I think _Fatal Tragedy_ is probably my favourite Dream Theater song (of the non-epics...it's hard to put songs like this and _A Change of Seasons_ and _Octavarium_ in the same category). It certainly has my favourite Dream Theater guitar solo (and if you listen carefully, you can't tell exactly where the guitar solo ends and the keyboard solo begins, because they merge into one another), and the bass line at the end is one of Myung's finest creations. God man, this album is freakin' incredible.

    • @nexuslang
      @nexuslang ปีที่แล้ว

This. Nobody ever talks about that bass line at the end. Never heard anything so amazing coming from a bass guitar. "Home" was the first DT song I ever heard, but "Fatal Tragedy" got me for good. Myung is a true freak of nature, his work on this album is nothing short of spectacular.

The album really picks up after the first few songs. I don't think its as consistently great song for song as some of there other albums though. Their are more ballads/slower songs than usual.

Have missed a few of your reactions, it's the time of year that is difficult for me and for some reason my depression is much worse this go round than in recent years, sigh; I have just really been struggling this whole past week. But I caught this one and the Haken, I confess that particular Haken album (Aquarius) isn't one I've really listened to. That song was not my fave Haken for sure but I'm sure it might come across better in context with the entire album. This Dream Theater one is so dark as far as story but has quite the range and variety of musical tropes going on all in one song.
Anyway...I would like to share that March 7 (tomorrow) is my son's birthday, he would have been 39 wow but is forever 31, and my sadness and depression with missing him is really hitting me hard this year for some reason. So if you think of it--I know you have so many requests lined up--I would love to see you react to a song I think of as a tribute to my son Daniel's memory and all his struggles here. He 'died' once before his actual death in 2015 and was in a coma for days, and like you he said he saw nothing and had no near death experience at all. But I feel strongly in my spirit that he IS okay now and is continuing in Conscious Awareness on some other plane. Doesn't stop me missing him here and now on THIS plane though. And even if you don't react to the song link pasted below here maybe some of your subscribers will go give it a watch and send some love to my son Daniel, wherever he might be. Just don't want him to be forgotten. The song is 'Blackbird' by Alter Bridge and it was written for a friend of the band who passed. But the lyrics also fit my son so well. It has to be this live version, it's just meaningful to me in a deep way. (And yes, they pay homage to The Beatles song of the same title by copying that song's opening bars, but the rest of the song is definitely not a Beatles cover!) Sorry for rambling on so.
    th-cam.com/video/YSrQlvTfB_4/w-d-xo.html
    Here are the lyrics:
    Blackbird
    The willow, it weeps today
A breeze from the distance is calling your name
Unfurl your black wings and wait
Across the horizon, it's coming to sweep you away
It's coming to sweep you away
Let the wind carry you home
    Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again
    The fragile cannot endure
The wrecked and the jaded, a place so impure
The static of this cruel world
Cause some birds to fly long before they've seen their day
Long before they've seen their day
Let the wind carry you home
    Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again
    Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
Ascend, may you find no resistance
Know that you made such a difference
And all you leave behind will live to the end
The cycle of suffering goes on
But the memories of you stay strong
Someday I too will fly and find you again
Let the wind carry you home
    Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again
    Beyond the suffering you've known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
May you never be broken again

