This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). How wonderful that you discovered the band Nightwish. That will enrich your life. Singer Floor Jansen is the most versatile female singer in the world. she can do everything with her voice. The other band members are great too. I've seen Nightwish perform for the past three years. I can assure you that it is a spectacle. They are great live, you saw that at their concert in Wacken 2013. Ever heard of Simone Simons, Anneke Giersberg and many other female singers, yes, Floor is versatile but so are tens of other female singers. And if you wanna talk versatile, some life long opera singers do sht that put these girls to shame. They are trained to do only one thing all of their lives, to bend and push the limits of the human voice. So before coldly stating that Floor is the MOST versatile, you might wanna do your research. Floor cannot do everything with her voice, none of us can.
I loved your reaction. It was exactly the same as mine when I first saw this video. Also the first song I ever heard of Nightwish. This was after I heard about Floor Jansen, the latest singer of Nightwish. I read about her in a local news paper around the time she participated in the Dutch TV show “Beste Zangers” (Best Singers). Floor was apparently from around where I live. Before that, she had been on another Dutch TV show called “De reunie” (The reunion) that has famous Dutch people go back to their schooldays along with their classmates. For Floor this was her class from the Rock Academy in Tilburg (NL), a (then) brand new vocational study for all kinds of pop/rock musicians and producers. At the time of the TV show she actually wasn’t the most famous person from that class. At least, she wasn’t in the Netherlands since her genre wasn’t that popular here. There’s a video on TH-cam from this TV show with English subtitles and I think it’s a good place to start to see her journey into Nightwish. I have known Nightwish almost from the beginning, but as a fan I'm a really late bloomer, having to being in love with them for only over three years. Only heard of Nightwish in May 2021 when I signed up to watch the virtual concert. As soon as touring began again i bought tickets . Saw them 3 times in 4 days in Canada and USA May 2022 . Very small venues with no pyro or light boards,.. Amazing. Decided I needed to experience full effect so booked flight to Munich to see them December 2022 . Fantastic! So decided not to worry about debt the size of mortgage and booked to see them again this past June, once in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and next in the bands home town of Kitee, Finland . Perfect!

@@Tommuli_Haudankaivaja Tarja has a great voice and I'm grateful for what she contributed, but Floor has more styles, and it able to switch from one to the other when a song needs it. I also like her harmonies with Marko better, they jave similar styles and they complement each other beautifully. Compare the harmonies in The Islander with Floor and Anneke (they recently did this). Last but not least the pronunciation, Tarja's English is cringeworthy and totaly incomprehensible. 😖 I can only stand that for maybe one or two songs.
Now you've done it Mert. Hope you know what you stepped into. It remembers me of the times of Queen. Innovative music of such a high level. It's a Finnish group with members from different countries. Being Dutch, I should mention that Floor Jansen is the lead singer, and yes, she is from our little country.

They are utterly brilliant and, to many of us, Floor is the best singer out there. They are always top-notch live, and her voice just makes the whole thing very powerful and moving. Instrumentally, a stunning band too, weaving magic out of often complex music, composed by the keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen.
Tarja is the original and the best, floor only sings the songs that Tarja left before she left, since with the new one they have not released any important or good ones
Welcome to the world of epic symphonic metal. This is probably the most well-known song from the set. Since Wacken is THE Metal music festival, the songs are geared towards that. But if you check the song "Storytime" from this festival and from Tampere live, you'll see just how versatile Floor is as a singer. And yes, she is the Valkyrie Goddes of metal.

Dude, you echod my 1st reaction beautifully. This is song 13 of 15 BTW. This whole concert is a phenomenon. The band is Finnish, but Floor is Dutch. The keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, is the composer. Floor is a litteral Goddes, the band brilliant, but Tuomas' compositions and poetic lyrics are next level
Let's not forget that this was a live performance. Most bands would be happy to have this kind of performance stitched together from multiple studio recordings. The Wacken 2013 gig was legendary even in Nightwish history because every song performed there is the best performance of that song ever. My favorite from their Wacken 2013 show is the song called Ghost River.

