I was so happy to see Tanganyika cichlids in this video! I based my 75 gal community around Julie Transcriptus because I fell in love with their checkerboard look, but I love the golden/ornatus Julies from the video too. Never heard of the Checkerboard Cichlid though
Most tanganyikan cichlids dig up plants so you don’t see them in planted tanks too often, but prime time aquatics does really good videos that include good plants for those tanks
Wonderful list! Every one of these would be a wonderful choice to add to a small tank. I think my favorite on the list that I hadn’t seen before is the checkerboard. They were so interesting looking and I loved how they moved together snooping around the tank. Fun video!
Multis!!!! I love mine😍 Never thought I would have cichlids but Mr Prime Time's species profile convinced me lol The Neolamprologus caudopunctatus are also adorable!! Great picks Joanna
Cool looking cichlids. I love the black mollies in that one tank with them. They are one of the blackest I have ever seen. Really cool! Another great video, Joanna.
fantastic list Joanna! i honestly love every fish on this list!😮dwarf cichlids seriously rock! another for you to check out the laetacara araguia a truly stunning dwarf cichlid as well🙂👍
I want this entire list!!! This summer I am planning on setting up a 20L.... I have soft water so Apistos would make more sense but I've wanted Multis for years! I think in the next year I will set up separate tanks for Kribs, Apistos, and Multis!
great video Joanna, some good options certainly. though i would point out one thing: it is a misconception that ram needs lower pH and higher temperature. they can be found in pH 8 or so in the wild, in some region. the temperature varies between 76-82. the "higher temperature" is half myth half truth, the same goes for discus. the farm raised ones do prefer warmer water, but that is because they were raised in warmer water for growth, so they reach the market sooner and thereby increasing the turnover rate. as a species though... they do just fine across a range of conditions. in fact it may be advisable to gradually lower the temperature so their metabolism can be slowed down for aquarium longevity.
So happy to see the lake tanganyika love here. Those smaller African cichlids get over looked at lot. On a side note: how many mystery snails can he kept in a 10 gallon with shrimp? I have 6 currently in my 29 but want to convert that to an ornatus tank.
My favorite and beloved Cichlids are the Julidochromis, German Blue Ram, Bolivian Ram, and Kribensis!! 🤍 (I also love the Flag Cichlid, and the Golden Dwarf Acara!!)
I’ve only kept the blue ram and I loved him. Had so much personality. Would like to keep a pair of apistogramma agassizii in the future. They just look cool to me. 😎
Awesome! Maybe cool to know, i just found out a new version of the Apistogramma agassizii called: apistogramma agassizii Blue Flame. It has that same electric blue color.
I love kribs and julli, been keeping & breeding them sometimes for almost 30years, neither have been diggers in my tanks, i have micro gravel not sure if substrate makes a difference, awesome video, love you guys ❤️
Awesome video Joanna ! Thanks 😊. Hey do you guys have a care video for the neolamprologus caudopunctatus? I didn't see a pop up for one or i missed it. 🤷♀️
I got 3 multi's about 3 weeks ago and they have already multiplied to 11 with 2 having 4 babies each, haha. Looking now at a low boy like what you guys have!
I love this list!! I'm tempted to do shellies and juliis together in a 29 gal for my first chiclid tank - do you think I need a 40 breeder or can I do it in the 29?
Question. I'm going to set up a 250g freshwater tank. I like the idea of having a bunch of nano fish in a large tank, but I'm almost feeling like they'd get lost in all of the aquascape and I wouldn't be able to keep track of die offs. I would also love to keep some geophagus though. What are your thoughts on this? I love severums as well, so I'm torn between the nano fish or larger species. Is there a any other reason why nano fish wouldn't be the best choice for a 250g tank?
Hi Joanna great video!! Plant question for you-I have an established planted tank. I’m setting up a new tank. The question is if I move some of my crypts from the established tank to the new tank are they still going to melt???
I'm not as knowledgeable as Joanna, but I have transferred crypts from established to new tanks with great success and minimal melting. The substrate type was simila. Lighting levels were also similar.
Loved this cute little video- but is it just me or did she forget to name the last fish? I didn’t see it printed or said? If you know what it is, can you please tell me!
I love my electric blue rams. I have 2 male 1 female adults. I lost 3 due to "do not change your water" from a TH-camr that i wont name here. Now with the help of Seachem Prime I change my water every other week. and they are just fine. I also took out some eggs and I have about 40 EBR fry they are about 3 months old now and have joined their parents in the 20 gallon. I should probably change the water weekly now. )O+

Can they be put in a planted tank?

