    What about the Shadows of the Empire figures? Shadows was treated a like movie without the movie. The made a big deal about it. SW Galaxy magazine, the SW Insider magazine of its day was pushing it hard. It had a novel, N64 game, Soundtrack, comics, trading cards and figures. In fact when the SE came out they added Dash Rendar's Corellian transport to the skies over Mos Eisley.

      @@ThatJunkman thanks. I'm sad SOTE didn't make the cut to be in the SW canon even with all the effort LF licensing put into it. Elements of it have since been retconned. :(

    • @TheEvilpossum
      @TheEvilpossum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I never understood why they made such a big deal about it. I thought the novel was literally the worst of the EU novels I read. Darksaber was maybe about as bad, but at least that had a batkr@p-crazy factor that gave it a measure of energy. SotE was just dull, dull, dull.

    • @russellharrell2747
      @russellharrell2747 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The SotE figures were on purple cards, years before purple lightsabers became canon.
      SotE probably should be canon given how much effort was put into it, but I can do without Xixor, Dash Rendar or whatever.

    There also were figures from ‘Shadows of the Empire’ figure line Luke in Red Stormtropper armor, Dash Rendar, Chewbacca as a Wookiee bounty hunter, and Leia in her Bounty Hunter Gear . These were from the Novel of the same name as line that took place between Empire strikes back and return of Jedi. Also it was a PC Game too.

    While I've never read the comic books, I had all of the action figures mentioned in your video. I'm not sure if I still have them, though.
    I do still have the Concept Vehicles . . . SEALED. I loved when they came out, as it was the first time Ralph McQUARRIE's designs saw the light of day as a toy and not just as a picture in a book. This is one of the reason I LOVE "Rebels". Seeing Mr. McQUARRIE's designs finally introduced as on screen canon is so damn cool.

    4:50, my favourite ever Luke Skywalker. Why don't I own one yet?!?
    5:22, if I recall correctly, the Imperial Sentinal was based on Kenner's previously unreleased ATHA PRIME figure.
    6:49, I love that speeder-bike, I was glad to see it slightly reworked into Star Wars Rebels as EZRA BRIDGER's bike!
    PS. Glad you've got the COPPA situation in hand, Junkman! :)

    I have a complete set of these - and by chance, too. I went into my local TRU (RIP), and on the floor by the Star Wars figures were some unopened cases. My friend who I was with, wanted a figure that wasn't on the pegs, so we opened the first case to see if it was in there. It wasn't, but figures from 'Dark Empire' and video games were. Furthermore, they were on cards that folded out to create scenes from the comics and games. Did we think about not buying them? Hell, no. I lent my friend the cash to get a set. They're still some of my favourite figures and vehicles made by Hasbro.

    My biggest secret of my teen years was buying Star Wars action figures in 1997. I was 17 and played in a very popular heavy metal band in high school and I drove a Monte Carlo. There was no way in Hell I could ever let out that I was spending my money on Star Wars, lol. I have a strange nostalgia to this era. I preferred the original stuff, but I bought the new figures. I personally don't recall the expanded universe packaging. I remember the Shadows Of The Empire though, but that had unique packaging. So yeah, I agree with the packaging didn't stick out. Or maybe since I stopped buying new Star Wars at the end of 1997, these could have came out after that? I still strolled down the aisle to look at new one's. I just didn't buy them. I remember the Episode 1 cards extremely well despite never owning them.

    Dash Rendar, the Outrider and Luke with the red lightsaber from Dark Empire were the all the reason I got back into toy collecting. The day I found those figures at Target and Kay Bee Toys back in 98/99 was one of my happiest.
    I remember buying the Shadows of the Empire comic book and playing that game on the N64 to death. It was like having another Star Wars movie.
    I was aware of the Heir to the Empire and Dark Empire that followed Return of the Jedi. I only found some comics, not all. I have all the Omnibus comics for that now so I'll go back to those when I need to get my fix.

    You could put the Jedi Leia figure with almost any line and it wouldn't clash.

      I think there was some hype about the day of release as I thought there were crowds. I forgot how many of them I bought on that 1st day or so. Also there was many people clamoring for card back version 0.00. Maybe a week or so later, I was baffled when I couldn't find them in any stores save for a GameStop or EB in the mall. I kept them for many years & even used the Power of the Force points to get 1 of the last mail away figures- Mace Windu Ep 1 sneak peak? I had to carefully cut the points off without going all the way through the card. Sold Mara Jade off 3-4 years ago when I was strapped for cash. Wish I had kept more of that stuff to give to my son now- too high priced & low quality.

    I have no idea why I don't have any of those figures. I think I might have some Shadows figures in my small 90s and later collection.
    I wonder if Hasbro has ever thought of doing you as a Star Wars character. Send photos of your face in, and they will put you as a Star Wars character. You can be a Jedi, a Rebel soldier, X-Wing pilot, a Stormtrooper, Mandalorian. etc.

    That Kyle Katarn figure could be easily customized into a Junkman figure.

    I find it amusing that the portrait of Kyle Katarn on the card is of the Dark Forces Kyle but with a poorly photoshopped beard.

    you failed to mention, was that these figures were on a very limited release schedule. They really were not a lot floating around upon initial release. Out of all the power of the force figures from 95 and beyond, these are the only ones that I have never, ever seen in person.

      Was the missile trooper (the stormtrooper in the winged torpedo-like device) part of this line?

    I don't remember this stuff at all. The only thing I kind of recognize is the snowspeeder looking ship. My guess would be that stores kept reordering the recognizable stuff and this stuff didn't get many pegs on the display. Starwars really REALLY needs the "saw it in the movie" to have any appeal to me. Maybe I'm just still traumatized by the mini-rigs. Things that weren't in the movies just seem like bad bootlegs designed by the toy company to make money rather than coming from the creative driving force. It would be cool if these things were previews of what was to come in the movies but is usually not the case. If I had already been reading the comics it would have been exciting to me to see some of these figures but since those ones weren't marvel I paid no attention to them. I sound like such a snob today. HA!

    Do a video on how fricken expensive star wars figures have become. And they look terrible for $14. 1995 I paid $3.99 for each of my figures. I almost bought a couple episode 9, 4 inch figures untill I saw that B.S. $13.99 price tag. I put them back on the pegs for some other sucker to get robbed, lol.