So cool to see you react to this. I saw this a few years ago and from that minute the band and especially the goddess out front have become a big part of my daily life. The depth of composition, lyric and performance with this band is unmatched in my opinion.
This was the 13th of 15 songs in this concert, Floor had been head banging, windmilling, and dancing for an hour and 10 minutes before this song. She took off one instrumental to change costumes, she started out in long leather pants. Every song in this concert is a winner, you can't miss reacting to any off them. Best band ever with a great singer. Marko (the bass player) is a pretty good singer himself. Welcome to Nightwish! You won't be disappointed. Floor sings everything classical, operatic, even some growling. She can belt with the best of them. I'm 78 and been following Nightwish for over 2 years.
Welcome to the club. I'm a fan of them since 1998 i think, and symphonic metal has become my favorite genre since then. If you like the genre, other bands worth to checkout are Epica, Within Temptation (dutch) Ad Infinitum (swiss) Beyond the Black, Xandria (german) Visions of Atlantis, Edenbridge (austrian) Also "Lovebites" , and all female band from japan, are really great, though they make more power-metal, but also have some pieces that are more symphonic, and they have just become my absolute favorite band in the last years.

Somewhere in the crowd i stand there and had the best life ever. Wacken 2013 was so amazing. It was the most powerful experience of concert i ve ever had with countless Goosebombs. For me Nightwish losing Tarja was so sad and i had a feeling that was it for Nightwish. I just told me come on lets give it a try and go to this concert. Floor came on stage and opened her mouth i was totaly in tears because couldnt believe my ears. Floor touched my soul so hard. It was that moment i felt Nightwish is back with all its glory. I can recommend the whole concert to you it is a rollercoaster of feelings
You're so lucky to have experienced this actual concert. I have seen them live in LA but that wasn't on the scale of Wacken. Also I have to correct a small mistake, even though what you wrote was adorable. It's "goosebumps", not "Ghoosebombs". I like the sound of that though and I appreciate that English isn't your first language.
That must have been an experience. I have looked at the video’s a zillion time, and bought the “CD” from Wacken 2013, to have the music always available.
I went over to Finland from Moray in Scotland to see both Nightwish shows in June and what an absolute pleasure it was see them perform, especially in their home town of Kitee, it was a truly wonderful and emotional experience. There's a new album out next year but sadly no tour, the band are taking a wee break from touring, we will though still be able to see some solo show's by certain band members in the near future, starting in February when drummer Kai plays a solo show in Helsinki; ticket booked!
Great Job! I witnessed their Show in Wembley a year ago, as well as in Stuttgart this year. Due to Floors pregnancy their participation at Tons Of Rock in Oslo was cancelled, so I couldn‘t see them again. But luckily I also saw Floor on her Solotour this year, as well as there supporting act Beast in Black 2 times this year. I can only recommend to follow that kind of music. It is an uplifting experience! Have fun
It is impossible to overstate what a deep hole you have jumped into. Nightwish is an extremely talented band that plays within themselves and lets the overall music rule. Their live performances are always better than studio because they have an extra element. They have a huge catalog going back to 1996. For the first tne years they had a different vocalist who is also very talented and should not be missed. When you have worked your way through Nightwish, there are other bands in the genre who also excellent, two of them would be Epica and Within Temptation.
You've gotten to know Finnish and finally discovered our beloved national treasure, Nightwish. Floor Jansen, she is Holland's gift to Nightwish. The best always gets the best! Cheers!

The singer Floor Jansen is actually Dutch. The band is from Kitee, Finland. They used to have a Finnish singer Tarja Turunen but they changed the singer. There are just so many layers they put into just one song. It's incredible. Loved your reaction to this!

