I had a similar issue after rebuilding the carb on my '66 6hp. Ended up being the float adjustment. It's not enough to set the level. You also need to check that the float doesn't hang low enough to touch the bowl. The float in my Sierra rebuild kit was hanging against the bowl, so it would never rise and close the needle valve. Problem solved by bending the smaller tab behind the tang, so as to not let the float contact the bowl when opened.
Oh, and not sure about the fuel circuits on that carb. But the carb on my '72 25hp: The slow speed circuit branches off the high speed. All fuel comes through the high speed at the bottom of the bowl. When the bowl is full, under no circumstances should you be able to squeeze more fuel into the carb from the primer bulb. The float needle absolutely must open first.

Damn, I do that all the time with small parts. After that motor goes to a new home, and you give up looking ; that pin will magically appear right at your feet!
I know on my 9.9hp I decide to put a kit in carb. to be proactive and it caused me issues.Needle wouldn’t seal off when bowl filled.Ended up just putting old needle and/or seat in and problem solved.That Will tach me to try and be proactive again.lol..Gald to see your getting some of those bass.
Cool you are finally saving your arm with the drill motor starter. Not recommended out in the lake though since it requires a 2 mile extension cord🤣 it's shockingly expensive too
Your friend Kodibass substituted that eluding roll pin for an appropriately-sized drill bit cut to lenght. A cheap, effective and simple hack from Kodiak.. As to the no-start situation, I'd also check the reed valves to make sure they close tight. Take care and be merry !
Great Vid - Coils need to be replaced - they are going bad. that's why you had weak spark on one cylinder? Consensus of opinion is needle/seat not correct, but you are very meticulous in setting your carbs so I'm interested in seeing the end result. Hope you get that 25 Johnson. I have one just like it in about the same shape and would really enjoy your vids on putting it together.
Yeah it was in the 70's that morning. Buy the time I loaded up and got across the lake the temp dropped 20 degrees. Weird to have a cold front come through in the morning. I had to run home and suit up! My neighbor went kayaking in the river and he did the same thing. Hahaha Thanks !
If I remember right, when you took the carb off the float wasn't level. The needle wasn't even attached right. Maybe the reason it was set up awkward. Just a thought
I wonder if you dunked a roll pin in paint and then looked away for a few minutes if it would leave a trail to where all the lost roll pins jack knives and lighters are cached ? If you do; more than a few are mine!

I have the service manual for my 1969 6 hp Johnson and it says for champion plugs 4J4 AC is M42K and auto light is A21X see you on the next one
