    When fully run in, the 2.0 engine goes much better than a lot of reviews mention. The car will supposedly do 120 mph, so it's way better than any 2.0 vehicle I've had previously. I quite like the snarl the little engine makes when wound up - that's where the torque comes in and it sounds like it means business :) One thing that most reviews fail to mention is that the Crosstrek has very neutral handling, particularly on dirt roads. In comparison the recent Forester understeers quite heavily when pushed even moderately hard. This was a big surprise when I compared them before buying. Overall the Crosstrek is much more fun to drive IMHO.

    I had a 2016 Subaru Outback with a 2 liter 4 cylinder ( I assume same 2 liter as in the Crosstrek) and I had no problem with town or highway driving regular driving, merging or passing other vehicles on the expressway. Granted its not an engine for the Indy but its not mean for racing either. Great video. Kevin

    The 2024 has way better sharper turns. I had a 2018 Impreza which has the same steering as the old crosstrek and I couldn’t get out of my driveway without touching the plants in the ally when backing up. Now I have room to spare

    Do they tighten up the steering for the wilderness edition?

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t know if they did or not, I haven’t driven a wilderness Crosstrek, but I would imagine the steering feels different because of the bigger tires and lifted suspension

    9:02 - Would the 2024 Impreza be the better decision if I'm pretty much not expecting to go off-road? (I'm also in SoCal). I'm heavily leaning toward new Impreza but pouring rain days and large/deep potholes kinda make me want to consider the Crosstrek.
    I've test driven both the Impreza RS and Crosstrek Sport at the recent LA Auto Show. They both felt almost the same though I very, very slightly preferred the ride quality of the Crosstrek (I had someone sitting behind me say the Impreza ride quality was slightly better though). My main dislike with the new Crosstrek is the amount of body cladding for a city/highway daily, which the Subaru rep that day said to get a Crosstrek in black 😅

    • @brianknight3750
      @brianknight3750 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am in the same situation I like the height of the crosstreck because pot holes and back roads but hate the Pontiac Aztec body clading. Though the red and black look good kinda. What did you end up getting? I really like the looks of the rs.

      @nighthawkvc25a 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brianknight3750 I'm in no rush and am actually waiting for the 2025 models (personal reasons), but still heavily thinking of getting the Impreza RS more so for the looks and uniqueness in SoCal (don't really see Impreza as much as Crosstrek in my area). I'm also leaning Impreza for the slightly better gas mileage according to Car and Driver's real world testing (internet search "Impreza vs Crosstrek mpg").

    • @stevenfactorman1509
      @stevenfactorman1509 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They definitely improved the Impreza compared to its predecessor. However the biggest concern is that it only has 5.1 inches of ground clearance. In the long run your better off paying the premium for the ground clearance and get it on stilts. (Crosstrek)

    • @nighthawkvc25a
      @nighthawkvc25a 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stevenfactorman1509 - Yes, there's the age-old comparison of hatchbacks/sedans vs crossovers for ground clearance, but how would the Impreza clearance compare to the Corolla, Civic, or Mazda3 hatchbacks? For purely street driving, the Impreza seems to still be fine if I wanted to go Subaru and looking for a roomy hatchback.

    • @nighthawkvc25a
      @nighthawkvc25a 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brianknight3750 - I still haven't pulled the trigger and am actually waiting for the 2025 models (personal reason). I'm still leaning Impreza so far for usefulness (basically almost identical body as Crosstrek) at a lower price, uniqueness (it's very rare to see an Impreza in my area), and the slightly better efficiency (based on Car and Driver's real world distance tests of Crosstrek vs Impreza article).
      Ground clearance favors the Crosstrek, yes, and of course that discussion then becomes hatchbacks/sedans vs crossovers/SUV. The other plus for the Crosstrek is the inclusion of the spare tire (though an "Alex on Autos" video shows it's possible to add a spare in the Impreza).
      Decisions, decisions...

    I havee a Subaru legacy i really like the utility and all awd as poor weather and road conditions are common in Pennsylvania. Out pot holes are world famous and have eaten entire buses no joke. The thing i dont like are that it is to low and slow. I have damged my muffler and my drive shaft on bad roads. So i whant the hight and i cant pass on hills it does fine on staight streches but hills it just doesn't have the power. I am interested in the cross treck i like the clearance but hate the the potiac aztec syle body clading and the 2.0 seems to slow as in my legacy that has the same engine. I am also looking at the maverick what are your thoughts on a car less than 27000 i drive 40 miles a day in poor weather i need 4x4 or all wheel drive.

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally I would rather have a Maverick over a crosstrek, but I'm not sure how easy it is to lay your hands on a 4WD Maverick for less than $27k. Crosstrek might be easier on the budget

    Hi Dietrich...you mentioned in your Crosstrek test that you had owned a Subaru Impreza with a similar size engine as the 2 liter base Crosstrek engine and you mentioned no engine performance. Ho was the comfort with the Impreza? I have sat in one and was quite comfortable.I am 5'5" and weigh about 165 lbs. Personally I thought it was a great car. Thanks. Kevin

      I had a 2020 Impreza 2.0i Premium. I found the engine to have adequate power, and I drove it from Orange County, CA up to the Lake Tahoe Area (500ish miles) several times and it was a very comfortable car for me. It was a great daily driver and its actually still in the family, my sister has it now.

      @@CarDietrich Good to hear! Doing a lot of car research now. That way one need not rush to a decision when their current car needs trading-out / selling. I am looking for comfort, a car which can take the bumpy roads I have nearby, safe, and hopefully not good with wind noise. I see to have three choice in the Subaru line. My neighbor has an Outback she likes, though she has poor gas mileage. I think she short drives it all the time. One of the safest cars on the road. But the CrossTrek just looks more a fun-sized car. I like'em all, though they got really crazy with the Tupperware cladding on the Outback snoot! And not sure about hill and passing times. Seems like enough HP, but perhaps the CVT slows down the whole experience. I never owned a CVT car before. Take care, Loren
