    It's funny how Xiaomi started working on car when there were rumours of Apple car - and they actually managed to make it into reality while Apple scrapped the idea.

    28 grand!? No wonder the USA automakers are scared 💩 and using lobbying to have high tariffs. I love to support home grown companies but the greed here is out of control and the only people making real money are the douche bags at the top. I hope these cars come here and put these companies in place. Tired of the greed and they just use the government to get their way. The hard workers aren’t getting paid. Well if you want to buy a car made with people getting $8 an hour, go for it. That's not bad for the cost of living in China, but you can only keep doing this so far before bankrupting your own economy.

      @@sprockkets I don't think labor costs can account for much of the share in modern auto manufacturing. The cost control of Chinese EVs is achieved by their domestic supply chain. They can build the entire car from iron ore inside China.

    • @CampGareth
      @CampGareth 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are limits to the phone-as-infotainment thing. Phones must fit in a pocket and even foldables top out at ~8 inches while car displays are 10-15. So a tablet then? But the mount must be rock solid, it cannot move while being prodded or going down a cobbled street. There's integration too, if a car has a HUD that can display GPS directions usually that's only if you use the built in satnav not your phone.
      I think phone-as-infotainment makes sense in low end vehicles like a Dacia Spring but not high end ones.

    • @theelectricmonk3909
      @theelectricmonk3909 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CampGareth Eh, no - you plug your phone into the car, and the car uses the phone as a source of data. My MG4 does that - it doesn't have its own satnav, so I plug my phone in & get Google maps satnav (just like on my phone, only on the car screen). It also automagically handles incoming voice calls (video calls confuse the crap out of it though!)... so whilst it's far from perfect, it does work quite well; and as long as Android Auto (or Apple Car Play) keep being updated, I guess the capabilities of the link will continue to improve too.
      Where it's limited is if your phone is a bit shit (and mine's a Xiaomi phone - albeit an older one that's seen a couple of years of use), sometimes it can take a good couple of minutes for the satnav to come up. The other thing I find a tad annoying is only one of the two front USB ports supports Android Auto (and it's not the USB3 port), and anyway why can't it do everything wirelessly? I should be able to plonk my phone down on an inductive charging pad & have all the Android Auto functions available via Wifi... ah, maybe one day.

    This car has been an absolute horror show reliability and build quality wise in China. You should see how the company conducts itself when dealing with the complaints. It's downright shameful. I'd probably drive the car once just to see how it feels. But i would never own one. No thank you.
