A little Irony is the 2016 Silverado is said to have the least amount of issues of any Full size pick up. If you want no issues just get a Toyota. They don't update nothing for years and all the kinks are worked out. If they updated more often they too would have more issues.

I love all brands of truck, so when I test drove al, the pretty loaded 1/2 tons all in one day the Tundra felt right. I now have 42,899 miles from towing my 24 foot loaded travel trailer to off-road use, no mechanical issues or electrical issues. Love my Tundra. I have added bilstein shocks with a 2 in lift and a Magnuson super charger along the way. No issues the truck runs smooth plus pulls my truck Thur the Idaho, Montana and Colorado pulling my trailer. Dirty Harry - First you wrote they “Chevy” now use the same material as Ford for its beds - aluminum? Than you say now they use really thin steel for their beds. So which is it aluminum or thin steel? Ok I will inform you that the Chevy pickup truck bed or box is made out of high strength steer which I somewhat thinner that the older 📦 box used. The GMC brand uses a carbon fiber box but it might be its only used on its interior portion of their box but I could be wrong. I like both Chevy or I should say General Motors pick up trucks + Ram and Toyota. I have worked for both General Motors Chevy Truck division and the Ford Motor Company as a chassis and engine engineer unless up retired from GM. Most people don’t realize all of the engineering that goes into building a vehicle of any type or brand. And they all have their not so good years and than they have their good ones. I am happy you shared this video as it made me feel better about the experiences we had with our 2008 Silverado. After spending 23 years of working as a mechanic for a Ford dealership, I had moved on as a fleet mechanic for a public utility that owned several Chevy pickups. I thought they were well built and stylish which led me to purchase a new Silverado for my wife. The truck was kept completely stock and well taken care of.
Shortly after we purchased the truck at our local dealership, they closed. The next closest dealer was 90 miles away. At 43,000 miles the transmission failed, losing all forward gears. I had to pay to have it towed the 90 miles where it spent several weeks being repaired under warranty. I was never reimbursed for towing. After getting the truck back, we had it four days and put 129 miles on it before the transmission failed again losing all forward gears. Once again I paid to have it towed the 90 miles for round two of repairs which took a week. This time we didnt even make it home before it lost most of the fluid because the mechanic forgot to install the extension housing bushing. This time they paid for the tow, yet we were without the truck again while they repaired the damage done to the extension housing and drive shaft.
We enjoyed the truck another month with a functioning transmission when the air conditioning failed. Mind you, we live in the Mojave desert where it gets over 110F in the summer. While running the air conditioner a terrible burning odor filled the cab with smoke from behind the dash. The truck was at the dealer nearly a month while they replaced the wiring harness behind the dash. After picking up the truck we tried the air conditioner in the parking lot only to find it didn't work. I found the service manager who told me "You know, you didn't even buy it from this dealership" When I reminded him the dealership I bought it from had closed, he implied that isn't his problem. I never once told him or anyone at that dealership that I had 23 years of dealership experience and know the routine. In fact I was very sympathetic with their efforts.
After getting the truck back, we sold it. It was a shame because my wife loved that pickup. It rode nice and was comfortable to drive. But my wife no longer trusted it. Anyone would agree if your wife isn't happy, you will be even less happy.

Gonna share here. First, let me qualify everything else I say with my GM history. Two Chevy cars. 3 transmissions. Stranded on 2 occasions. Water pump failures x 2. Electrical issues (recurring) for one of the cars. Swore off GM anything by the age of 23...in my mid-40s now and no chance of changing my position on GM. Now, the share....my former XO with my last Reserve unit was QC manager for a GM Tahoe/Suburban plant. He personally drove a Buick and loved his vehicle. Anyway, he said that he was invited to tour the Tundra plant in San Antonio, Texas. As a QC guy, he was excited by the Toyota process. A truck that didn't meet specs at each station was pulled from the line and sent back to the appropriate point in the process. This is a costly process. My XO said that this would never happen at his facility...that the rubber crowbar and mallet stations at the end make sure seems and panels are aligned for a GM...Tundra was sent back and done properly. Well, reputation of Toyota vs GM speaks for itself...and if the XO was truthful, and I knew him to be a stand up person and damn good officer, corporate culture may be at the root of why you should not buy a GM.