They are so much better live. I'm a metalhead and haven't really enjoyed Nightwish records after Century Child. Saw them at Wacken 2013 and had to agree they are very much heavier live 😀 Still not listening to their studio albums much, but live videos have become a regular thing 😊
Yes I saw them live, last year November 28th in Amsterdam. It was unbelievable good. Extra treat was Henk Poort (Dutch opera singer) on stage doing Phantom of the Opera with Floor. I met Nightwish through Floor on Beste Zangers. I was one of the people that said metal wasn't my thing ☺️. Was I wrong because symphonic metal is GREAT. Have a nice time exploring Nightwish.
Being a british fella I'd suggest the song 'My Walden' instead of following Gabriel's list. It showcases the only Brit in Nightwish, Troy (who is not seen in Ghost Love Score (GLS)). And if you pick the official video from Nightwish youtube channel, it will be performed in Tampere (Finland) - basically their homebase. I've seen them live last year in Berlin. Nightwish is one of the very few bands that sound live better than in a studio. Chose any live performance of them and you'll like it.
Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Having said that, I want to make it clear that I ADORE Nightwish songs, Walking in The Air by Tarja Turunen and Meadows of heaven by Anette Olzon.
it's great to see your reaction, we have seen it many time but it never gets old to see people wondering what the heck they just watched. Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal. I know it sounds pretentious when I say this, but this is probably one of the best concerts ever recorded. The whole concerts is this quality and what you just watched was song 13 out of 15. That 3rd of August 2013 everything in the universe aligned to give us this. You did say however one crucial thing, as magnificent as this is and no matter how much you can feel the energy of the band, nothing, absolutely nothing compares to seeing them live. Enjoy you Finnish journey ( in this case with a Dutch twist - the singer - and there is a 6th person from Cumbria). I belong to the Nightwish Army, but there is more good Finnish music, I saw Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius live yesterday, I recommend both as well
Hello. So, to begin, the band was started in Finland. However the lead singer is from the Netherlands. Her name is Floor Jansen. That feeling you got when you listened to her is so common that there is already a word for it, it's called a Floorgasm.
Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish! my favourite band ever since I heard their leaked demo somewhere around -96/97 ❤❤❤ This is one of their more epic-style songs (but not even the most epic, however their range is absolutely massive! from instrumental tributes to nature, to acoustic heart-breaking bardly ballads to extremely heavy hitting metal songs with growls ❤ Tuomas, the keyboardist is also the composer/poet/storyteller of the band for over 95% of their songs, *which are all this quality!* He is often called the Metal Mozart, a title which I think is more than deserved. Nightwish actually has both lead male and female vocalist, not just the female lead like in this songs. The vocalists have changed a lot over the time since it is such a long running band, but apart from Anette (the second female lead vocalist, with more of pop/rock style), they have all been World's top tier talent. Especially the current female vocalist (which is the one in this video) is technically one of the best female vocalists in the World, with absolutely unbelievable range/control/flexibility with her voice. Particularly professional singers are absolutely stunned when they see/hear her juggle completely opposing styles (which usually requires to be performed on different days) perfectly within one verse... and does it "effortlessly" with no mistakes and live! Marko the bassist in this performance was their main male vocalist during this era, and he is absolutely insane talent as well, and he even won the Finnish masked singer competition a few years back. I recommend following Gabriel's (spearhead of the Nightwish Army, I already noticed you had summoned him to the comments) recommendations if you want to delve deeper into reacting to this band. You can't go wrong with his advice ❤
Calling Tuomas Mozart gives wrong vibes to the listening party if they understand music history because they will assume Tuomas is once in a generation genius that creates totally new genres of music similar to Mozart. Try Metal Wagner or Metal Zimmer instead to better describe what he does.

Nightwish is amazing and Floor's voice is from another galaxy or something. I haven't seen them live yet but it is definitely on my todo-list. I have heard the bassist sing live at heavy christmas concert (yes it is a thing, more closer christmastime people will tell you to react to heavy christmas probably)

It would take days to give you all the basic information about Nightwish and Floor Jansen. The problem with this is that there are simply no words that do justice to the band or Floor. Nightwish concerts are not just concerts, but a journey into a completely different world of music. No other band in the world plays such complex and versatile music and even Metallica are hardcore fans of Nightwish. So if you want to experience music as a real work of art, then you should definitely continue the journey with Nightwish and Floor Jansen. Please stick to the Wacken 2013 for the first songs, before you move on the concerts where Floor is telling stories written to her incredible talent (from 2015). In that way you will be able to follow the evolution Nightwish (all 6 people) started in 2012, when Floor joined / came home so to speak, to her natural environment. Wembley and Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, and Hellfest and Deichband from 2022 are the natural order. And please always go for the live versions if possible - you will be hard pressed to find any other band, that comes even close to Nightwish's live performances
You must listen to The Poet And The Pendulum and Seven Days To The Wolves from Wembley and also The Greatest Show On Earth from Wembley or Tampere. Really, you can't go wrong with ANY Nightwish live performance. As for singer Floor Jansen, she can do anything from Metal screams and growls to grand opera and all in between.

I first found Nightwish when Tarja was the singer. I stopped after she left, as I wasn't into Annette. But I found them again with Floor, and I'm so glad I did. I love Nightwish more now than when I first listened to them. NJ Division reporting for duty.

I was just responding to the way he was affected by Floors talent with a bit of humour. Yes, there is a world of wonderful music to explore outside of Nightwish. I just happen to return to them again and again when I've not found anything I like more. 😊

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

How wonderful that you discovered the band Nightwish. That will enrich your life. Singer Floor Jansen is the most versatile female singer in the world. she can do everything with her voice. The other band members are great too. I've seen Nightwish perform for the past three years. I can assure you that it is a spectacle. They are great live, you saw that at their concert in Wacken 2013. They are trained to do only one thing all of their lives, to bend and push the limits of the human voice.
So before coldly stating that Floor is the MOST versatile, you might wanna do your research. Floor cannot do everything with her voice, none of us can.

