Once more, great STAR WARS toy history! The sculpt of that 1995 / 1996 Imperial Gunner helmet was a game changer back then.. very movie accurate, very shiny, incredible sculpt. The new Vintage Collection gunners with their pinhead size helmets are pathetic in comparison.
I was fortunate enough to find both the red and green cardbacks at my local Toys R Us in Greenwood, Indiana back in the day & I still have both versions MOC 25+ years later.

It was a breath of fresh air, agreed, after the horrible first wave of figures from ‘95. Luke looked like a dim witted Roid head who failed his audition for WWF. Han Solo looked terrible too. Such a disappointment, all of those. BUT! The vehicles were badass, and a welcome upgrade

The 1990s. We were very blessed to be alive during that wonderful time. It was a sweet spot in history. The economy was strong, the Cold War ended, the internet became available to most people, and the pop culture was good.

There were also the long saber versions of Luke, Vader and Obi Wan, the Frito Lay mail away Spirit of Obi Wan, and the theater edition Luke. Then there were the many variations of the orange card Boba Fett. Oh, and it was in that Power of the Force 2 line where we finally got the Rebel Fleet Trooper.

Aw, man, yeah. I had both the mailaway Ben Kenobi, and the boxed set of all three, later on. There was a different translucency between the two Ben Kenobis. I also did the mailaways for Muftak and Kabe (the big spidery-eyed guy and the little bat-faced girl) and for Oola and Salacious Crumb. Don't forget Cantina bandmates, and B'Omarr Monk spider droid.

For those of us that grew up with the original figures, it was exciting to see the new ones in the 90's. Even with the buffed out physique, it was new Star Wars. As a college student, I didn't have the money to buy any of them at the time, but it was a great time to be a fan.

Getting that Slave Leia was tough. I had friends looking everywhere. They finally found me one. Two weeks later I walked up on one when I was looking for Tarkin. Truth be told, I transferred the "Never Before" label to that 2nd Slave Leia I found. (yes, I opened the first one)
When the Bespin Luke (w/removable hand! said the sticker) and Darth Vader (w/removeable helmet!) showed up at a local toy show in the mall..I got one of each. Slides I really didn't care about that much...but it sure felt good having those ESB characters.

Aw, man. ToyFare magazine loved to ridicule the sculpture of Leia's figure's faces. They found a perfect match of a monkey face and juxtaposed it with the 'honeybun' head Leia. Then, they used the inner card photo of Red Hot Chili Peppers' "One Hot Minute" CD to say the face under the Boussh helmet looked like Anthony Keidis! And they said "Carrie Fisher should sue, and sue again!"

One of my top favorite figures from the 90s is Jedi Leia.
    Thanks for doing this video.
Although I've moved on from POTF2, for the most part, I still love the 90s SW figures.
Alot of great memories collecting that line like going shopping after we (my sister & myself) got our Christmas money from our grandparents and we went to the mall and I spent all my money on Star Wars figures.

I had a ton of these figures and all of them were stolen. My buddies and I would go to Zayre, Venture and Kmart, shove a few down our pants and walk out the door. Department stores (other than Target) were on the decline and the security was absolute shit. After a few months doing this I did get caught and had to sign a document stating I had stole merchandise and that I would never enter Venture again. Security handled it, there was no arrest. However, about a month later my father (who has the same name as I do) opened a letter from a law firm. The letter was meant for me but he opened it assuming it was for him. The letter included a bill for $250. The law firm filing the paperwork I signed was charging me for the time to file the paperwork and the details regarding the theft were documented. Needles to say it was pretty embarrassing revealing to my dad I was 22 years old and had been stealing action figures.

What was great about Stormtrooper Han/Luke is that if you had these figures, along with basic Stormtrooper, you basically had multiple Stormtroopers for "troop building."
I know there are people who would want a dozen of them, in a practical sense, you really only need about three of them, and Stormtrooper Han/Luke has got you covered.

Nice to see some love for the Power of the Force 2 toys. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who loved them. The Jabba's Prisoner Leia figure was especially nice. Also, Grand Moff Tarkin was super great to get. It's about time that we got a figure for who was thought to be the main bad guy other than Darth Vader in the first Star Wars movie. Loved getting Han Solo in Stormtrooper Armor from Fruit Loops! What a great idea that was. I was excited to see new Star Wars toys again when these came out. I got two of each of the ones that I got: one for my collection and one for my nephew who had just turned five - about the age I was when the first Star Wars toys came out in 1978. That was so fun introducing him to Star Wars movies and toys!
These action figures were fantastic! The vehicles from this line were even better - perfectly made. I loved that they used some of the same molds or designs from the first lines, but did a much better job painting them to look like the vehicles in the movies. The Sandspeeder, for example, got those cool pin stripes and had the access hatch removed on one of the engines just like in the movie. They even made the Scout Troopers have bendable knees so they could actually sit astride their Speederbikes rather than awkwardly perched on top of them with that T-bar kinda holding them in place.
    Thanks for this video!

I still have boatloads of those figures, from orange cards, to green cards, to hologram cards, to film cell cards. I can remember getting thrawn for my brother. Not all of those figures in that line were bad, in my opinion. I felt the playsets they came out with, like the death star hallway, were pretty damn cheesy, and yes, I still have that one as well. I just wish they didn't get so damn carried away with some of them, like switching it up to the 3 pack scene sets. Don't get me wrong, some of those were pretty damn cool, but as far as "toy factor" went, they weren't good. I'm thinking of the emperor's throne room from Jedi that had palatine in the throne, Luke and Vader. As a diarama set, it was awesome, but play factor, it was way low on the scale in my opinion.

My buddy got all these and I thought the Sandtrooper was great. Kenner should have made them. I did mention to him, why they so jacked? I only got the Death Star Gunner. When the POTF line came out, I started really to look at Star Wars figures again as the sculpts and characters they started doing got really cool (Cantina aliens especially).

Unfortunately, a dog my family had at the time chewed at the Gunner figure and it got partially damaged. An arm got chewed off.

Exciting times I bought 5 of the green cards back in 96 thinking they will be worth some money in years to come! Then about 5 years ago I bought 5 of the orange cards that’s 10 of my favourite figures altogether! Got them stored away in the attic and they’re still not worth much today 😩😂

I didn't know that. Sounds like the GI Joe line, where one of the cereals (Corn Flakes, I think) had a mailaway for the medic, Lifeline. He was resculpted with no holsters, the one hip is smooth, and the carded figure is packed with a silver pistol, a silver radio backpack, a sort of briefcase med pack, and an oxygen mask. The mailaway, no silver pistol.