      @12B0692 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@jamesmcintire3800 Corporate culture has probably always been the difference between reliable manufacturers and producers of sh*t. No modern nation has truly better employees than another and hell, we all use the same robots and technology in manufacturing and design these days. I think poor corporate culture leads to cost cutting processes, cheaper materials, etc...I mean, Americans build the Tundra and Tacoma just like many of the GM trucks and cars on the road. I think it is more about process and corporate culture than employees. Look to Boeing and the criminal disregard for human life that it took to sell the 737 Max.
I like the way the new GM/Chevy trucks look and ride. Hell, I like the way the Dodge looks too..but, I like a vehicle that starts and gets me to where I need to go even more. Especially for the $$$ that these vehicles cost.

Check engine issues, rattles, poor idle, bad TPMS, clunking transmission, interior parts that just fell off, seat fabric showing wear after just one year, crappy paint, etc., etc. It was in the shop for over 30 days off and on fixing the multitude of problems. Some had to be escalated to GM and it became clear very quickly that they didn't care at all about the customer. On top of that, it’s been in at 35,000 miles because it was throwing all sorts of codes. Come to find out that the main wiring harness was worn through and shorting. So not only did a $40,000+ truck have this issue so early in its life, the repair was half assed and I’m sure it will be back again one day for the same issue. Power steering would sometimes stop working and would need to shut the truck off and start again and it would be fine, replaced a battery went to start it one day and was completely dead not even enough juice to light up the dash.... so many more issues then that I'm not even listing 1/4 of them, thing is that it wasn't really a lemon cuz I replaced things 2 and 3 times for the same issue,(radio twice , loose seat 3 times, 3rd brake light leaking twice and on and on) it's just a shite load of bad cheap parts
This turned me off GM and it will be awhile before I return back, when you pay that much for something they should be using higher quality parts

GM autos in general aren't worth the money any more. I had an 86 Cadillac and the thing never let me down, even at almost 30 years old. Then my parents made the mistake of treating themselves to a loaded 2010 Cadillac srx, which spent a good portion of it's 7 years with us in the shop. The last straw was when it started puking coolant while my Pap was driving home in the dead of a winter night. I also have neighbors with the Silverado and they complain about it as well (I think 2018). Ford is the way now for pickup and Honda for regular car

I've personally seen 10x as many fords with cam chain/phaser problems AND way more Hemi's with a lifter problem. As a certified auto tech for over 30 years, I'll take the Chevy everytime.

@@bdd1469 I'm pretty sure your wrong. And that comes from working on hundreds and a tech line where people call in every day with locked lifters. Do the tune while the lifters are good and they will last. Wait until the lifters lock, then you've got to wrestle with unlocking them or replacing them. Being proactive can save a lot of headache and engine work. And the tune advances the ignition timing enough that MPG doesn't suffer. Plus, the rings won't stick from running cold. If someone hasn't had much trouble with GM's AFM, they've been under a rock since 07.

Between drive train issues and a truck that was plagued with paint issues the cab had been painted 4 times as well as other body sections like hood and tailgate it was finally purchased back by GM. I am now in a 2016 Silverado and would say that I do love this one and frankly had just purchased a lemon. Thankfully GM was understanding and willing to work with me through the process and the pain of purchasing a lemon. I like to operate under the assumption that anything can and will fail in a vehicle during the time that I own it.
Especially in a truck, the fewer things that could possibly fail and affect the vehicles capability to drive home is important imo. Having technology that, if it fails, could possibly leave your truck firing on half it's cylinders is just asking for problems. Electronics are often the least reliable parts on these trucks.
In exchange for what? Maybe a mile or two more to the gallon?