I loved your reaction. It was exactly the same as mine when I first saw this video. Also the first song I ever heard of Nightwish. This was after I heard about Floor Jansen, the latest singer of Nightwish. I read about her in a local news paper around the time she participated in the Dutch TV show “Beste Zangers” (Best Singers). Floor was apparently from around where I live. Before that, she had been on another Dutch TV show called “De reunie” (The reunion) that has famous Dutch people go back to their schooldays along with their classmates. For Floor this was her class from the Rock Academy in Tilburg (NL), a (then) brand new vocational study for all kinds of pop/rock musicians and producers. At the time of the TV show she actually wasn’t the most famous person from that class. At least, she wasn’t in the Netherlands since her genre wasn’t that popular here. There’s a video on TH-cam from this TV show with English subtitles and I think it’s a good place to start to see her journey into Nightwish. Only heard of Nightwish in May 2021 when I signed up to watch the virtual concert. As soon as touring began again i bought tickets . Saw them 3 times in 4 days in Canada and USA May 2022 . Very small venues with no pyro or light boards,.. Amazing. Decided I needed to experience full effect so booked flight to Munich to see them December 2022 . Fantastic! So decided not to worry about debt the size of mortgage and booked to see them again this past June, once in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and next in the bands home town of Kitee, Finland . Perfect!

@@Tommuli_Haudankaivaja Tarja has a great voice and I'm grateful for what she contributed, but Floor has more styles, and it able to switch from one to the other when a song needs it. I also like her harmonies with Marko better, they jave similar styles and they complement each other beautifully. Compare the harmonies in The Islander with Floor and Anneke (they recently did this). Last but not least the pronunciation, Tarja's English is cringeworthy and totaly incomprehensible. 😖 I can only stand that for maybe one or two songs.

They are utterly brilliant and, to many of us, Floor is the best singer out there. They are always top-notch live, and her voice just makes the whole thing very powerful and moving. So cool to see you react to this. I saw this a few years ago and from that minute the band and especially the goddess out front have become a big part of my daily life. The depth of composition, lyric and performance with this band is unmatched in my opinion.
This was the 13th of 15 songs in this concert, Floor had been head banging, windmilling, and dancing for an hour and 10 minutes before this song. She took off one instrumental to change costumes, she started out in long leather pants.

Somewhere in the crowd i stand there and had the best life ever. Wacken 2013 was so amazing. It was the most powerful experience of concert i ve ever had with countless Goosebombs. For me Nightwish losing Tarja was so sad and i had a feeling that was it for Nightwish. I just told me come on lets give it a try and go to this concert. Floor came on stage and opened her mouth i was totaly in tears because couldnt believe my ears. Floor touched my soul so hard. It was that moment i felt Nightwish is back with all its glory. I can recommend the whole concert to you it is a rollercoaster of feelings

I went over to Finland from Moray in Scotland to see both Nightwish shows in June and what an absolute pleasure it was see them perform, especially in their home town of Kitee, it was a truly wonderful and emotional experience. There's a new album out next year but sadly no tour, the band are taking a wee break from touring, we will though still be able to see some solo show's by certain band members in the near future, starting in February when drummer Kai plays a solo show in Helsinki; ticket booked!

I witnessed their Show in Wembley a year ago, as well as in Stuttgart this year. Due to Floors pregnancy their participation at Tons Of Rock in Oslo was cancelled, so I couldn‘t see them again. But luckily I also saw Floor on her Solotour this year, as well as there supporting act Beast in Black 2 times this year.
I can only recommend to follow that kind of music. It is an uplifting experience!

It is impossible to overstate what a deep hole you have jumped into. Nightwish is an extremely talented band that plays within themselves and lets the overall music rule. Their live performances are always better than studio because they have an extra element. They have a huge catalog going back to 1996. For the first tne years they had a different vocalist who is also very talented and should not be missed. When you have worked your way through Nightwish, there are other bands in the genre who also excellent, two of them would be Epica and Within Temptation.
You've gotten to know Finnish and finally discovered our beloved national treasure, Nightwish. Floor Jansen, she is Holland's gift to Nightwish. The best always gets the best! Cheers!

They are so much better live. I'm a metalhead and haven't really enjoyed Nightwish records after Century Child. Saw them at Wacken 2013 and had to agree they are very much heavier live 😀 Still not listening to their studio albums much, but live videos have become a regular thing 😊

Yes I saw them live, last year November 28th in Amsterdam. It was unbelievable good. Extra treat was Henk Poort (Dutch opera singer) on stage doing Phantom of the Opera with Floor.
I met Nightwish through Floor on Beste Zangers. I was one of the people that said metal wasn't my thing ☺️. Was I wrong because symphonic metal is GREAT. Have a nice time exploring Nightwish.

