Bullerby syndrome (German: Bullerbü-Syndrom) is a term referring to an idealization of Sweden, which may occur in German-speaking Europe. It consists of a stereotypical image of Sweden, usually with positive associations, including wooden houses, clear lakes, green forests, elk, people with blond hair, happy people, and midsummer sunshine.
Fika isn’t actually having coffee with something sweet, it’s pastries with something else to drink. Fika is defined by the pastry, so when you say “let’s get Fika” you mean that you want a pastry and maybe something to drink. However when you say “let’s get coffee” you mean that you want to drink coffee, maybe with some chocolate, fudge or caramel. So yeah, Fika is defined by a pastry, getting a coffee is defined by the coffee.
Yup. And both blocs are just as quilty of selling out the nation.
@@wows2049 That is actually part of that issue though, what he's describing. We've literally had politicians saying that Swedes and Sweden has no culture. "What do we even have? Midsummer's Eve and other such silly things." "The old Sweden was only Barbarism, all the rest of it came from abroad." I'm not going to go on a huge tear about this, but I think those direct quotes from elected politicians speaking of the nation whose people they are supposed to represent speaks for themselves. Not only are they untrue as they are divorced from historical fact, they are also massively harmful both for native Swedes and those attempting to join our nation from outside.
@@wows2049 Mostly it explains why the OP has a good point. I might not 100% agree with it but there's truth in it. Also some people most definitely think about the politics, the United States for instance? China? Russia?
also clearly has never had to wake up at 6am and then spend 10 minutes scraping and defrosting and pushing the 20cm of snow off your car in the pitch black darkness while the cold wind whips at your face
“Fika” is “Sotarspråk” (chimney sweeper language) for coffe, it’s just “kaffe” (coffee) but reordered, “fe” changed placement with “ka” and so “Feka” but it sounds better to say “Fika”.
6:29 Bro I heard "I met Varg" and I was very confused until he elaborated lmao. Especially since he was talking about music just before (although now that I think about it the infamous Varg lives in France I think)
2:39 as a swede, it definitely isn’t. is it as often as it’s made out to be? definitely not. but it’s still very much something we do, often pretty regularly. it isn’t just coffee, it’s getting something to drink (tea, saft, juice, water, whatever you want) and a pastry, often with another person. if i want to invite a friend out for coffee, i say “let’s grab a coffee”, not “let’s have a fika” because they’re two similar yet slightly different things. it’s difficult to fully explain it in a way that may make sense, but the two are different,
Fika is a cultural thing. It's a moment to relax, step back from work, talk to friends or colleagues over a cup of coffee, tea, or saft with some sweet treats like biscuits or pastries. More countries should implement our fika culture tbh Also tax isn't 40%, it's 0% up to like 18k SEK, then ~32% from 18-55k SEK, then 50% on everything over 55k.
Why we say fika instead of coffee: Vill du gå och ta en kaffe? (Do you want to go have a coffee?) or Vill du ta en kaffe? (Do you want a coffee?) Vill du fika? (Do you want to fika?) It's shorter. Laziness wins out. Why use a noun and a verb when we can just turn the noun into a verb? It's amazing. Also, the word fika comes from coffee, so there's that. We took our loanword and its spelling for coffee from Turkish where I believe we first encountered it. And fika is simple kafi flipped. Kafi -> ka fi -> fi ka In the immortal words of Todd Howard: it just works.
I actually once was served rotten fish on a salted cracker before by a contact I knew who was a trained cook who told me it was just a little hors d'oevre. so I assumed it had to be good. he never told me however it was actually rotten... however I still don't know to this day if he actually served me Surströmming or just a random type of expired fish. Either way, seriously DO NOT eat this if you're not a seasoned culinary arts connoisseur... this stuff will make you throw up. I didn't but I probably would've if that taste stuck around 5 seconds longer.
The sponsor for the Darkwood video is Rockstar Games and Take-Two because it's coming as a program for GTA 6. All jokes aside, if I ever go to Sweden one day, something tells me I'll never leave.
lmfao, almost none of those speed fans in Sweden and Norway were Swedish or Norwegian. They were arabs and africans in Sweden and Norway, big difference.
the winters are nice in Sweden but that is if you even get snow. the part of Sweden i live in, we haven't seen real snow fall in like 15 years now, here its just grey and cold, Damn Skåne sucks sometimes. But at least our summers here is the best, 100% the most colorful out of the whole country
What people dont explain about Fika when talking about it is that it is a MANDATORY! You cannot NOT have Fika, so no its not like "Hey wanna grab a coffe". It is part of the daily work rutine and sometimes if ur feeling cheeky you have two fikas in one day :O
As a Swede Carlsberg is really good and much better then Norrlands guld. We have something called "Sverigebilden" or the swedish image where we put alot of money to ensure our image of Sweden is good. It's not that good if you are in the cities and everyone get's railed by the goverment.
Fika and having a coffee is littarly the same thing. Fika is bassically just the sweidsh word for "having a coffee". Most often with a cinnamon bun. To be fair the word fika most often refeares to the cinnamon bun... HOWEVER. Im pretty sure that it's possible to have fika with just coffee... Btw a Dalahäst is most often found in elderly peoples houses. The only one I know about is in my grandmas house. AND ALSO. The winter is sick. Im pretty confident that the winter is dissliked primarely of people in the south of sweden (where the cringe population lives... aka the majority) since the winter is kinda cringe down there. Almost no snow and when in is aka november they are somehow always chocked about it and then the trafic is KHAOS. Meanwhile the northern and better sweden does have a lot of snow and there is no problem at all. Also snowmobiles can actually be used and thats a mad 10/10
Why we say fika is cos we don’t always have coffee. We can have tea, saft, soda, chocolate, milk. So calling it coffee or tea feels wrong. English just dosn’t have the word for it. You call it coffee. We don’t. Coffee is what you have on the go. Fik you sit down and chill with your coffee and desert
