I've got another Home Free music reaction video for you guys on the CC! Man of Constant Sorrow. This was a fun one!! I listened to it many times after reacting to it...actually while editing some too haha

During the quarantine, Tim was unable to get to the salon to get the gray covered so he decided to just let the gray grow out. However, he said he wasn't quite ready to be Willie Nelson with long gray hair, so he decided to get it cut. LOL! Austin can also do the harmonica sound. When I saw them in concert 3 weeks ago, they did this song. Austin joined Adam in making the harmonica sounds during that part.

Yes, Tim did an octave drop when the whole group came back in after his solo section. He was hanging out around low baritone for most of his solo, then decided to go, "No, no, I am actually a LOW bass singer!" and dropped to the basement.

They definitely leaned into the bluegrass sound in this one, especially Austin and his choice of pronunciations. (He has probably the widest experience, having gone from singing with his dad's gospel group in the summers when he was a kid to classical voice training to a musical theater degree, so the amount of Southern accent he puts in a song is largely a matter of choice.)
He spent long painful years trying to get rid of the Georgia accent. When he joined HF, they said they'd like him and the accent! The accent allows him to get more friction into the voice and do cute things with the consonants, as seen very clearly here. You're right, a lot of singers have their natural accent which they have to learn to tone down or eliminate.
Love these guys .... listen to them daily .... try their " Helplessly Hoping " or " Brothers In Arms " for perfect harmonies !!!

Their harmonies are amazing this group definitely blows me away , I could listen to them sing all day
A recommendation to really see Tim's " bass" hand directing is their cover of Women, Amen/Female.
Thank goodness he was in the back with Adam because between the both of them they could have knocked everyone on their feet. Lol
This song is one of the first I heard from Home Free, and it took me a while to realize there was no harmonica 😁 The guys are unique, absolutely fantastic, and Tim's bass is just as great as ever.
I found these guys last year. This was the first song I ever heard from them & I was instantly hooked & became a homefry. The talent of these 5 men is insane. Together they are a perfect fit & complement each other so well. Tim Foust is the best bass singer in the business & Adam Rupp their beatboxer extraordinaire can make any sounds & is in a class by himself. I am so glad you heard the bass drop even lower after Tim's solo. So many reactors miss that.

Yes my first song of Home Free as well. & down the Rabbit hole I've been. This gives me chills as do most of their serious songs. Latest one - Brothers in arms particularly. Great reaction, also glad you caught that really low bass from Tim after his solo, not many do.
Ill have to agree with most of what you say here... These guys are truly insane in their abilities. And Adam Rupp, is probably the best beatboxer associated with any acapella group... well the best with any I've seen anyway. I will have to disagree with you on Tim being the best Bass in the biz... I'd put him as #2, really close behind Geoff Castellucci, but I believe Geoff's tone and range is a tad bit better than is Tims, but I love listening to both of them.
@@Grantherum That is a matter of opinion. Geoff is a baritone, not a true bass who uses subharmonic tricks to go low. I find it doesn't sound natural at all.
@@dagmar.6954 Geoff Calls himself a baritone, which is different then him truly being a baritone. The thing is, he calls himself a baritone in the "classic" sense... having to be able to hear someone over a certain distance has little to no bearing over today's musical artists as they are all on microphones. Now, if he were to go for musical theater... yes, he's a baritone for that position, but attached to a microphone, he's truly a bass.
This is the Home Free video that is sent into reactors for their introduction to the group. It showcases the vocals of all but Chance. But he holds it together with background vocals and a killer mouth harp throughout.
And for me....I became a Timothy's fan girl.....that bass and long hair....oh my.
And now with Tim's short hair and grey streak....a very attractive silver fox.

I've watch a number of reactions to this cover - and many totally miss that part where Tim goes sub-basement in the harmony after his solo - glad you caught that ! Great reaction !

Chance was the one who made the mouth harp type sound going in and out of the video you can see him doing it at the end, and I've seen it live too and yes it's Adam's mouth making the harmonica sound! Crazy good huh? Especially when you are in 2nd row within 15 ft. of the guy and you still can't figure out how he does it
I don't think Chance gets enough credit for the work he did on this video. I have seen so many people react to it dozens and dozens and only a couple of people have noticed Chance was doing the mouth harp plus it was in the background almost the hole song. I also think he was responsible for some of the low notes as well. I know he doesn't get as low as Tim but he can hit most of the lows in this song

I was going to say that! I've been frustrated by other reactors who are all impressed by Tim's low solo part and then all fail to notice that he immediately drops down an octave.

Watch Tim’s right hand. He kind of “directs” himself, so you can see when he is changing notes and going lower by what his hand is doing.
this is one of my favs by them.....Adams harmonica still gets me, and I have seen them perform this live...thank you for noticing that Tim dropped an octave after his solo.