@@L33Reactsppreciate it. Some years I remember him with more lighthearted songs or songs he really liked and some years I get more sentimental; there is another beautiful Alter Bridge song Myles wrote for his mother who passed called In Loving Memory and I listened to that one on his birthday last year, a lot of the lyrics match the whole mother/son bond only in reverse for me:
      In Loving Memory
      Thanks for all
      You've done
I've missed you for so long
      I can't believe you're gone
      You still live
      In me
I feel you in the wind
      You've got me constantly
I never knew what it was to be loved
      Thanks for all you've done
I've missed you for so long
      I can't believe you're gone and
      You still live in me
I feel you in the wind
      You guide me constantly
I never knew what it was to be alone, no
'Cause you were always there for me
      You were always home waiting
But now I come home and I miss your face
      So smiling down on me
I close my eyes to see
And I know you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel, I can't hold on
I sing tonight 'cause it comforts me
I carry the things that remind me of you
In loving memory of the one that was so true
You were as kind as you could be
      And even though you're gone
You still mean the world to me
I never knew what it was to be alone, no
'Cause you were always there for me
      You were always home waiting
But now I come home and it's not the same, no
      It feels empty and alone
      I just can't believe you're gone
And I know you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel, I can't hold on
I sing tonight 'cause it comforts me
I'm glad it sets you free from sorrow
But I'll still love you more tomorrow
And you'll be here with me still
All you did you did with feeling
And you always found a meaning
      And you always will
      And you always will
      And you always will
And I know you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel, I can't hold on
I sing tonight 'cause it comforts me
This year I am just more 'broken' again even though I know his earthly struggles and how hard it was for him just to BE here are far behind his spirit now and not at all how he must be now. I don't want to only remember his depression but to celebrate the freedom and light of all the other great things he was, but this time I hope he will give me a free pass for being back in the sad vibe again on this particular birthday. I plead my human case that I am still stuck down here and not yet privy to all the enlightened coolness of Beyond as he is now, ha, so he will just have to wait out my emotional venting like the old days, when he would just roll his eyes at my histrionics but then go make me hot tea with lemon cookies and bring it to me on a saucer along with a box of kleenex for my crying.

  • @faultier3215

The story is about a guy who has nightmares about a girl who got killed and goes to see a psychiatrist, who hypnotizes him. In Hypnosis, he finds out about that he actually lived a past life as Victoria, who got murdered in some love/jealousy drama... I dont know the story precisely, but I think in the end he finds out that the guy who murdered him in his past life was actually the psychiatrist or something? Not too sure 😅
Anyways, wait for "Home", its by far my favourite track on this album =)

During the Budokan live version of Beyond This Life they show a clip of Frank Zappa on the big screen during the instrumental section.

I doubt there is one person out here who doesn't either air drum or air guitar when the music is good. Not a bad work, a little dead and too long in some sections, some of the instrumental parts were not something I connect to. Dream Theater is good, but I just feel there is more to the songs produced by Blind Guardian, Ayreon, Opeth, Symphony X, and Rush. I have songs from all of those bands on one or more playlists (different lists for how I feel or what I am doing) but nothing from Dream Theater. Still, they have a certain something to the albums when listed from beginning to end which is often hard to do. and heads is always a good choice. great reaction, keep rocking.

About what you said in the end of the video:
I totally get it, but why do you think people watch reaction channels? Because they remember how they felt when they listened to their favourite pieces of music for the first time, and want to see this effect on someone else who shares their passion for the same type of music. There is nothing wrong about complementing great art and enjoying it together =)
I am still curious about what you have planned, but there is nothing wrong about doing reactions. You are also doing the artists a favour, because for some viewers this might be a way to discover new artists they didnt know about aswell.

I appreciate your response bro. I just struggle with not creating things. That doesn’t mean I can’t do both, you know? I just think hearing some of the ideas and concepts this album was being up made me question what I was doing in a way. But I do have some fun stuff planned :) you’ll understand when you finally see it lol

I think the vocals are perfect for this music and Dream Theater. He is such a versatile vocalist. He is much better than your typical metal vocalist. As long as there is none of that horrible growling then I am okay. The growling is what takes me away from liking Opeth. I know they went away from the stupid growling but their best stuff musically is ruined by the laughable growls.

The Great Misdirect is a legendary album. Swim to The Moon is such a brutally technical epic. Btbam would probably be even better than Dream Theater. The one thing I can't stand is the harsh vocals which totally ruins their music. So sad!!

      @L33Reacts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are so right man it is a legendary song. But I have to respectfully disagree about Tommy’s harsh vocals. They add SO much to the music. But hey, apples and oranges right? Just like how the vocals from DT tick me the wrong way some times 😂😂🤷‍♂️
