking it by the huge, angry "Intersectional Feminist Crowd".
For a company to take such a position and approach as that toward a franchise and it's long-term, loyal Fanbase, that shows not just absolute stupidity and even arrogance, but it shows that company had a "Agenda" in mind right from the very start.

The likely reason you don’t see the many of the old characters is because of the Disney agreement with George Lucas, they reportedly have to pay royalties for merchandising and non-cinema use of the old characters. A recent pattern I’ve noticed is that the names being picked for some of the characters and places seem to be less inspired and more random or tongue-in-cheek. For the Sequel trilogy, Finn is obviously so simple it’s generic. Cameron? No! Make that Poe Dameron! That’s quirky enough. Rey is a derivative from the Spanish equivalent of “king.”
Now with the Galactic Starcruiser, the Halcyon is an uncommon word in our lexicon but it doesn’t sound exotic. And the singer Gaya? A different spelling for the Hellenic Greek Earth Titan Gaia.
Finally with The Acolyte, the two main characters of Osha and Mae. The latter could’ve been pulled out of a fishbowl for all I know and as for the former, well there wouldn’t happen to be a government organization under the acronym of OSHA, would there?

It is refreshing that a mainstream media outlet took the time to actually do some journalism as opposed to the usual "istaphobe" criticism that someone with my skin colour and front bits would usually be instantly dismissed for by raising the EXACT same points. Disney has gone awry in their contempt for their PAYING fans. It has to stop. I hope that the fact that a young attractive woman fan has raised many points that are the same points that others have made publically (ie Critical Drinker, Nerdrotic SW Theory et al.) will give other mainstream outlets AND DISNEY ITSELF pause for thought before they wave away all criticism as the work of bots or nasty white racist woman hating men! People undervalued (my self included) the love and care the George Lucas and his team put into Star Wars. Once Disney took over, that went out the window. Star Wars isn't a beloved story that millions of people love and care about. It's a product to be sold and exploited in any way that is profitable. Add to this a political and social agenda that the large majority of the fan base despises, and you end up with a dead franchise, and a fan base that just doesn't care anymore.

While it is an incredibly detailed area, there is nothing from any of the original movies there, which to me shows how out of touch everyone is so out of touch with the franchise and they don't care or give a damn about the lore and canon of the franchise, as well as the fans. This really saddens me as someone who saw Star Wars in 1977 and is a die-hard fan. This crap just breaks my heart.
