Having just my own two car garage I could setup as my own. A non shared workspace was the dream. Shop was the ultimate goal. It still feels a bit surreal to have not only my own shop. But one with AC.
I feel like once you're in the big shop the quality and overall vibe is just going to explode into something more epic than it already is. The stoke is real.
Taylor, as a fellow technician I couldn't help but notice the front end of the car drop more and more when you are working on disassembling the rear end. It looks kind of substantial. I would recommend changing your lift points, or supporting the front end with either an overhead jack or a regular jack stand when all that weight is out of the rear. I have heard horror stories of some corvettes flipping off lifts, just don't want to see you get hurt.
I cannot wait to see this car drift. Also I cannot wait to HEAR it! Man, without spending the money and time, I feel like I’m so invested in this build and am so excited for you Taylor
Hope you realize how blessed you are to have your buddy helping you with this build. I had 3 people back in the day helping build my stock cars; ME, MYSELF, AND I and two of them got tired pretty fast.
Not to take away from the point of being blessed, because he is, but his friend is also on payroll. If you can have your friend help you with a project AND pay them for their time, that is a blessing.
Mini splits were the best choice I have ever made for my shop. 70 year round is great. I went with Mr cool but didn't go with the diy kit, purging with nitrogen and running a vacuum pump isn't all that difficult
Great to see the payoff, been following since you bought the house. Excited to see the whole place setup! As for the pie cuts....I always use a carbide bit in my die grinder. Works fast...no dust...just those pesky needle like shavings...but it's the best solution I've found. Keep up the great work guys!
You probably allready thought of that but don't forget ventilation in the shop. Being that insolated even a running car makes a lot of fumes, welding and griding make more too
Hey Taylor, I use bolt through cable nipple clamps (hehe but that’s what they are called) on classic vespa gear shifter cable ends. Never had even a poorly torqued one let go. I’ve not seen it done but you could drill a hole for a safety wire for extra redundancy and quick removal.
i have ac in my shop and i do the same thing with the garage door lol! I litterally try to be as fast as possible and keep the the door open as little time as possible to minimize losing all the cold air. Definately a struggle when things need to go in and out frequently!
@@ElectronicMechanic50 i second that want! Lol thatd be wonderful. Cant tell you how many times ive had to diagnose somthing outside because cars cant run inside without killing you
One thing I love seeing that is so insignificant is the shake test. Everybody needs to do it anytime the car goes up, regardless of the method used. Takes two second to test your support and saves your life if it happens to not be as sturdy as you thought.
We are using a red devil blade on our chop saw at work. One of the not so bright kids in the shop cut a 2x2 solid chunk of steel on it. To my surprise it still cuts like a hot knife through butter after that I am very impressed.
I wanted to suggest vinyl strip curtains to help keep the cool air in with the garage door open. I know BMW repair shops and some other luxury car shops tend to rely on those or a secondary door. It could be a DIY project that you accomplish yourself. Keep up the amazing work.
If you get a new window AC check out a 15000 BTU, It's the biggest 115V. The model is LW1516ER,I have one of these, and cools my whole 1200 sq ft downstairs. It's 400-500 depending on site and timing.

Pleasee take your time when you put it back together I only wish nothing goes wrong the first time you ride it , we all care so much about you And want you succes at the same time ! But your such a beast im not stressed out , keep it up man you're killin it !
Every time I see you drilling with a hand-drill like that (exhaust support); I think to myself how much easier your life would be with even a cheap drill press. Between that and a lathe, you would be able to fabricate almost anything.
And that was about the Throtle cable. Great video, I am real glad you are getting it done! I can't wait to see your first run in it! Keep the content coming!
I love the fact that I’ve been watching Taylor Ray long enough that I can tell the end of the video is near by listening to how tired his voice sounds. This guy puts in ridiculous hours. Incredible work ethic!
