these days, casting reels are like smartphones. alot of folks buying new reels every year are chasing incremental improvements. my bfs reel is a jdm daiwa sv lite ltd. certainly not new by any measure. but it still works great, and does every thing i need it to do, so i won't be replacing it any time soon. i bought it on this channel's recommendation, and i have never been disappointed. my bass reel is a curado dc 150 hg. also not even close to new. still does everything it's supposed to do. it is ready for some service though. it's got some serious mileage on it. it's a great reel, but i don't really think i get alot of use out of the dc feature. i think it would have been just as good without it. however, i'm old school, and learned to use my thumb properly many decades ago.

Wow what a nice looking Reel. I have a second hand Shimano Caius the new model I got from eBay for 33 bucks and it feels like a 100 dollar Reel and the Knobs are by far my favorite aspect of the Reel. I’m in Caius territory and can’t imagine using something that nice but I bet it’s one of the best you can get. Cool Video my Friend
@@davidrussell9290 I don't really like the looks of higher end models plus they are bulky, Curado DC looks nice, but idc4 is inferior to idc5 and base model SLX DC also doesn't look good to me. So this looks to be perfect plus old Curado frame is pretty comfortable to palm.

I have the Curado DCs and SLX DCs and am a huge fan of the entire line of Shimano reels of which I have over two dozen from Citicard up through Metaniums and Aldebarons. Quality gear that holds up over the years.
Man, the jdm versions look so much cleaner than the usdm reel. I have both the previous slx dc versions, had I known the slx dc xt was going to be a thing, I would have spent the extra $50 for the dc xt instead of the usdm dc.
It’s because business monopolize in America, if American bring all these JDM reels into the US nobody would want to buy other brands (like: Lews, Abu, Quantum, 13 fishing and Pflueger) in its price point competition, so to keep it a level plane field they (US) will literally sabotage any JDM reel to lower the price and so other brands can compete with it, because nobody can’t touch Shimano or Daiwa in terms of price + performance, that’s what I know
Plus if they (US Fishing Market) can’t do anything to it they’ll jack up the price so high no one want to buy it too, that’s kinda f**k up coming to thinking about it
Thats why I put out the "JDM New Releases" Video every year, to inform you guys as to whats coming out lol. The Japanese usually keep the coolest tackle for their home market and you would be shocked to see whats available there that we dont have here, especially with JDM Abu Garcia

@@curvingphoenix well it came out recently. It’s a blacked out Antares with a large spool, really fast retrieve, and DC brakes that are similar except the exsence’s makes more adjustments which is good when it’s windy. It’s also incredibly smooth.

I know the metanium is light but it doesn’t have the MGL spool like the Antares & exsence have. I know there’s also the new SLX DC XT but there’s not much info on that one either
There was a new Antares DC last year, so it will be awhile before a new one comes out. But Antares are never going to be engineered to be lightweight. I think a new Metanium DC should be coming out in 2023. We will know for sure around the middle of January

Quick question for you, with my other DC reels I can spin the handle pretty fast and hear that famous DC sound, but can't on this one...any particular reason why? Just want to make sure I don't have an issue with mine without being able to use it for a bit.

Got my new Shimano Miravel 2500 last week and I also noticed there wasn’t any oil in the box…. Not that I need but all of my previous Shimano reels came with it.
Whoa! Very curado 70 lookin…which is good, the curado 70/engetsu is the most comfortable baitcaster I’ve ever held in hand. It’s not my favorite…that still goes to the aldebaran 30/50 but if this reel is indeed a curado 70 type frame and they’ve updated the brakes (I could never find a comfortable medium with mine…too unpredictable), I might have to give this thing another shot.

I want to get a aldebaran 31 for jerkbaits do you think that is too smal of a spool for onetens? I'm putting it on a Orochi XXX (yes a 3 x orochi) oneten stick. It's a 6'5
I mean a Metanium will cast a 110 farther but the concern is the line cap of the Aldebaran. You can cast all the line off the 31 if you are using 10lb line and up if you have a good casting lure.
@@THEREELTEST the metanium is a much cheaper option too, I think I might get that instead. I was planning on using 8 lb flouro and on jdm tackle heaven it says it holds 90 yards of 8 but I'm finding it hard to believe.
Today I was looking at a Curado DC real and the person at the store clearly demonstrated how even with the drag turned on all the way you could still move the spool with your finger - he said that this was a deficiency common to the DC reels that rarely ever gets mentioned in reviews.... can you comment on this?
This! I had this issue with my '21 Scorpion. Took it to a reel repair shop and they explained the drag washers were installed incorrectly. I no longer have the issue. Seems like a QC issue, possibly tied to being made in Malaysia?