I've heard people able to sound like instruments, but Adam's the only one who has ever brought a harmonica to life with only his voice.
It’s so good. When they do this in concert they use a looper. Chance is the one doing the mouth harp (at the beginning and end of the song) and he says it hurts his voice to do it too much so they put it on a looper. Also Austin can also do the harmonica with Adam when they do this live. Tim can go in the basement and then go up to tenor and yes, he couldn’t go to the hairdresser during Covid so he cut his hair and let the gray come through. So older videos show him with his long hair. Home Free has so many good songs. Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, What We Ain’t Got, Folsom Prison Blues, Die a Happy Man, I Can’t Outrun You. Yes, in pre-COVID videos he has long hair. In post COVID videos, he has cut it, and has a silver streak just off center. He said he had been coloring his hair.

The "juice harp" you hear thru most of the song is Adam Chance. Hats off to both Adams!
Chance the baritone in the back, is the one doing the twanging sound of a jews harp. If you want to hear Tim Foust really get low, you need to watch him and Peter Hollens singing Misty Mountains.
Adam used a looper to record the mouth harp sounds because it hurt Chance’s mouth to do it for the entire song. It also freed Chance to contribute to background harmonies. I’ve seen them sing this in person and it sounds fantastic!
Adam Rupp (co-founder with his brother Chris Rupp, (former baritone) who's no longer with group)
Not only the beat boxer, he's a tenor and plays various musical instruments.
Adam's competed in beat boxer competitions.
He credits being a trumpet player, helps him articulate & hear pitches which enables him to master here a make-believe harmonica. Yes he's making the sound of a harmonica with ONLY his mouth!
Nuances:
The 2 tenors Rob & Austin are purposely enunciating differently singing the lead to differentiate between themselves.
When Tim takes lead, one hears Chance doing the bass parts in the background.
When Tim's not doing the lead he's the low, low bass in background that's not a guitar bass. (Tim initially was a tenor)
Chance (baritone) is the one doing the guttural sounds. From time-to-time other members will do some type of beat boxing.
At the end, the camera spans over the various members, one can see him mouthing the sounds.
Oh, Chance's first name is Adam. It was confusing to have 2 Adams, so called Chase to avoid confusion.
Chance is the 'real' country boy (Alabama raised in the back country).
Austin is Georgia boy loves to fish.
Hey my g, i suggest listening to "Helplessly hoping" and "how great thou art" by them. I guarantee you've never heard such heargasmic harmonies

Love the No-Monica part, it is my favorite.
I like how they took on all the end of phrase slide-ups, vocal breaks and more or less early 1900's pre-bluegrass style.
Adam Rupp's harmonica work completes the whole feel of the song.
Did you notice Chance using harmonic overtone singing to do the Jew's harp sound and Adam Rupp doing the record crackle sound at the very beginning? For me, besides this song being beautiful sounding and fun to listen to, it is also a showcase for most of their a capella technical skills.

Martin, are you sure Adam is doing the crackling sound? It has always sounded more like rain to me. It is raining (as you can see), and I am assuming that actual rain was recorded and added in production.

Every since I heard these guys (this was the first song I heard ) I have been in love with their music. They are absolutely one of the best ever. For me they are on the same level as Queen, Elton John, Lynard Skynard, The Rolling Stones and even the Beatles.

In the live concerts they have to use a Looper in this song.
I saw them do this live. They use a looper for the repetitive stuff and are careful to show how it works and why they use it (Adam Rupp uses it for this song since not even he can do both fake drums and fake harmonica at the same time, and Adam Chance uses it to repeat that nee-nah overtone sound as it is rough on his vocal cords. Rob uses it for the dah dah doo sound as he has to sing also). And yes they do a heckuva a job live.... Austin adds a train sound as Adam does his no-harmonica solo.

Check out Austin's channel for so much more...including Austin and Tim in "My Maria"..as well as Austin performing songs in the key of the original performers. Also Tim in Misty Mountains and Sea Shanty Melody hits the basement and stays there...but Tim can also sing Tenor (My Maria)....amazing stuff, all sooo talented and diverse voices. Adam can even sing a beautiful tenor (How Great Thou Art). Dont watch "May Day" until you have seen a few more HF videos. Your right, there isn't a bad one in the bunch. I love these guys and have yet to hear a song from them as a group or as solo artists that I didn't like or love.

Self taught...no vocal training. Raised himself on the street from the age of seven. You will be shocked...enjoy! 👍

Of course you’ve just scratched to surface of HF’s catalog, and you will continue to be surprised by their versatility…but you may want to branch out to their awesome collaborators with other artists, particularly Peter Hollens who is incredibly talented as well (ex. “Desert rose”). I would highly recommend “I still haven’t found”, and “Misty mountains”

Just starting down the youtube acapella rabbit hole I see... well good luck with it.
While you're chasing that rabbit, besides homefree, and vocal point, that I've seen you already hit up on vids... you should also check out a few others... like, Pentatonix, VoicePlay, Voctave, Peter Hollens... Well the list truly goes on and on from there, but those are some of my favorites...

For the repetitive parts in live shows, they use a looper only so that the background can stay consistent while Rob, Adam and Chance do other things. Plus the jaw harp sound hurts Chance's throat if he does it too long. They do their part into the looper in front of the audience so people can see its not just a beat track or something. They use is sparingly though so as to not take away from the live performance.
