      @@RobTrek by the way Rob, I have a question for you since you also own a e-m1 mark II. Regarding sports shooting, I know the e-m10 ii is not as good as the e-m1 ii on AF-C, but can you shoot sports with the e-m10 ii? Because I was thinking on getting a e-m1 ii, but it's still a bit expensive in my opinion. Thanks.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bdssoaz You can, but the keeper rate is pretty low. On a good day, I can get 50%. Set your continous shutter down to 3fps, use c-af without tracking, 9 point or single point if you're good. Turn off face detect. Make sure your shutter speed is 1/400th or faster and auto iso up to 25,600. Sports shooting is definitely a challenge for all but the em1-ii and em1-x. I'll have to go to a sports game around here and try my hand. It's not an area I've done.

      @@RobTrek Thank you for the fast response. I will try it for sure, I really appreciate the tips 👍 I probably get an e-m1 ii by the end of the year, just waiting to see if the price gets lower. But for now, my good old e-m10 ii will do the job. I guess you got yourself a challenge too 😁. Cheers!

      F22 is still there but the EV is all of a sudden +2.0...

    Excellent post, Rob. I’ll have to try live composite as a light-painting method. The LED streaks made the image special. Not sure why the LEDs, which normally cast daylight temp would appear blue when selecting flash white balance.

    • @RobTrek

    Something I thought of to feature is using the remote shutter and lock in the Olympus Share app. Of course, with a flash and at -3 stops exposure that may not be as important. I use the app or do a 2 sec timer to prevent camera shake on a tripod with a slow shutter.
    I also have used the app to pull a few photos to post on Instagram from an event I am at. Did that at a couple weddings. Just a few at the ceremony right after and after the bridal party dance at the reception . Actually completely right out camera but I may edit later. I will present both the ones from Instagram and the edited to choose from.
    Thing I wish the app had was to mark a picture in camera so I can see it in the app quicker.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use 2 sec timer for most tripod shots, or the custom timer. I avoid using the app when I can see the screen on the camera. And you're right, at -3 stops, basically black anyway in this shot, timer is not really needed.

    8:07 then 8:14 -- I'm afraid I don't understand. So firstly you've got the petals with first flash, and then you've got the stems firing the flash for the second time. But the flowers are constantly moved by the breeze. So how come the stems appeared on the proper place?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since the image is underexposed, the moving flowers aren't seen by the sensor unless I fire the flash.

    • @beholder2012
      @beholder2012 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobTrek I believe you meant "...aren't seen, unless..." rather?
      The point is: when one fires the flash for revealing petals at one moment, and then -- in later moment -- one fires the flash to add the stems, it hardly can be expected the petals (the whole "flower head") will match momentary stems' position.
      So I'm surprised somehow your picture seems to be proper anyway. Pure luck?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@beholder2012 Yes, I meant "aren't". And yes, the stems were moving so it was pure luck. I probably waited for the breeze to stop before taking the two shots. If you look closely, you'll see they're not perfectly aligned.

    With the flowers moving, I'm now thinking that you are using the (-) exposure to keep the base image from moving, while'st you add light. Is that the reason?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The flash will freeze the flower.

  • @MDMiller60
    @MDMiller60 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this and another video you did on LiveComp. However, I am a little confuzed about a minus exposure, especially -3 full stops. I thought the base exposure was supposed to be a correct ambient exposure, such as in a portrait. Why minus if the camera is only looking for 'new light'?
    Thanks.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I want the base exposure to be almost black, then only add in light from the flash or led lights. This is more commonly used when trying to get a black background with flash photography but I used it for live comp.

    Hey Rob, I have been going back through a few of your older tutorials on low key photography. I was hoping to find a "moody product photography" video. Did you do one of these?? if not how's about doing one of these. You have enough camera gear so I am sure that finding a product wont be difficult. Its winter in Canada now and I need some indoor tips. Keep up the good work, I have been following you for a couple years now. Thanks Neil

      Hi. Do a full reset from the shooting menu #1, then half press the shutter button. It should lock focus on a subject. Then watch this video th-cam.com/video/oEdDOYwTlo8/w-d-xo.html It's for the e-m10ii, but the basic principles shown should help you understand the different focusing modes. The E-M1-iii has many more options.

    Hello Rob, another great tutorial. Very inspiring especially now in times of Corona. One thing though was a bit disturbing: what is background piano music good for? I find this distracting, kind of like that you want to overdub what you are saying. This is a fashion everyone seems to adapt to which is really annoying and doesn't add any value at all to the content. Omho. Best, Michael

    • @RobTrek
