bro music labels are so fucking annoying, genuinely, its like they go out of their way to make the listener's experience as inconvenient as possible, and acting like they dont make hundreds of millions every year when 0.2 seconds of a song is used, UMG made 12 billion USD in 2023 alone for simply owning the rights to songs and publishing them, its genuinely crazy

When you listen to the song and the sample used, I'd argue its changed enough to be its own thing, because its literally just a loop from a 15 second sample from Grace's original song. I didn't realise Beachwalk sampled "La vie en Rose," such a great choice of sampling. I'm quite fond of that song because I recall hearing Yae Miko's English voice actor singing it once and she actually fucking nailed it
hello, music producer here, ive done a quick but of research as i use samples a lot and know where to look, theres around 10 or so years left on the copyright of the lyrics and around 40 years left on the melody, copyrights can only be held until 70 years after the artist has died, the lyric writer (Édith Piaf) died in 1963 and the people who wrote the melody died in 1961 and 1991, it may be possible to obtain a license to sample it, but im unsure if sony own the rights to the original song, or if grace jones has a cover license and sony own the recording/mechanicals and therefore can claim any media that uses that recording, if you are willing to pay 100k like you say i can put you in touch with a very good music lawyer who who would almost certainly be able to get that song cleared, i dont think itd take that much, and sony might be unwilling to work with you or whitewoods as youve already made money off of it, but they may be willing to work with another artist and then if they have a remix/covers license that could sony out of the picture if they only own the rights to the grace jones version

Oddly enough, the Beachwalk music video does seem to have ads now. And some of your old videos (over 10 minutes) still have the Beachwalk outro, which to my knowledge have ads on them. Also most of your videos from 2016-2019 use a remix of Beachwalk made by Zen, which STILL got claimed despite in a way being a remix of a remix (more so a remix of a sample) The woman who made the song didn't put the claim, it just got automatically detected randomly.