So stoked to see the vette getting finished up and can literally see your excitement increase with every little finishing up project complete. Also can't wait for you to swing that thang around I know it's going to be an awesome feeling of accomplishment for you and Jose to have her out there slaying comps! On another note I am also super excited to see you guys get the Cefiro back up and going as well! I know how much you enjoy that car and I have a feeling I'm not alone as a viewer lol. You guys keep up the hard work can't wait to see it pay off! 💯
That's the best thing working with friends you can throw the banter around and have a laugh and keep working and not get offended like if they were an employee
Swivel head deburring tool. I buy them at lowes or Home Depot in the plumbing section. They greatly reduced my deburring time even though I finish it up with a flap drum.
When cutting with your saw make sure that the blade is up to speed before making contact with your material. Also get some cutting grease, it really helps with the blade life.
i would for sure consider an internal hex set screw for the throttle cable, Philips heads should only be used in low clamping force applications if refastening is frequent
agreed. there's not a lot of spring tension but over time it could create a vague feel. I also wrestle with the quandary about permanently fixing the throttle body ferrule as I have to take the end off to service things.
Taylor I love your attention to detail and it really shows on this build, specifically on the throttle cable. Multiple points of failure and you’ve considered every single one, this vette is going to destroy klutch kickers and every other competition
Most people won’t start building a car let alone a car in that caliber without a lift this goes to show your dedication and how talented you are at building cars
Try using a cylindrical tungsten carbide bit for deburring a bunch of cuts quickly. They also make a hand tool for deburring pipes or holes manually when you need more precision.
The solderless nipple on the end of the throttle cable put a second solderless nipple up against the the other one as we used to use a lot of them on the Karts and even on the clutch cables on the gearbox karts and as long as you use two they stay in place so on the throttle body you will be pretty well safe of them not slippin.
Use some pipe foam insulation tube on the roll bar back bars where they pass through your fire wall… make the blank plates to suit this larger diameter… should already match your cut outs in the fire wall where you have clearance for the bars already.
I am so happy to see you in the garage even if it is temporary. I really do recommend that you put up 2 ceiling fans in the new shop. One in the front and in the back. Center them in the middle. You will also save on your electric bill with the fans. I really thought that you would have went with solar panels on the roof of the garage.
Suggest: Big Ass Fans. They are a real company and I have specified them on projects. Be careful: They are big ass fans and could blend the contents of your enclosure. Don't turn the dial to 11.
Hey, most tool shops offer saw blade sharpening. They send them off to a company, but it is a lot cheaper than sending them yourself. I do this with those large 14inch metal cutting blades and all other saw blades, and I always find it worth it.
Great video my dude.. Im having memories of your first vette build when like nobody was drifting c5s and no parts were really available and now you can just build whats not there!
this probably won't be seen but, In the future when you do a throttle cable you don't need that big of a slot it only has to be big enough to slip the actual cable through. That's how a lot of equipment is ran, that slot only needs to be about a 16th of an inch and you can have a whole however large you want for the cable. This works on both sides of the cable, so it would also work under the intake. Love the content keep it up!
The drift Corvette is looking sick! I hope you are going to paint/wrap the outside red! New shop is dope too! Congrats on stepping up to that next level!
I would suggest a single cut, carbide burr set and a die grinder for deburring the stainless. Double cut for aluminum....Beats the heck out of going through sanding drums and/or flap wheels.
Hey taylor you should make a list of bolts to tighten and things to check in order of mandatory to not. That way when youre in competition its easy to keep track of what you need to do in between rounds and such.
Yo Taylor, one thing we've learned on the TransAm cars is to paint mark bolts that have been torqued. I especially do this when building new floating rotors and stuff where it's absolutely critical. Makes for a quick visual "Yep, I got that one..."
Taylor, for deburring larger pipe try a quick-strip disc. I've used them occasionally and they seem to be really tough, don't know how long it would last with how much pipe you're going through but worth a shot.
Sorry if someone else mentioned this earlier (I didn't read all the comments). This beautiful work space is going to necessitate adding a microphone to cut down the echo. Maybe a nice small bluetooth clip on mic would work and not be in the way. Enjoying the build and looking forward to audio clarity.
