Would like a bit more detail (in a separate video?) about the independent runner up - specifically what did he offer that proved attractive to a large number of voters. My suspicion is the voters said "a plague on all your houses" to all of the big parties, which is probably how a lot of people think across the nation.

Would like a bit more detail (in a separate video?) about the independent runner up - specifically what did he offer that proved attractive to a large number of voters.
My suspicion is the voters said "a plague on all your houses" to all of the big parties, which is probably how a lot of people think across the nation.

GG's defining characteristic is his capacity to express otherwise self-censored thoughts (such as "where are the Arab armies", and what Israel is doing now is genocidal), and through that expression align himself with constituencies (often Muslim, and often socialist) being left unrepresented by an establishment and its political parties. The smear campaign he has always faced (like the claim that Saddam Hussein was sending barrels of oil directly to GG), and usually "spanked" in judicial process, will now fire itself up for another round. He may lose the Rochdale seat at a next general election, but till then we have someone who will speak for Palestinians.