I used to want a drag clicker,but realized it was counter intuitive to use. Clicking drag on spinning reel is to let you know to not reel, to avoid line twist
Nice reel, but I find the thumb bars on Shimano reels sit a little too high for me--smaller hands and all. Would love if they lowered it a tad. But then again, I’m being nit-picky.

The one thing shamano needs to do with the DC need to be salt water rated instead of fresh water rated. The slx DC for the price is worth the money and I don't regret buying it. I'm impressed with how easy it is to set it up for any type of fishing experience level.
or for 10 to 20 bucks less. you get new scorpion dc with same drag, same bearing count, same idc5 brakes, and more line capacity, same knobs and doesn't have the ugly screw holes in the side of the frame like the usdm slx dc a lower end reel. even the curado dc doesn't have the ugly holes. to me its like they took new scorpion and put in older frame and made it lighter and a bit smaller. the only reason i would pick this reel is if I wanted to cast smaller baits all the time like 1/4 to 3/16th apparently, and wanted a smaller 1oz lighter reel, i cast 1/4 oz all the time on my scorpions dc and my slx dc usdm reels

Great review, just ordered one. Appreciate all the work you put in, but to be honest, these JDM models are cutting into my bank account. I'm going to have to keep selling my current reels to keep up. I've been using the Curado DC's (have 4) but this is the ticket to cast my lighter stuff like neds and worms. Keep up the great reviews you do.
I have 2 curado dc’s and I won’t buy another dc reel. I honestly see no benefit in how I fish or cast just extra weight and more money. Currently I have 2-curado dc, 2- Lews customer lite’s, 1- lews custom pro, 1-Daiwa zillion sv tw g I have no brand loyalty but was incredibly impressed with the zillion
I would have to disagree about the shimano dc reels being by far the most forgiving casting into the wind. The zillion is the most forgiving reel dealing with casting into the wind. Or atleast that i’ve used. And i love shimano as well

I just ordered the scorpion mgl 151hg, gonna toss it on 1 of my 22 zodias or the 6th esp rod.
In the box for my Metanium DC there was a note about them discontinuing the oil in the box.

There are no jdm slx. Jdm are only for the expensive one. Slx are are asemble in Vietnam, Malaysia but the parts are from China 🤣

it can do everything the Scoprion DC can do but it just holds less line. the handle on the Scorpion is much beefier though.

Shimanos dc system is great. It makes casting easier. With that, I don't see it being the future. It may catch on more, but not dominate the market.

JDM reels have smaller spools and I've heard that can impact your casting distance (Genuine question since I've never owned a jdm reel)

I believe all the slx reels are saltwater rated
Tested mine out yesterday, casts like any DC and throws lighter baits better. Biggest win, finally a more compact DC reel.

What is the performance to dollar value between the SLX DC XT and the Curado 150 DC since they are roughly the same price?
Great review, just ordered one. Appreciate all the work you put in, but to be honest, these JDM models are cutting into my bank account. I'm going to have to keep selling my current reels to keep up. I've been using the Curado DC's (have 4) but this is the ticket to cast my lighter stuff like neds and worms. Keep up the great reviews you do.

I have 2 curado dc’s and I won’t buy another dc reel. I honestly see no benefit in how I fish or cast just extra weight and more money. Currently I have 2-curado dc, 2- Lews customer lite’s, 1- lews custom pro, 1-Daiwa zillion sv tw g

I can buy a boat without selling a thing, but it would be a waste of money because of how little I would be able to use it
I would have to disagree about the shimano dc reels being by far the most forgiving casting into the wind. The zillion is the most forgiving reel dealing with casting into the wind. Or atleast that i’ve used. And i love shimano as well

@@SimonC82686 yea it’s an extremely good real for the money. Best out imo at that price point. Then the shimano metanium mgl. It’s a toss up imo but the metanium is like $30 more so that made my decision
