With anyone supporting a ceasefire in Gaza being called a Muslim, Islamist or shockingly, an anti-semite despite that including many Jewish people (!!), something needs to change. George is the man to speak truth and bring the country together. Standing up for peace, just as Aaron Bushnell did is he most honourable thing a human can do

Galloway was not an independent he is for the left-wing Workers Party and Chris Williamson the ex Labour MP who was a big Corbyn supporter is the Workers Party deputy leader. Galloway reckons he won't stand again in this area in the next election though. The local garage owner was an independent came in 2nd place in Rochdale.

George Galloway won the seat by seizing the opportunity offered to him by the spineless leaders of the major parties, and that cannot be faulted. If Sunak & Starmer suffer self inflicted problems, that is not the fault of the electorate or the einning candidate. The media is trying to force a contradiction in terms, i.e. hate for being popular. We suffer enforced craziness in these troubled times.

Very pleased that GG won this curious Rochdale election. GG's defining characteristic is his capacity to express otherwise self-censored thoughts (such as "where are the Arab armies", and what Israel is doing now is genocidal), and through that expression align himself with constituencies (often Muslim, and often socialist) being left unrepresented by an establishment and its political parties. The smear campaign he has always faced (like the claim that Saddam Hussein was sending barrels of oil directly to GG), and usually "spanked" in judicial process, will now fire itself up for another round. He may lose the Rochdale seat at a next general election, but till then we have someone who will speak for Palestinians.

Beyond that, all humans, in my thinking, have the right to think and express aloud whatever their senses suggest to them. This on grounds of justice and truth and humanity; from 360 degree viewpoints, what is taking place is absolutely wrong. Then again, when domestic politics comes to involve attempted silencing of those who speak to this wrongness, the issues become local in the most fundamental of ways.
Then, more narrowly local, the second placed candidate, running on local issues, also spanked all the establishment political parties.

What a stupid question, obvious both traditional Establishment Parties got well and truly spanked, as they should in the coming General Election. We'd have a far healthier democracy if everyone voted for their Independents rather than the Big Two, who are just the same as each other and not for the working folks at all.

All starmer and Sunak have to do is the right thing and not follow foreign lobbyists and military organizations and we would have a respectable democracy again .

    Cobblers.
Galloway would probably have done well even if Labour had not disowned their candidate, but it's impossible to infer anything much from the mess of the Rochdale by election. George was very fortunate that everything fell his way. Let's see whether he does anything constructive, or just shoots his mouth off like a self-promoting populist demagogue. I have my own thoughts on that, but maybe he'll surprise me.

Congratulations to Mr George Galloway . Both Labour and Tories must be gotten rid of as they do not represent citizens of the UK. To those decent Labour MPs , I would suggest you break away and stand as independents. The culture of Party before the people will not work at the next general elections. This country desperately needs real change and not just from worse to bad .

Yes, the SNP. The party who put male perverts in women's prisons. Scottish women must be queueing up to vote for them. Welcome to Clown World.

    "Starmer... relatively uncritical".
An understatement that can only be construed as naive and misinformed in the most generous interpretation of these words and a quote comes to mind:
"You can't be wise without being intelligent, but you certainly can be intelligent without being wise".