Can Neolamrologus and Multis be housed together??
@ Multi is the nickname for Neolamprologus multifasciatus
Cool looking cichlids. I love the black mollies in that one tank with them. They are one of the blackest I have ever seen. Really cool! Another great video, Joanna.
Great list Joanna!!! I will have to try some of these nano cichlids.
I hope you do! 😊
Love my electric blue rams. Love your choice 🎉
The last fish show-cased on this video I would love to try. It's gorgeous! I love your channel! Thank you. 🥰
❤ thank you Joanna for some wonderful small tank cichlid options!
Electric blue ram for me, my little guy in my 29 is a great character! Glad he made the list ❤
Love my Apistogramma Panduro!! So cute with a great personality 😊
fantastic list Joanna! i honestly love every fish on this list!😮dwarf cichlids seriously rock! another for you to check out the laetacara araguia a truly stunning dwarf cichlid as well🙂👍
Apistogramma borellii and trifasciata are two of my favourite apistos. Awesome channel 🤙🏼
I have a Bolivian Ram in my 20 gallon community tank. They are fun to watch
Loved the list! I was happy to see the Bolivian Ram on it. I adore them. Had a group a long time ago. I have one little beauty at this time 🥰
Aren’t they amazing?! I miss having them but happy you still have one lovely centerpiece one left, Audra! 😊
How many of these can I have in a 20g?
Love the multis - shell dwellers
Many wonderful species! I have enjoyed keeping shellies and julies before.

Great selection of nano cichlids. Thanks for sharing. I don't have a favorite cause i love them all.
I have two julies and 4 Multis together. Can I add 4 Neolamrologus too? Do they suit well?
I’ve only kept the blue ram and I loved him. Had so much personality. Would like to keep a pair of apistogramma agassizii in the future. They just look cool to me. 😎

What substrate do you use. I’m fixing To set up a Mumba tank. Enjoy watching your videos

I kinda think of multis as the fish equivalent of an ant farm.
😂
I love ny shell dwellers and my kribs... definitely want to try some electric blues!
Awesome video Joanna ! Thanks 😊. Hey do you guys have a care video for the neolamprologus caudopunctatus? I didn't see a pop up for one or i missed it. 🤷♀️
Yes we do! 😊 Try this: th-cam.com/video/yr8D1DczL88/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cWvmMTT0F70-6XPQ
Awesome video! Is it possible to keep corys with kribs or apistogramma?

The filtration needed for a tank that big. Might cause too much water flow for some nanos to handle
If you have a 15g all in tank can you keep a Apistogramma or a BlueRam in it

@@lizettebusquets4305 Thank you so much for the advice. I was hoping they wouldn’t melt back too bad. Never moved them before. 🤞
Thanks!

Hello! Glad you liked it! 😌 it’s listed at 9:33 neolamprologus caudopunctatus. They’re so lovely! 😊🤍💛💙
@@thesmallscape Awe! Thank you - they look like little angels!
I would love to try shell dwellers or neolamprologus but I’m worried about what happens when there are too MANY babies for the tank 😢
Can you keep Neolamrologus and Multis together in a 2 feet tank???
My favorite tiny cichlids are Taeniacara Candidi and German Rams
Apistos can be kept in hard water? I’m on a well, so top end of hardness… I’ve researched and most say they need soft water, Thanks!
Electric blue jack Dempsey is my fav
Ok.
Can Buenos aides tetras be tank mate for these cichlids?
My two dest fish are the BlueRam and the Apistogramma
