I am in Australia and its prime fishing time now. My favourite thing i have brought is metal micro jigs 10-20g. Keeping a small slim baitfish profile with their weight to get 15m deep. Its like working a willow leaf slug that darts and flutters like a injured baitfish. You can work and depth of the water column depending on size, weight, speed retrieval. I like quick snappy pops wind tight, let it fall and repeat. I like them better than plastics as they are indestructible, only to lose on a bust off. The ones with a single assist hook at the front are amazing. The fish catches the treble and the assist swings and pins it somewhere else. A very secure hook set on the fish and i trust them.
@AaronHuntFishing i am fishing salt water for Australia snapper. I made a video of my fishing trip last weekend out. @ Lensi & Michael - Port philip bay pinkies and salmon bust up. Its not bfs just spin gear, i will have my shimano bantam 1982 model up and running soon. The salmon were all caught on metal slug lures.
The Baby Zero mini flukes are amazing pond and river baits. The elastech material they’re made of makes em get a bit janky on the hook after a fish catch but a bit of super glue fixes that, to keep the bait pinned to the top of the hook shank. I fish them on 1 or 2 sized EWGs.
Those bitsy tubes are the juice for the smallmouth. They’re definitely snaggy but they catch the biguns. Use a 1/16oz tub jig head and being that light it snags less. They are what I caught both my 4lbers on last year. Some times popping it more than dragging in some situations will snag less and the fish like it more on the fall anyways
I'm just starting my bfs journey this year. What I'm most excited to try first are a Megabass SR-X BFS, a RAID Japan Head Swimmer Libero Underspin and a Texas rigged Savage Gear Ned Salamander.
Hey Aaron, Great unboxing , I've been meaning to pick up some of that Siglon, so I'll be watching for that !? I grabbed up some Chinese knock-off "Bellows Gills" in 4 colors , they are 3" & 8 grams, gonna try them on some Ned jig heads and on some Strike King Bitsy Bug jigs, ( maybe weightless ???) also picked up some "Bass Assassin" soft plastic Shad's in 3" in a few colors for a 1/16 oz Texas rig, they are like those Zero mini flukes. never fished a tube before, I'll be watching that ?? I hear those are smallmouth candy !! Lol
Nice baits. I've got some knock-off and the real Bellows gills from last year - need to do a comparison vid this year. Only fished them once though. :P And I've been hearing tubes are smallmouth candy for years. Just haven't managed to catch a single fish on them yet! But every year I buy a few different ones to try. lol. This is the year. I WILL catch smallies on a tube at some point. The video title is already done: "I FINALLY caught a Smallmouth Bass on a Stupid Tube!"
@@AaronHuntFishing yeah, its crazy, just never catch much there early in the year. They usually travel upstream with the spring rains when the creeks are high.
The tube is an Open water lure try fishing on road beds or rock piles with slight wood. Or you’ll snag. And try to use it as a rip bait like a lipless you’ll get a strike on way down ✌️
@@AaronHuntFishing mark zona fishes a tube really affectively. He has a unique style of fishing, using that beat any catches, big, prespawn bass in the one video that he describes it.
The Z-man micro chatterbait did really well for me last year when I first started into bfs so I picked up quite a few of them. I also ordered some Keitech jigs that I’m excited to throw!
Aaron I have started using the Sunline PE. Now I mainly fish on the lake for Crappie. But it is better than any line that I’ve used. I was big into Power Pro because I could get the very small diameter lines. But the Sigleon is now my go to line. I really need to get back to my roots of creek fishing.
Hey Aaron, need line recommendation for the two spools that come with the Soloking Acura. I can do braid to fluoro leader if the leader will pass through the guides of the Handing Miracle using an Alberto knot (can’t do the FG) Or I can do straight braid. My first bfs reel so no idea of line lb needed. I fish light cover in local pond. Thanks!
I had no issues fishing the Daiwa J-braid Grand with a Seaguar Red leader. 8# braid, 6# leader. I'm currently starting to use Sunline Siglon ADV. Better in lab tests, but too early for me to tell any night and day differences. I was using the J-braid because it was readily available for a decent price from Amazon: amzn.to/435koUQ The only braid I've seen in stores local to me that I want to try is Suffix 832. It's probably the next to try after the Sunline. The Suffix is also highly rarted and available in finesse sizes.
@@DavidBronstein1961 Nope. I have straight fluoro on my only "standard" reel right now for jerkbaits. I may try it again sometime, but I just never felt like I got the distance or dependability - and definitely not the sensitivity - of braid. Plus most of my rods are softer action. Maybe Fluoro would pair better with fast / X-fast rods? When I'm throwing 110's (which is rare), that rod is a fast rod - Kistler Helium.
@@AaronHuntFishing ah of course, I forgot about how rod and reel work as a system. So for the relatively parabolic actions of bfs rods, the stiffness of braid makes total sense. Thanks!!
Do yourself a favor and get some Trokar TK190 tube hooks they are awesome and regular eagle claw has the same hook that’s a little cheaper that just don’t have the Trokar point
Man, I don't even get bit on tubes. Appreciate the suggestion, but I probably have $30 or more in tube hooks already (and I think some of those Trokars are in there!). Trokar, Venom, Owner, VMC, Gamakatsu.... I'll lose some more of them and maybe finally get a bite before I buy more tube hooks! LOL. The next ones I try will probably be from Confidence Baits. They make something a little different.
Definitely. The3X HUNt BFS for sure, and pretty much any of my standard or power BFS set-ups. It's only the ones that go down to 1 gram or less that I don't throw little jigs on.

Z-Man TRD Tubez in the PB&J color on a Z-Man Finesse Bulletz jighead caught me a ton of Smallmouth in Chartiers Creek last year. Give them a try.
PB&J is one of my best 2 colors on that water for sure! Just in a jig. :P

So far I've been happy with the casting. Still haven;t tested the knots much yet with this slow winter fishing.

How are the qualities of the jerkbaits? They are way cheaper than rapala and it's nice to have another state side option.
They look awesome, but I haven't thrown them yet.
Did I hear you correctly that you live/fish in Pennsylvania? I live a few minutes south of Harrisburg.
Yep - SWPA - Pittsburgh area.
