    Having listened to all albums, Home is still my favourite DT song ever.

    DT is an acquired taste but once you get it, they'll be in your playlist forever, at least for me. So many albums, so much amazing music to digest... Almost like a modern Mozart or Beethoven 🤷‍♂️

    To me one of MPs best drum fills is in the middle of the guitar solo that he says JP learned and integrated into the solo so it's in unison.

    This is flex! Over 100 time signature changes.. why?
    Because they can! Musicianship of this caliber is unheard of.. too much talent

    When you listen to Dream Theater you get Mozart, you get Beethoven, you get Pink Floyd, you get Led Zeppelin and you also get the heavy metal riffs at the same time. They are something else these guys. So talented its scary

    When you're not ready for it to be over, listen to the whole thing all the way through in one setting! Its like the songs never end because they transitions are so smooth!

    This stretch of songs are some of their best ever! Was lucky to see them play this album live a couple years ago.

    Hey Marvin, ridiculous reaction! :) At this point You're the best reacting person of Dream Theater in TH-cam! When You end this album, please do reaction from LIVE SCENES FROM NEW YORK from 2000. Full live performance. You will be the first who do it. I think Dream Theater fans waiting with longing for that. Cheers Friend! :)

    On the line "it's calling me back to my Home" the riff you hear is coming from the song Metropolis part 1

    I’d love to see your reaction to Learning to Live, a song from their breakthrough album. And if you ever have time, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, a 42 minute song

    By the way please know that the end of this album transitions into the next album Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

    Notes on these songs
    Through Her Eyes - practically a rest song after some progging in Beyond This Life. Seems a strategic move, as they need those slow songs to pick up energy in live shows.
    Home - among all the songs in this album, this is the one with the most callbacks from Metropolis Pt. 1. Some riffs and lyrics are lifted from the original and have connected it to the story. Btw, it is a sitar patch of Jordan's keyboard. A scimitar is a sword, and I don't know if that is a musical instrument lol
    Dance of Eternity - canonically, this song is about the affair of Victoria with Julian. Thematically, this song is a callback to Metropolis Pt. 1's long instrumental break, featuring multiple meter changes and of course, a bass solo.

    • @Beefnhammer
      @Beefnhammer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't even notice that he said scimitar 😂 I'm sure he meant to say sitar

    • @BeardSous
      @BeardSous 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be a musical instrument if you count the screams of slain foes as music

    One time I heard 46 and 2 on the radio and I got excited thinking they were playing Home because radio stations never play DT.

    30:29 Yeah, pretty much. Just the most talented group of people.
    You should've found them last year when they were still playing the Metropolis 2 album in it's entirety live. It was the most unbelievable and unforgettable experience of my life.

  • @Verdant_Eternity
    @Verdant_Eternity 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That mini solo is dope indeed and not often given appropriate recognition even by fans and guitarists. Petrucci background riffs are better than most bands solo segments as normal. Please do the count of Tuscany brahhhhh!

    I saw Dream Theater perform this album live in 2000 in Austin and then again in Austin 19 years later in 2019. Once with Portnoy and one with Mangini. I was blown away both times.

  • @pabloc1935
    @pabloc1935 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    35:23 I totally agree. In fact, when I saw them live touring this full album I only took my phone to record this ending and Spirit carries on solo...

    The "spoilers" in the text in Home is not much of a spoiler, considering The Dance of Eternity is an instrumental with no real hints as to what happens in the story, it's very open to interpretation.

    • @kennhern
      @kennhern 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's basically a callback to Metropolis Pt. 1's long instrumental section that also features a bass solo. They thought that the original had a long instrumental, so as part of the concept, they did just that.

    • @DrakeFury1
      @DrakeFury1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kennhern Yes, I was just saying that because of what Marvin said when the "subtitles" "spoiled" the story of the next song. The Dance of Eternity doesn't "dive deeper" into the affair between Victoria and Julian...

    You must see the live version of danse of eternity and see how they master the piece in easy way. That's crazy ! Enjoy ! See the Boston Opéra live session.

    Mike Portnoy :
    Soul & Feeling...
    Mike Mangini :
    Time & Precision...
    Both have their strengths, and i like both of them for different reasons, but being a fan since they began, i have to give the win to Portnoy... If you've stuck with them this long, i think maybe you're a fan!!😎

    I hate to be that guy, but small correction. 46 & 2 pre-dates this album by about 3 years. Tool's AEnima is from 1996, while this came out in 1999. However, you're not alone in making the comparison. Some people even call Home a ripoff of 46 & 2, which I think is ridiculous. The Tool influence on the track is undeniable, but a ripoff? C'mon that's a bit over the top.

    • @kennhern
      @kennhern 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DT has always been called ripoffs for sounding like this or that, but the band is open about being influenced by the music they like. In one of Portnoy's home video documentaries, they had a "wall of inspiration" where they put albums of bands they want to take inspiration from, for instance, in SFAM, The Wall was one of those inspirations.
      They may take something here and there, but their thumbprints are all over their work, making things fresh and original

    • @Beefnhammer
      @Beefnhammer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kennhern Exactly. If nothing else, Dream Theater is a band of music geeks and they wear it proudly. There's a big difference between plagiarizing and celebrating.

    • @smittycal
      @smittycal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the correction. I thought 46 &2 was newer then that for some reason. Now it makes a lot more sense.

  • @alanalanis2257
    @alanalanis2257 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honestly no band comes close. Maybe Haken but no other band can do what Dream Theater does.