I've seen them live last year in Berlin. Nightwish is one of the very few bands that sound live better than in a studio.

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
Having said that, I want to make it clear that I ADORE Nightwish songs, Walking in The Air by Tarja Turunen and Meadows of heaven by Anette Olzon.
it's great to see your reaction, we have seen it many time but it never gets old to see people wondering what the heck they just watched. Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal. I know it sounds pretentious when I say this, but this is probably one of the best concerts ever recorded. The whole concerts is this quality and what you just watched was song 13 out of 15. That 3rd of August 2013 everything in the universe aligned to give us this. You did say however one crucial thing, as magnificent as this is and no matter how much you can feel the energy of the band, nothing, absolutely nothing compares to seeing them live. Enjoy you Finnish journey ( in this case with a Dutch twist - the singer - and there is a 6th person from Cumbria).
I belong to the Nightwish Army, but there is more good Finnish music, I saw Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius live yesterday, I recommend both as well
Hello. So, to begin, the band was started in Finland. However the lead singer is from the Netherlands. Her name is Floor Jansen. That feeling you got when you listened to her is so common that there is already a word for it, it's called a Floorgasm.

This is one of their more epic-style songs (but not even the most epic, however their range is absolutely massive! from instrumental tributes to nature, to acoustic heart-breaking bardly ballads to extremely heavy hitting metal songs with growls ❤
Tuomas, the keyboardist is also the composer/poet/storyteller of the band for over 95% of their songs, *which are all this quality!* He is often called the Metal Mozart, a title which I think is more than deserved.
Nightwish actually has both lead male and female vocalist, not just the female lead like in this songs. The vocalists have changed a lot over the time since it is such a long running band, but apart from Anette (the second female lead vocalist, with more of pop/rock style), they have all been World's top tier talent.
Especially the current female vocalist (which is the one in this video) is technically one of the best female vocalists in the World, with absolutely unbelievable range/control/flexibility with her voice. Particularly professional singers are absolutely stunned when they see/hear her juggle completely opposing styles (which usually requires to be performed on different days) perfectly within one verse... and does it "effortlessly" with no mistakes and live!
Marko the bassist in this performance was their main male vocalist during this era, and he is absolutely insane talent as well, and he even won the Finnish masked singer competition a few years back.
I recommend following Gabriel's (spearhead of the Nightwish Army, I already noticed you had summoned him to the comments) recommendations if you want to delve deeper into reacting to this band. You can't go wrong with his advice ❤
Calling Tuomas Mozart gives wrong vibes to the listening party if they understand music history because they will assume Tuomas is once in a generation genius that creates totally new genres of music similar to Mozart. Try Metal Wagner or Metal Zimmer instead to better describe what he does.

Nightwish is amazing and Floor's voice is from another galaxy or something. I haven't seen them live yet but it is definitely on my todo-list. I have heard the bassist sing live at heavy christmas concert (yes it is a thing, more closer christmastime people will tell you to react to heavy christmas probably)

It would take days to give you all the basic information about Nightwish and Floor Jansen. The problem with this is that there are simply no words that do justice to the band or Floor.
Nightwish concerts are not just concerts, but a journey into a completely different world of music. No other band in the world plays such complex and versatile music and even Metallica are hardcore fans of Nightwish.
So if you want to experience music as a real work of art, then you should definitely continue the journey with Nightwish and Floor Jansen.

And don't worry - you ain't seen or experienced nothing yet - believe me! This song is not even showing 10% of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities (not kidding).
Please stick to the Wacken 2013 for the first songs, before you move on the concerts where Floor is telling stories written to her incredible talent (from 2015). In that way you will be able to follow the evolution Nightwish (all 6 people) started in 2012, when Floor joined / came home so to speak, to her natural environment.
Wembley and Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, and Hellfest and Deichband from 2022 are the natural order. And please always go for the live versions if possible - you will be hard pressed to find any other band, that comes even close to Nightwish's live performances
You must listen to The Poet And The Pendulum and Seven Days To The Wolves from Wembley and also The Greatest Show On Earth from Wembley or Tampere. Really, you can't go wrong with ANY Nightwish live performance.
As for singer Floor Jansen, she can do anything from Metal screams and growls to grand opera and all in between.

I first found Nightwish when Tarja was the singer. I stopped after she left, as I wasn't into Annette. But I found them again with Floor, and I'm so glad I did. I love Nightwish more now than when I first listened to them. NJ Division reporting for duty.

I was just responding to the way he was affected by Floors talent with a bit of humour. Yes, there is a world of wonderful music to explore outside of Nightwish. I just happen to return to them again and again when I've not found anything I like more. 😊
