Looks like you had a fantastic trip mate, well done. We are back now and I should have a Jafffa Adventures series on the trip out in the next month or two. Not nearly as quick at editing as you are! Cheers from Jafffa Adventures, safe travels mate.
6:25 Beautiful representation of what and how much fuel consumption to expect. Many many youtubers have failed to update fuel figues. The tracks from west to east increase in complexity and fuel consumption distribution information inspires confidence. Kudos!! :)
Dave is really putting that Shonky engineering to the test lol. Kudos to Dave for getting that big black pig through those dunes, that's impressive. And the 300 keeps plugging along... beautiful scenery, what a great trip.
Haha You met Terry! I ran into Terry from Jafffa Adventure last year up the Cape. We've stayed in touch and I was invited to go on this trip with them.
You are both making it look easy so far. I've had a 950adventure, I now have the rally, so it's good to hear both engines on the video... almost hypnotic listening to them both together.
They are at opposite ends of the adventure bike spectrum but both doing the desert together easily. Dave is a machine man handling that thing through the soft sand!
Gday Sean. I’m really enjoying your trip. Dave has got to be the perfect travelling companion… capable, confident, positive, takes everything in his stride and provides a bit of understated humour! I’m looking forward to the rest of the journey. John.
This series just gets better and better . I love the contrast between your Brindabella trip and the red dirt of central Australia and the Simpson. Immense thanks for doing this guys . Cheers 🙏
Awesome video, what a magic day of outback riding. That CRF is a quality bike, and Dave is obviously a damn good rider wrestling that tank through the sand and not being massively fatigued or spending half the day picking it up. Looking forward to the next one
Awesome. I did the Mt.Dare - French line - Birdsville solo last year. 12.5hrs later total travel time. My ogio saddlebag’s disintegrated and they where 3 weeks old.
If i hold my tyre valve in for 8 seconds on my ttr250 with its current tyre it takes me from 15psi to 10psi. Tested the timing for this at home beforehand to make it easy on the trails. (yours will probs be different and need testing first but its a good way to get fairly accurate pressures when out the boonies without a gauge)
Wow very cool episode I was not expecting anything dramatic but boy was wrong you two always provide. Sean you don’t have to run Dave over on every episode to make them exciting, we love your adventures anyway lol. Amazing fuel economy love your setup. Excellent footage, thanks
Dave's luggage could easily have been a major prob. Funnily enough out adventure riding today with two mates and boy, were we glad we had plenty of cable ties. So far so good then. Enjoy this episode. Good luck fella's
Cool video. I have a 300l which is on the way to meeting similar needs here in NZ. I'm curious about a couple of gaps in your modifications vids. You appear to have a different end cap on the exhaust. Is it still the Moto X? Also you have the CRF 250 Camel tank by the looks. Is that because the new 300 tanks were not available? Cheers you fellas and keep up the good work.
Good spotting. I have replaced the Moto-X muffler with an "Akrapovic" muffler. And yes, the rear tank is one designed for the CRF250L(Rally). I had to custom make all the mounting brackets to suit the new subframe on the CRF300L(Rally). There is currently non available for the 300.
@@ShonkyProductions How does the Akrapovic muffler differ? I have the same 91 tune (95 in NZ & Aus) ECU arriving shortly and am currently undecided about the exhaust.
@@andrewdonaldson9325 I only changed it because I wanted something different to everyone else and so I could tune the noise level to my liking. I've added a custom baffle to the inlet of the muffler and run the baffles in the rear exits also. The Moto-X system is great and a good price also.
Quite right. And a 990 at 315 kg is too big... and also isn't! I think it can be done by a wide range of bikes and riders with good preparation and a good attitude.
Hi, thanks for watching. I have a GoPro 5 and use this mounting case: www.amazon.com.au/Protective-Microphone-Compatible-Accessories-Vlogging/dp/B07P4N4DF9 I use this mount because it holds the camera just that little bit higher and I like the point of view over the Rally screen for my videos. I have made a custom wind sock thing for it to keep wind noise at a minimum.
Loving the series and you've sold me on the CRF Confused re the first night's camp in the desert, did you head down the rig rd to camp, then backtrack to the french line?

Another split desert fox bladder!!!! Mine did the same. We can do better! I'm currently working on a second version of a fuel bladder myself. Dual layer polyethylene bag with an outer silver foil, followed by a stitched envelope made from knitted kevlar, then a second foil bag (to keep the heat out) and finally an acrylic canvas bag to hold it all together. My original version is holding up well. Its a 20L bladder but I think 15L max is good. Ive held fuel in it for weeks without degradation of the bladder or vapor inflation. It holds up well on tbe bike and it folds or rolls easily enough when not needed. I'm working on V2 only because I want to try a few new ideas. I'm thinking of loaning out the V1 bladder for testing. A joint effort by myself at Bright Sparks Garage and a good mate, CreedyFlyr @ RallyFly. 🙂
@@ShonkyProductions this is true mate. I've started on the larger size first only because I had a ready supply of the poly bags. I made the 1st for myself to test the idea and design and once I've got something workable and durable I can purchase the smaller poly bags and work on a 5 to 10L size. With 12l, I can still simply lay the bag over the top of my duffel bag on the rear part of my seat and it conforms over the top like a saddle. Cheers for your reply though, and happy riding and Adventures. 🙂👍🍺🤙
LOL.... Jaffa Adventures... I love watching Jill and Terry and what they get up to..... great to see the 300 Rally doing the Simpson so easy.
Yes, they were great. So happy to have met them.
The CRF appears like a fantastic bike for the simmo great fuel economy for sure.
It is doing a great job, and I couldn't be happier with it.
