I love what i'm seeing from this plugin in all the videos i've watched. I'm definitely buying it. I'm holding out until next week to see if they offer a black Friday deal on it. Just the spectrum section alone makes this plugin worth the asking price.
Thank you so much, Mike! Your reviews and tutorials are excellent. Could you do a Plugin of the Week for ADPTR - Sculpt? See you Wednesday for the live class!
Great explanation of Metric A/B which I just purchased. My question is are there any tutorials you have or methods you would suggest to see how to apply these features practically to mixing? For example, how you would use the information in the sub-frequency of your reference track to help you dial in the right levels to your own song? Or, how you would use the dynamic info from the reference track to influence the changes you would make in your song and what those changes would be. It would be very helpful to see a practical application of this unique plugin.
Great video Mike thank you...i just got this and its Awesome i think if i could turn back time this would have been my priority purchase number one...i like the fact that it is very visual i know we should never mix with our eyes but this thing will help me until i finish my new studio/room . at this point in time i have an interim space and it suuuuuucks .. this is a great way of seeing if my decisions where or are in the right place.. once again Thanks.. What a nice plugin! Thanks for showing us. Maybe you should review the new eventide reverb 2016 plugin for your next "plugin of the week". Cheers from Montreal.
This looks pretty similar to Magic AB by Sample Magic. I have been using Magic AB for a while now and really love it. I was excited about Metric AB because it looks and feels like an updated version of Magic AB but the price point between the two are a bit extreme.
As usual, great review. I wondering have you heard of the oeksound's plugins, soothe and spliff. They are unique in their approach, and I would love to hear your input on them.
19:09 That reset button is backwards. When you hit reset on a stopwatch it goes counterclockwise. This reset button shows a clockwise image. Should be counterclockwise.
Would this be a good plugin to to match your guitar recorded sound to an existing song? I have some prerecorded guitar tracks and would like my guitar sound to be as close as possible.
Thanks for the tutorial. The asking price is too high. For that kind of cash outlay, I would expect some type of analysis report the software would provide that highlights potential problem areas for you automatically. While comprehensive the Fab Filter Eq still works as a good reference tool while lacking a bit of the cool features of A/B.
I'm still learning this great plugin, so apologies for my ignorance. The Correlation confuses me though. I don't know how to read the graph and nowhere in the manual does it explain how to recognize phase issues. Is the red area at the bottom of the display the 'problem' zone? How would you fix it?
I’ve tried Reso. Anyone have any insight on how it compares to this? This seems more detailed. Curious if it’s worth it. Or I’ll just get lost. Thanks.
@@mixingwithmike And just before any calibration / virtual studio plugin, if used. I just got it for $39 and I'm gonna use it along with Waves Abbey Road Studio 3. It should help tremendously with my poor monitoring environment. Thanks for this great review by the way :)
Hi Thanks for the video Mike! How should I think about the audio files that should be the reference? Where can I find such quality sound today? Spotify? Itunes? other media? They usually have processed and mastering the song far beyond the current norm. For example, the loudness. Cheers! Peter
I have the same question. I haven't listened to a mp3 for ages. Just streaming. But streaming is lossy so ripping the chorus of a streamed track is not the best idea I guess? So where do people buy high quality audio files nowadays?
Beatport, Junodownload (mainly dance music based)... for others I'd prob go to iTunes - make sure you purchase in Wav, Aiff or Flac... not sure about using Spotify even with the high quality part selected as I doubt they give you access to the file outside Spotify in the format you need
For those who can still load in CDs, I would import them to iTunes (Mac or PC) with the import settings set to WAV. Or, bring WAV files in via Dropbox.
When you mix and especially if you master you should regularly be listening to reference tracks that you have chosen and trust to guide you side by side to your project song or songs. This is especially important if you're not working in a treated studio so that you have some way of telling how your mix or master is currently performing otherwise the less than perfect acoustics could start to convince you that you're mix is fine when a quick A-B comparison with a selected reference track will quickly readjust your thinking and appraisal of your song.
Thank You Mike. Great tutorial again as always! I have a question. What software do You use to make your videos/tutorials? To capture your Pro Tools screen? There are many out there, but I want to know what software/program is your favourite? I work with Windows 10 Home. Thank You for your reply. (THIS QUESTION IS GENERAL TOO: SO PLEASE IF YOU DO PT TUTORIALS; HELP IS NEEDED!)

HI Mike like always great great great videos. I have a question. I was looking into buying some Mackie XR624 studio monitors but they are not in my local Sam Ash or Guitar center so I can't hear them.I don't see a lot of reviews on them or anything just some people saying they're some good monitors that's it. Just want to get your opinion on them before I talk to my sale engineer at sweetwater. Thanks!
Hi, do the eq (etc) waves for the reference track differ if we upload an mp3 version of our reference track instead a wav format of the same reference song? Thanks.
Years late but maybe useful for someone else... Yes they would differ but not really where it matters most for comparison purposes, the midrange. Get the midrange right and your mix will be much closer to right.
like very much your Tuts... but may i suggest to eq better your voice. Its really tyring and annoys after few minutes.. i think somewhere around 3k. Thanks
This is how you review something! That was an excellent presentation, thanks Mike!

With Reference 2 you can assign a key for switching between A and B. Is that also possible in MetricAB?

Excuse me sir I’m trying to figure out for what is this and I still don’t get it, what are you gonna compare and why?

anyone know what the red stuff below 0 is in the correlation section ? thanks.
out of phase
bjd4 pretty sure the solid non red line that ducks below the 0 is the “out of phase”
@@scotthstevenson no, 0 is perfectly in phase, above the line is positive phase, and the further below the center line, the more out of phase it is
bjd4 I know. When the non-red line dips below 0, it’s out of phase at that frequency. Still don’t know what the red is

I listen on very good studio monitors and it sounds fine to me. I think you may be hearing Mike's slightly nasal sound.
