Enjoying bookmas is an understatement!! Also I 100% agree about twilight and hunger games. Twilight being cringe is true but yes we all still watch the movies and will until we die! the point is that they didn’t change major plot points and kept changes overall to a minimum. Hunger Games was so spot on that it’s definitely my favorite series to get an adaptation. I really enjoy the trend of a mini series for books because it’s the only way to really get it right these days. Great casting, not a rushed story that forces them to cut things, and visuals done right. Hoping they don’t screw up Evelyn Hugo and daisy jones
THANK YOU. I will admit, I love the after series. It was such a big part of the beginning of my teenage years, and I was BEYOND thrilled that they were becoming a movie series. I watched the first movie in theaters the DAY it came out and let me tell you… I left that theater crying because I was so upset. It made me FURIOUS how much they changed. Especially things about their relationship and the things that made Hardin himself and what made Tessa herself. It was just so bad. So thank you for bringing this up. I love you.
Heartstopper is one of the few good adaptations and im soo thankful (its my alltime fav comfort read) and i know the fear about people judging it solely by the series
The worst book to movie adaptation I’ve ever seen was Love & Gelato. LOVED the book, couldn’t get through more than 20 minutes of the movie. So, so different. Fun video!
I read ‘you’ by Caroline Kepnes randomly on a plane ride a few years before the first season was announced on Netflix and my sheer excitement and surprise has not been met since then, such a good feeling and one of my favorite adaptations!
ok so hear me out as a film student. a screen writer explained to us that sometimes they write screenplays and then link it to a book or play that is somewhat similar after the screenplay is written. in order for producers to bother making the movie they want to make sure people will watch it, so they tie it with something that already has a fan base. the film industry is all about making money. I understand people's frustration when movies change a lot, but it is more than likely because they are not trying to follow the book.
I read Where The Crawdads Sing and then I went and saw the movie and I just sat there the whole time thinking “yeah it didn’t happen like that in the book” 🥴
when it comes to the mortal instruments I saw the movie when it came out after starting the book series and will say Shadowhunters the tv show, though I do remember it having it's own differences obviously it was a stronger adaptation of the Shadowhunter universe so it was good it got a second chance of being adapted. This is coming from someone too who doesn't read a lot of fantasy. So would recommend checking it out.
I love your channel, and I completely agree with this video. but i just wanted to let you know that City of Bones (actually the entire Mortal Instruments series) was adapted into a series (much better) after the movie failed. the series is called shadowhunters.
about the mortal instruments, i'll literally never get over. i really loved the first book it was just magical to read, so i was so damn excited that they were making the first movie (actually as soon as the first one was released they were filming for the second book as well but after the review from city of bones they put the production on hold and then cancelled) anyways, as i was saying, it does makes me sad bc the problem was the SCRIPT. all the actors were fine, the acting was ok for me, AND the chemistry between lily and jamie i could just DIE thinking about it! also doesn't help that they were actually in love during the movie and dated for almost 1 year before breaking up AND later got back to stay more monthsssss together again
a rare case where the movie was better than the book was my policeman in my opinion. I did love the writing of the book and it was truly a beautiful book and story but there are a few parts in the movie that were harder to describe in writing so got more emotion out of me when I was seeing them with my own eyes (mainly the very last scene)
Destiny. Love your videos however could I please make a suggestion. The microphone: it does make you louder however because you talk with your hands so much and I stream you through my hearing aids your going from loud to softer to loud again and it starts to give me a headache is there a way to clip it to your shirt or something so that your volume and tone is consistent? Thanks for sharing your love of books with us! Merry Christmas!
@@whatsdesreading girl it totally can be in the videos. It definitely does make you louder and you can walk away and we can still hear you! I just didn't know if you could clip it on you verses hold it. It would make it easier for you too so you can use both your hands. Don't not use it because of me. I love your videos and your quality gets better each time! Just throwing out a suggestion boo boo! 😀 hugs and high fives! 🤗
yay! i love book/movie boyfriends and books lol. i read the acotar series first, excited for the movies or show. i was a jacob fan for twilight, sorry edward made me mad. lol ilyyyyyy
I feel like the bad adaptioons happen less with TV shows. In fact, a TV show can even IMPROVE upon books, because you can flesh out and spend more time with characters, whereas with movies every moment is supposed to matter. That doesn't mean it always does and in movie adaptions of books they tend to forget this, like they feel they can throw whatever in in oprtions and it'll go over well. But a great book to TV show adaption is Just Add Magic, and the books themselves are kind of wonky, but the show is GENIUS, the characters amazing, everythign so riveting. And like maybwe something literary such as Where the Crawdads Sing can do what people want to in a film, and also YA romance should, such as To All the Boys, and then if it's a book to movie series, like they individualize the films, instead of rushing everything, then yeah, that can go well too. I do NOT count a trilogy as a series though. It has to have four or more books to qualify. Therefore, the Hugner Games last two movies messing up doesn't contradict what I just said. It is a trilogy, it can easily bungle things. Same for Divergent. And to further confirm my thoery, Twilight has five movies, from four books. And yes, some fans of the books have issues with the films, but they still do enough alike the books and even the alterations made were acceted, and perhaps with the resurgence people apperciate it even more than they did back in 2008-2012 when these movies were comign out.
I was a teenager during the Twilight era and yes I loved the books so much (went to a midnight release party for the final book) but absolutely hated the movies. I haven't read the books in about 12 ish years and I really want to re-read them soon and see what I think of them as a full grown adult 😅
I refuse to reread the twilight books as an adult, I just know for a fact that rereading them will destroy my nostalgia of them. I won't even read Midnight Sun lol.
loved this video so much!!! me before you is suuuuuuuch a good adaptation in my opinion, i reread the book this year and some quotes were literally kept the exact same in the movie, i will forever cherish this adaptation 💞💕💝💘💖💗💓
You're are killing bookmas, i literally only come onto youtube to watch your videos. Ive only recently found your channel and you have quickly become my favourite youtuber 🤩
For the city of bones series, you should watch the tv show and make the comparison. I loved the tv show (on hulu) and i literally only watched 20 mins of the movie since it was so bad!
Omg I made a comment about there’s someone inside your house before , saying how bad this pissed me off. Girl do you remember how Ollie was described? He was described as this pink haired, pieced, social outcast bad boy lil hottie so when the movie came out I was like “ a hot bad boy? Hell yeah” just to see someone that looked the complete polar opposite and im like “ who tf is that?” And don’t even get me started on the kill scenes. Literally, the first kill scene in the movie didn’t even fucking happen in book with a completely different character , and all the characters that did get killed off did so completely wrong. they left out all the best parts……this movie brings out a different type of anger in me lmao😂
This is a weird example, but when I was younger, I read the upside down magic series. Fast forward, and I find out there's a movie. Honestly, the only similar thing is the names of the characters.
i watched along for the ride which is a movie of along for the ride by sarah dessen and i thought they did a really good job w it, there were some small differences but overall really similar
6:18 I was Team Jacob. Overall though I am more of a Harry Potter person. Have you read Midnight Sun yet Destiny? 9:15 Completely agree. 10:46 I love The Hunger Games…much better than Twilight honestly.
I agree the summer I turned pretty is really good. Also the maze runner had good movies the books weren’t that great. The adaption that’s really bad is all the mortal instruments ,the show and the movie is bad all around but Jamie killed it.After was really bad ,the first movie was okay but the other ones were as hot mess lmaoo
My most favorite book when I was young was All the bright places by Jennifer Niven and then years later the movie came out and how they meet in the book was not how they meet in the movie they completely changed the whole story !!
I’m only 26, but when you said that you were in elementary school when the Hunger Games came out, it made me feel SO old 😅 I was in high school when those came out.
I still need to watch the shadow and bone tv show. I didn't like the immortal movie but have you seen the tv show for city of bones yet? The tv show is a lot better than the movie...
OH MAH GOSH. In my opinion the city of bones movie is a little more accurate towards the book than the show, but you have GOT to finish the series it gets so much better
2022 was the year of book to movie adaptation announcements lol it was crazy...the love triangle of twilight confuses me bc Jacob never imprinted on Bella so even if they did date it wouldn't have lasted since she wasn't his mate
Im crossing my fingers that they don’t ruin the adaptation to daisy jones and the six or a good girls guide to murder. They are my favourite books and i would hate for them to get ruined!! the summer i turned pretty was such an amazing adaptation love and gelato movie was horrible.
Sooo true about all your opinions, but more especially « After ». The books were good but OMG the movies are so bad… My friend and I were so shock about Hardin!? We weren’t expecting him hahaha
I’d say… In her Shoes- the movie was better than the book. Confessions of a shopaholic- different but cute in different ways. My best friend’s exorcism- I can understand why they made the changes they made for the movie but the book was better. The maze runner movies- I loved the first one but the second movie was terrible. And I love Hunger Games- Agree with you on that one!

