Everyone going to Vietnam, make sure you have Grab app installed and your card in there. It's the safest, no rip offs. They also have grab food, grab market, etc in the same app.
I'm so excited for you, I recently came back from Vietnam not too long ago, I seriously love the country more than ever, I haven't been back since 2003, Vietnam has certainly changed alot from what I remembered.. I hope your stay is amazing, as was mine. I can't wait to come back again soon
The little girl is so cute. She got 5 on her test (which is like 50% compared to 100%). She prayed to get better scores next time. I did the same thing when I was a kid 😁.
Only downside after visiting about 15 different places in Vietnam is that I don't like using cash.. but beside that the food and the people among 10 weeks of visiting it's beend the best I've ever been around. IF you go, be sure to take out a couple of 100k's or 1mil in cash (1mil is about 40$). The ATM will charge % per use. Don't shy away from using airbnb just as Zane says.. there are many hotels as well that have part hotel and part airbnb and the only downside is that you don't get breakfast and perhaps have to pay to use the shybar.. normal areas are often included. If going to Hanoi -stay away from booking in Old-Town if it's your first visit... you will get cheaper rooms for next to a third of the price that are 70% better if just looking 10 minutes of taxi(grab) from the area you're going -and Hanoi is a good walking-city. Oh... based on that... download the app Grab. Those 10 minutes away from Old-Town will cost you next to nothing and the ordering of food to your room will (even though still being cheap) cost you more based on what you order.... (we ordered Durian for about 300$ on or last visit and not as much for traveling around). Hope that you had or are going there soon. I've felt in love in their country from this short time.
I worked in Vietnam for a while for the US government and was obsessed with their Bahn Mi, specifically the bread. It was crispy, pillow soft and structured, all at the same time. I baked breads often and have yet to duplicate my Ho Chi Minh experience. Enjoy!
So happy to see your excitement! I hope to be in your position in 20months! Also for any new travellers overwhelmed with the locals trying to sell and show you things...just say, "No money! I have no money!" They will leave you alone alot faster.
Nice one. 👍 I enjoy also vlogging in Vietnam. People are very friendly. I explored more Ha Noi and Da Nang but I promise to visit soon and do some youtube videos also in Saigon 😊
Love Vietnam!! Enjoy your time there and stay safe! it has so much natural variety its crazy! you can go to Ha Long and Da Lat you'd love it! Its also far more developed than the Philippines in terms of its transport and infrastructure, so getting around will be a sinch. Also a fraction of the cost! One of SE Asia's top destinations, for good reason!
@@richardnuevo Oh come on, let's be honest. Vietnam has an HDI level of 0.703 (high), while we are at 0.699 (medium). They have modern trains that criss-cross their country, modern bus lines in cities and between cities, modern expressways, and modern airports. Have you seen the state of our PNR and our "hari ng kalsada"? Try commuting or traveling at night, if you're not in Metro Manila, then the best of luck to you. Even their squatter areas are cleaner than ours. If you haven't been to Vietnam, it's wiser not to comment. There's a reason it's done so much better than the Philippines in attracting tourists, travelers and expats: infrastructure, lower poverty levels, better public transportation and connectivity. Lower crime rates. Less socioeconomic disparity. No NPA/BFIF/Abu Sayyaf. Being envious at others doesn't solve our intrinsic problems with bad infrastructure and public transportation. We have 18% below the poverty line and have pockets of polarized development like BGC or Makati which are way above the average levels of low to medium development, but Vietnam as a whole is at 6%> poverty rates, with less disparity in their development levels. The same is true of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. We can't really be so deluded to think that this country with all its transportation, development, and infra woes is in that league *just* yet. Perhaps give it 10-15 years with good governance and maybe we can see a similar reality to what's happening in neighboring countries? But for now, we collectively needs to be honest. Sticking our fingers in our ears and going "lalalala we are number one" on TH-cam will absolutely achieve nothing. I've stated the truth. Zane has also liked it as he knows exactly what I'm saying. Perhaps, you could perhaps just accept the truth too? Vietnam has better infrastructure and public transportation than the Philippines. Nothing more to say on it.
There goes the healthy eating with fried spring rolls and fried chicken with rice …lol… am sure it will be healthier the rest of the time . I do the same in another country. My thinking is am on vacation so I will eat whatever .
Try the coconut coffee or egg coffee next time and tell us which one you like it better. Visit also the historical places and the French buildings of Saigon
Wow, here is a little tip for you. When someone try to sell you something, DO NOT afraid to say "NO". If you want interesting to try it. Ask them how they sell it. DO NOT let them decide the amount for you. I was shock watching that man dumping a bunch of "Banh Cam" into the bag really fast. If something like this happen again, say 'Hey STOP!". I just want 3 balls... How much is it?.. slow down and take the control of the situation. Don't be afraid to say what you want. I noticed you really enjoy coffee, there is so many options how they prepare the coffee in VN so take your time to explain exactly how you want your coffee. If you want to tryout something more exotic, tell them how you like to try such as sweet or salty side, fruity or creamy like using coconut or egg. I hope this will help your pleasant.
I just found you and this is your first video from VN. I saw that you have made many other videos since, so now you know that what you called cheap in this video was at least twice as much as you’d normally do there.
Maybe it's too late to say this (and maybe I just need to watch your other videos before commenting haha), but one suggestion I will make to help with not overpaying is to make it clear how much of something you want and keep inquiring how much it is. If I were you I would have put my fingers up to indicate amounts of foods or money. I get it though that when you're new to a country you don't have a clear sense of how much things normally are yet. But hopefully you'll get that sense soon from finding more foods and be able to stand your ground more to prevent vendors from trying to sell you too much of something! Hope you enjoyed Vietnam so far and have more wonderful experiences to come.
The rookie mistake, in Asia, but especially Vietnam, is to let them start giving you something before you have discussed payment. Also, do not acknowledge anyone on the street hawking anything. Do not be polite, or they have you... consider yourself warned. Second morning I was in Vietnam, a motorbike taxi guy started following me as I walked in District one. I told him maybe he could give me a lift that afternoon, just to get rid of him. Later, I had a nap and got up and he was waiting outside the hotel. I didn't want to go anywhere and told him so and we ended up almost coming to blows. Maybe is considered a promise. I had to give him some cash to calm him down or I was sure police were going to get involved. Definitely last thing a guy wants in a foreign land.
I'm amazed that you did research about our major religion! You're right, because we don't have a religion doesn't mean that we're all atheists, the most important aspect of our spiritual lifestyle is to worship our ancestors, which really shows our appreciation for our forebears. And also, I'm glad that you did the right thing by burning incense for Thich Quang Duc, that's great! Always keep that cultural appreciation wherever you go to.
Haha! that’s funny massage that’s not special and the boom boom😂. That road with bars and colorful lights look similar to 6th st. of Austin, Texas but that street in HCMC looks lively and fun 🤩
I just had an amazing idea. What if when we get to a new country with a different language we spend the first day focusing on studying how the language works. Is there like a one day course to Vietnamese? I would imagine dedicating one day at the beginning to learn communication will improve every day of a holiday afterwards... Bless
You should get a Charles Schwab card - no atm fees ( you get the money back at the end of the month ) and no foreign transaction fees. Also, always use Grab, Gojek or Uber.. depending on the location. And never exchange money at the airport- they have horrible exchange rates. If you do exchange money, just make it $50 max - just enough to hold you over until the next day / until you can get to an atm. Again, it depends where you are going... if you're traveling to a small town then you might not find an atm so easily.
