100% They are even labelled as "Nuke_Recycling_Bin" on the other hand the item listed as "Warning Barrel" wasn't counted when it is literally a traffic warning barrel.
The number of barrels is actually crazy, I can't think when I last saw a barrel in real life. Sure, many of these maps are in industrial areas, but others are not.
This video reminded me of something barrel related. In 2016, i went to london, and in that trip, i bought an official xbox magazine, it was a normal magazine like any other, but it had somenthing special. in page 15, there was a section called "Barrel watch" in which the editors of the magazine rated the barrel model from 5 different games. I almost forggot about it, but this video reminded me of that. Thanks Philip! (In case someone is wondering, the magazine were the artticle came from is from august, 2016, if anyone wants to see it).
5:10 that type of cone is called a construction/traffic barrel. The wikipedia page is called contruction barrel and I can find many Amazon (US) listings for traffic barrels.
@@Furious321 I believe "drums" is almost exclusively a US term for them. They're hardly a versatile container though-like actual barrels should be-as all they hold is the weight of sandbags (which are to keep the drums grounded). Sandbags that can just be placed outside & around the drum instead anyways. IMO they're a disgrace to actual barrels, and should remain excluded to protect the purity of the list.

I've always called the 'cones' on vertigo safety barrels, as well as most people I know. After all, they can't be cones, they're clearly cylindrical, which is a very barrel shape.
I would argue that the giant barrels on Vineyard count since they're on pallets and are therefore meant to be transported, while things such as the silo are structures or machinery.

Very unusual topic to make a video about... Barrels, barrels everywhere. That was always a pattern I notice the most in CS Source and ofc in CSGO but let's not forget CS1.6 because it has its own barrels, not in big quantities but they were there. I was thinking, maybe in the map development department, they were like "guys we are running out of ideas, what can we place as props in the map?" the rest of the team were like "throw barrels but lots of them".

That is actually an interesting video, this shows a shift in Valve's map design, allocating boxy props more spotlight and completely forgetting about barrelled like props. The only time I think of hiding behind a barrel is on Dust 2 Top Mid, and even then I feel unsafe and always doubt whether I am exposed to an AWP or not.
Watched with my brother, pausing and guessing amount of barrels each time, and were continually surprised. The technical details were captivating and explained well, and it was accompanied by beautiful music and stunning photography. A great tribute to a guide on such a niche topic.

Philip, those warning barrels are obviously barrels. I mean you were prepared to call them cones, but did you stop to ask yourself what a cone is? Also wikipedia calls them traffic barrels and also gives a distinction to traffic cones
The vertigo ones? No way they're barrels, they don't store anything. Barrels store stuff. Doesn't mean anything that stores stuff is a barrel, but if it can't store stuff then it's not a barrel.

Also, fun fact, if you cheat air strafe to at least 36 (BHop servers usually have it at 100), you can get out of bounds next to the timetrial area and explore it completely. Did you know it has very tall invisible walls? Yet I could cross them by going to the roof while out of bounds

Does anyone remember that oldskool video on CS:Source, in which someone shot the barrel perfectly on the bombsite of The Dust and it placed itself ontop of the bomb? Bots were not able to defuse the bomb, they tried without prevail and it eventually exploded. Amazing piece of barrel history, that was.