I'm so nervous about watching 'The Girl on the Train' because that book changed me. I know that movie will not give since it's not even set in London 😒
So sad that you don’t like the After series because it’s my favorite series of all time. I also feel like the movies only really make sense if you’ve read the books
I read My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult and then say there was a movie adaptation. It was bad and the ending was not even what happened in the book and I’m like why did you have to change that detail???

same here 😭 if they mess up ANY of the characters i’m going to be so angry
In all honesty I’d rather have nothing for acotar than something that’s done terribly
The worst book to movie adaptation I’ve ever seen was Love & Gelato. LOVED the book, couldn’t get through more than 20 minutes of the movie. So, so different. Fun video!
110% agree
I CAME HERE TO SAY THIS
There was basically nothing from the book in the movie
I read ‘you’ by Caroline Kepnes randomly on a plane ride a few years before the first season was announced on Netflix and my sheer excitement and surprise has not been met since then, such a good feeling and one of my favorite adaptations!

I loved the twilight books and the movies. Definitely one of the good adaptions. Also loved the adaptation of where the crawdads sing xx
Idc what anyone says bc the part in breaking dawn part 2 where they have the fight scene is still one of the most influential movie scenes for me lol

I honestly did not like the after movies from the second one, the movies are not it, I feel like they shouldn't even be together coz they soo toxic🤧
I wish they left it as 1 book because no
@@lorenthebrat9304 I agree, like every book/movie is the same thing they always fighting, making up then fighting again and it's soo toxic