This is true in more ways than one for pretty much any new truck with cylinder activation, and i know this on the Chrysler side for the horrible 5.7L
The 5.7L has a habit of ticking like crazy, could start as soon as it’s built, maybe later, but if you don’t take care of it religiously say goodbye to your valvetrain.

Good video! We used to have a 15 Silverado bought new about the same time he did and we had no problems whatsoever with it. My grandpa had an almost identical 15 to ours and he had a boatload of issues with his, including engine misfires and 3 or 4 AC problems. Both pickups were used for the same farm work purposes. When we traded our 15, it had 51k miles on it with no problems, and he only had 35k on his with all the problems. We always trade pickups every three years, so we both got 18 Silverados. Our 18 has 22k miles on it right now and has had no problems, but his 18 has been to the shop four times, all of the problems being fuel pump related. It is actually in the shop right now, getting a new pump put in the tank. But, he has had the work done at a different dealer than what he bought his pickup from, so we think that even though they say that they replaced the pump, I am almost 90% sure they didn't. I think a big thing with all of the problems he has been having is the dealer servicing the pickup, however.

All these issues happened just after warranty expired. Im pretty happy though knowing the truck was worked harder than most.

Bought a 2006 with a GM employee discount, the real one not the one in the comercials to suck buyers in. For 2 months I was happy as can be.... Then it got towed to the dealer and that was the start a long list of problems. I drive a 2016 f150 now and it's been a dream. No issues at all, better gas mileage and tows through the Ozarks like nothing is back there. All from a motor half the size of the Chevy's. We have now had 3 consecutive GMs that sucked big time and 4 Ford's with zero problems. No more GM cars for me.

It constantly blows my mind. In this day and age with all the avenues we have for research how people can still think GM/Chevy makes a decent product. They have in the past no doubt but for the last decade or more it's been a consistent steep sloe donward every freaking year. Tundra or F150 would have been a much better choice and people would know that if they just spent a little tie before they stepped foot in a dealer.

They’re all garbage dude. Sucks this guy had problems but we have a fleet of F150s at my job that all burn through transmissions and rear ends. Tons of problems with the diesels on our super duty’s too. And no one wants the dodge. Meanwhile my wife has a 2013 Chevy with 100k that I’ve had to do nothing but oil changes and a transmission line. Never been to the dealer or repair shop. Not trying to get into a pissing match but this is very anecdotal and I can point to plenty of Ford and Dodge owners who have also had issues. It’s a crap shoot. Whatever you buy I hope it doesn’t blow up on you lol.

It blows my mind that people are so brand loyal when products just screw them time after time. That's why I switched from GM. I finally snapped out of it. The best year I've ever had with any of the 3 GM trucks I've owned was still worse than the 7 years combined I've owned my F150.

I've had tons of fords and chevys, the chevys ALWAYS last much longer. The 5.3 is a bulletproof motor, the majority of the population has no problems with them. The fords problems are more frequent and more costly...coming from someone whos not really a massive fan of either brand.

I used to own a 1999 Corvette, and my experience with it and the service department over a recall issue soured me from ever thinking I would buy another GM product. My Corvette suffered from a locking steering wheel issue. the anti theft system would engage when it wasn't supposed to be engage making the car un-steerable. I am pretty sure this issue was only seen after startup, so I doubt there where any accidents caused by it. However, I had to get my car towed to a chevy dealership, they didn't offer me a rental, so I ended up riding my motorcycle back and forth during late fall. They kept my car for nearly a month, and then handed me a bill for right around a thousand dollars, because they said a motor that was part of the anti theft system that locked the steering wheel failed and it was not covered under the recall, I called GM corporate help line who was completely worthless, they basically told me if the dealership said it, then it must be so. I also had the dreaded engine knock in the LS1 and multiple electrical issues from both windows to windshield wipers, but the main reason I probably will never go back to GM is the all around poor customer service I received from them including the near month they kept my car while waiting for the part to come in.
in the article I link below they say the repair should have taken just over an hour to complete had they had the part in stock.
