A beautifully groovy episode. Seeing your sailboat dance through the gorgeous waters was almost dream like. Once again, let me say, you are very lucky people, minus a wash machine. LOL!
When you hoist your main sail, turn up into the wind. Hoisting on a beam reach like you did makes it way harder to hoist, and also puts unnecessary stress on the sliders and other hardware.
Hoisting on a reach is very common for blue water sailors where it would not be safe to turn into the wind and large swell to manage the main Same goes for reefing, we blow the main sheet and luff the main to reef/unreef. ASA teaches to head up but that is for a very different use case👍
OMG I had the headphones on and started laughing out loud at the laundry situation! And then Bill in the Manhattan tshirt, assuming Jaspers and not a club team.
That was risky getting out of that little harbor but you did it like a pro.First time I’ve seen Grace on the helm 👍Love that big blue sail it’s my favorite color ⛵️That was some fun sailing, weather and wind were perfect. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Love the videos, while viewing the Code 0 video I noticed the chain rust staining the deck ? To remove the rust stain see if you can buy Merry Kate On Off acid. This product is fantastic, but very strong. You can cut the strength as much as you want. While using you will need water to rinse. It may stain the bottom paint above the waterline. Use a good scrub brush. Good luck !
A lovely sail in beautiful waters! Eventually, with your teaching, I will learn all the forward sails and their uses... Ilike the Manhattan Hockey tee shirt in the Bahamas! Were you recruiting?
I Thought I saw a Quick shot of a Bow Sprit on your boat a few videos back, But then I didn’t see it again (until now) so I figured it must ave been on a Different channel 🤷🏻♂️🤔 😎👍
I’m considering a prod and asymm for my 42. Any issues with back-furling that has been reported on some furling set ups? What’s the max windstrength you would run this sail at, say, 120? And at downwind angles 120-160 are you giving away much speed compared with your spinnaker in the sock?
The furler has been pretty solid for us, our sprit is slightly offset to port so need to route the halyard to the port side block on the mast head to avoid getting the top swivel stuck on the forestay. We also needed to add bungee to keep proper tension on the furling line. The zero is a more versatile sail for us than the assym. Our assym is large and can't carry it in much more than 9,10 apparent. The zero we can run up to 13,14 down wind. We run aren't giving up much as we pole out the genoa with the code zero so get some added sail area, very easy to control as both are on furlers :)
Hi, great video! I just found your channel. WOuld you mind adding the table you referred to about the bowsprit to the description? Or would you mind simply tell me the ratio for a 40 feet boat? Best regards!
Let me have a look around and see if I can find it. Came as an instruction manual for the pole which we got from Selden. Was based off displacement of the boat.

Oops missed this episode somehow, I love the Selden unit on my former 28 and need a new spin for the S36. Do you like the port bow sprit connection? Would you do anything differently?
We are really happy with how it came out! We made major renovations to the bow area adding the sprit, windless, and inner forestay. The pole gets us an extra 10 degrees with our assym and main up!
We got the bow sprit, fittings, and furler from Selden. The furler is performing double duty as we have another anti torsion cable and will be flying a staysail off it. :)
Way too much hardware ... hank on gives you the option to fly any sail that the wind allows. Hank on inner stay lets you fly a storm tri. And flying a spinnaker with not chute lets you pull it down from the bottom vs collapsing a full sail into a funnel. .... Just my opinion
I agree a hank-on staysail is probably the best option as it allows you to run a storm sail from the same stay. You can even hank on the staysail prior to leaving on passage if it’s going to blow and leave it on deck to hoist when required and pull down from the cockpit using a chicken line that runs to the peak. A good system. But beyond that a furling genoa is awesome, and an A-sail you can unfurl, gybe and furl from the safety of the cockpit is fast and safe for Bluewater cruising.

😄 One the great old videos worth re-watching

It seems they had to learn à few basics of sailing. And they didn't show much of furling or unfurling the code 0.

What a beautiful sail under the code zero.
It our favorite sail! 😎
Nice reality version of cruising courage makes you strong!

😂😂 Yep was for the Jaspers! It was D1 but then the MAAC Hockey was dissolved so we wound up as a club team. Still fun to get out and play tho!
Cool channel and lots of spare rope!
Thanks! Hahaha tons of line around
Awesome sailing ⛵ The water is soooo beautiful 😍
It really is! Love that Bahama blue!

Thank you 🤗 We love our code zero, such a versatile sail! We can use it upwind as well as downwind! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed this...thanks!
Thanks! We were pumped to get to play with the new sail :)
Great sailing! :)
Found you from a live stream shout-out from Delos!
Can't wait to binge your channel!
Thanks for following along, we love Brian and Kazza! We've had a great little community during all the global turmoil!
I found them from trough Delos as well :) (not trough that live stream but trough going trough their channel)

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try it out! We need to get new anchor chain or regalvanize it. It been in the water almost 4 years straight 😂

Haha no ice rinks in the Raggeds 😂; I played hockey at Manhattan College :)

Yep! It was an awesome upgrade for us, prob one of our most used sails!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing ... 🤣 Ha, yeah, it was Just the Gear you needed between 3rd & 4th ⚙️ gear 😎👍
@@annafraley5388Yep good analogy :) Plus with only 18 gallons in main tank we need to keep the boat moving in light air :)
The code zero sure is easier to deal with than the spinnaker, but I'm going to miss those really bright colors!
Don't worry, we still use the Spinny in light wind so it's not going anywhere!
@@CalicoSkiesSailing do you have to turn upwind every time you shift gears?

Fantastic! Love the new sail plan really cool. How high will the staysail go up the mast so it won’t interfere with the head stay?
It will be raised with our spare Jib halyard so up to the mast head. We don’t have the sail yet so haven’t figured it all yet :)

Nice setup. Did you keep the asymetric spinaker or the code 0 is good enough for all downwind point of sail?
We still have the assym for deeper angles. Can cheat with the code zero but it lacks the broad shoulders of an assym for deeper than 120 or so
@@CalicoSkiesSailing can you use it lower than 120 in conjunction with a poled out genoa, wing on wing?
Nice one
Who supplied the bow sprit?
We got the bow sprit, fittings, and furler from Selden. The furler is performing double duty as we have another anti torsion cable and will be flying a staysail off it. :)
What type of sailcloth is your code zero made of?
it's nylon, nothing too fancy :)

Sorry. Gave up after 45 seconds of that vocal fry.
