    Geoff was born in Virginia & Orlando is north enough to still have a pretty southern feel. Geoff definitely has a southern vibe in his accent, it’s not super prominent, but it shows up throughout his regular speech. Also, as far as practice goes Geoff is 41 & he has been a professional singer since he was 18 so he only has a 23 year lead on you 😂

    I thought you might enjoy this chuckle re Geoff's outfit -- another reactor (can't remember now, might have been What It Do Dave) was heard to observe that Geoff's bass-ness was so intense that he had to wear a straitjacket to hold it all in. Heh.

    The soothing thing with bass voices is real. When my kids were babies id they were fussy their grandpa would lay with them on his chest and just drop his voice and talk, boom quiet baby. I think it's the vibrations rocking your bones LOL.

    You do realize that at the end you started referring to “them”? (Don’t worry, at one point I found myself thinking how much I liked the solo from the one on the right.)
    I think if you heard Jeff talk, you’d find that he comes by the southern accent naturally. And he doesn’t always sound southern when singing low notes. But one thing I especially like is his diction. Unlike some singers, there’s never any doubt what words he’s singing.
    I do like your reactions. Keep ‘em coming!

    Really enjoyed the addition of Doobie to the reaction. He added a new facet of seriousness to your crazy antics!
    I watch a lot of reactors and several that concentrate on the formation of the sounds. They often say that they will alter the vowel that they’re using to make it clear what they’re singing or to be able to sustain a note longer.
    Jennifer Glazhofer (not sure I spelled that right) and Peter Barber ( also a bass with a lower speaking voice than Geoff) have remarked several times on this. Peter is a bass himself has stated that it takes less effort to sustain a note with some vowel sounds. I think Elizabeth from the Charismatic Voice has also discussed this a few times.
    I think it also has to do with the amount of volume that is necessary for a low note to travel. A soprano doesn’t have to work as hard to get her notes heard from a distance because higher frequencies travel more quickly. But a bass has to use different techniques to get those sounds to come across at full volume. Geoff has often remarked that he is a quiet singer so I think it’s probably more so for him because of the techniques he uses to get to those low notes especially since his voice is so smooth compared to some of the others.

    I've heard the Geoff was born in West Virginia, and of course, he has lived in Florida since he was young. So, some of the accent might be natural. Other times, it could be a choice. I know as a soprano, I have to modify some vowels when hitting high pitches.

    • @charlesrich9267
      @charlesrich9267 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I am haphazardly trying to explain is that certain pitches will project better with different vowel shapes in your mouth, some of which are perceived as a southern accent. I'm pretty sure that all of these guys are originally classically trained as 90% of singers are which would kill the chance with singing in a "southern accent" unless it is stylistical like what Tim mostly does.

    The institution for the hopelessly insane of Idaho is in Orofino. And every state has one or more. But what's hilarious is that the Orofino High School mascot's name is the "Maniacs". Or at least used to be, and that without a subsidy from Warner Bros. Probably succumbed to rampant PC by now, though.

    11:00 - History Nerd, never been to Wyoming, but I'm always curious about local lore, so I paused to google Evanston, WY. Nothing of interest on Wikipedia, so I spent a few minutes typing various searches. Finally found the Wyo History website. First note: the massacre of Chinese residents in 1885. I don't really see Geoff's coat as "Chinese," it's a bit more Cossack if anything, so I read more. Second historical note: it's the home of the Wyoming Insane Asylum. Ahhhhh... now THAT makes sense why you'd think it looks like he "escaped."
    My "History Nerd" itch is satisfied, and now I know more about Evanston, WY, than probably anyone else in Oregon.

    You say "com-forth"? It's pronounced: kuhm-frt, so yeah, drag that out as a long note and it is "fert". That really isn't an example of changing vowels to reach certain notes.
    edit: lol I went back to when you said "listen to when he sings 'comfort'" and you literally pronounced it the same way he does lmao ('cause, y'know.. that's how it's pronounced)

    • @charlesrich9267
      @charlesrich9267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Geoff does a really good job of being very conscious of how he shapes phrases and making sure that unaccented syllables stay unaccented. That in conjunction with how he shapes is vowels is the epitome of proper classically trained singing opposed to how you would here your local church choir singing. They would say "com-fort" where as Geoff basically uses an eh-schwa like you would in in normal speech instead of a tall O vowel.
