You said it - their diction is so clear that one often realizes meanings in a song that you hadn't really heard previously (for example their rendition of "Born in the U.S.A." - I've seen American politicians use it and obviously they've misunderstood it!). Thanks for playing this and your analysis and commentary.

I love that we got to hear Adam sing in this one. I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing that high part you mentioned about halfway through the song. He has a beautiful tenor voice.

I was a military wife for 20+ years, lost my hero to PTSD, they made this into a amazing tribute to the military, I cry every time I listen, been a Home Fry for years, but this song just sealed my love of Home Free, thank you God for them, they are all angels

I agree whole heartedly. I've listened to Dire Straits singing this maybe hundreds of time through the years and its haunting beauty has never failed to bring tears to my eyes. And while sounding slightly different (took me 3-4 go-rounds to get used to Tim's bass rumble) this rendition has become just as beloved.

Adam Chance has said that this is his favorite song since he was a teen. BTW, it was Tim's idea to add the echo effect after those few lines. Genius move on his part.

I know this it has been 1 year ago since you reacted to his.. One thing to note in this that no one I have seen has commented on.. is Adam Rupp is SINGING in this one NOT doing his usual beatboxing. I maybe wrong but you asked who is doing the really high voice? It could be Austin or it also could be Adam Rupp! Adam Rupp did the high pitch voice sounds on Home Free's version of "Listen to the Music" cover from The Doobie Brothers. Also excellent and pretty much "Listen to the Music" has Adam Rupp's talents all over it! Not only in doing the phenomenal beatboxing but the high pitch sounds he makes in that video!

The dropped jaw when Tim sings the opening lines seems to be the standard reaction from just about every reactor I've listened to. And the amazing thing is that there is no bass line in the harmonies behind the beginning of Chance's first lead. That means Tim was singing high harmonies there. They are all so amazingly talented.

From Butts remix, Hillbilly bone, and others that show their vocal prowess AND humor, to Hopelessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art to this song, that puts you on emotional roller coaster. I cant say ANYTHING negative about any of Home Free's music, and this one is SO beautiful, and as you said, timely. Great reaction.

All I could think of listening & watching this video was the futility of war in any country. There are no winners only losers. I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies. And you are right these guys enunciate the words clearly where a lot of other singers mumble.

I am emotionally wore out. So beautifully done by all, lighting, staging, singing, and harmonizing. I call Tim Foust (the bass singer) "The Singing Dragon", the depth that he can go and the "scale" he can go high is nothing but amazing!!

  • @lisaseverance6785
    @lisaseverance6785 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Perfect arrangement, perfect vocals. Tim's bass gives the vocal weight that this song demands. And Chance's smooth baritone...I swear his voice was made for songs like this. But then he does something like "Some Girls Do" and I have to rethink it.
Since we are heading into the holiday season, I would strongly suggest "Do You Hear What I Hear?" for several reasons. 1. Arrangement is by Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) and is one of the most unique and breathtaking arrangements of that song I have ever heard. 2. The Vocals are stunning. 3. You may be able to catch some of the things Tim does vocally. (Hint - Watch his hand. He tends to conduct himself, especially in his lower range) It is an older song, before Chance joined. At the time, co founder and brother of Adam Rupp, Chris, was covering the baritone/tenor range. But is still very much a masterpiece.

@@lisaseverance6785 Actually, there's a video of them performing on the CMA press stage in... I want to say 2014 where they were given only 2 mics, so Rob, Austin, and Chris took one, and Adam and Tim took the other. Adam's beatboxing sometimes involves him pulling the mic in close or moving it further away, so Tim was constantly trying you adjust you where he needed to sing. Toward the end Adam accidentally (lightly) hits Tim with the mic.
I've often joked that I'm not sure Adam could beatbox if his hands were tied.

There were more visuals in this video that some may not have noticed. As a veteran and understanding this song, I noticed this group of men standing in distant formation and as the light passes through Chance and Tim it signifies the soldiers who didn’t make it home. Also, when Tim stands in front of the window and the ray of light passes over him it makes a cross as his silhouette resembles that of the soldier on the black POW/MIA flag that’s flying under old glory.

You know, I know your channel is new, but your reaction to Home Free and Auston is phenomenal, I love it! *Bisquit!* So, now I've watched all your HF+Auston reactions like 10 times, and decided that it was about time to subscribe to your channel (knowing that you're doomed to continue falling into that rabbit hole). I can't wait till this journey makes you start reacting to Peter Hollens as well, he's a legend, and works so much with Home Free, and with their members individually, especially Tim. Can't wait for your reaction to "Helplessly Hoping", as Mette suggested below. And you haven't done "Man of Constant Sorrow" or "In the Blood" yet, I just can't wait to see your reaction to them! Awesome channel, I like your personality, and your explaining - it shows you're a teacher, love it!

A lot of those high notes are also Adam Rupp. His range is insane and when he's not beatboxing, he's up in Tenorland doing more wonderful things with his voice.

Absolutely fantastic musical and emotional reaction to this piece, but surprised you did not comment on the videography with them being transparent, denoting that these were the spirits of deceased soldiers.

This was my first time hearing the song all together, so I was trying to focus on many things…didn’t really grasp the true meaning of the song until after I reacted. Went back to listen again :)

@@creativecrewfam Please don't get me wrong. If I came across as critical, that was not my intention. Been playing and singing since I was 6 (72 years and counting) and Home Free finally surpassed the Hi Lows as my favorite quartet (I don't count the beatboxer).

I enjoy the A Capella style of music, I count myself as a "Home Free" fan & do think the group did a very admirable job on it...
    Unfortunately....
"Brother's in Arms" has been my all time fav Dire Straits song since it first came out in '85 & never fails to move me to the verge of tears.
The lead-in of the light guitar notes mixed with the storm...
    the thought provoking lyrics
Knopfler's soulful & absolutely ICONIC guitar...
As said above, HF made a great effort,
but to me, this falls short when compared to the original.

with over - the - ear headphones. New subscriber, can
hardly wait until you start going through Home Free's
holiday music. I love Snowglobe and What Child Is This
    for starters. Be well.

Subbed! Thanks so much. It's awesome isn'tit? I appreciate you immediately mentioning the minor chords. A lot of people don't realize that is not that easy to sing such tight harmonies, and even more so in minor. It's what makes things so haunting. Love this arrangement. Like organ chords here or there and the end one! Take care, thanks. So many more we love from these guys! We are super loyal fans, been to six live shows. They are hilarious and fun and funny. This one wasn't that way, of course, but love them all the time. They do sing their words so clearly don't they, in their live shows also. They are well trained musicians!

Brothers in Arms written by Mark Knoffler of Dire Straits in the 80s . Falklands War.
Mark was left handed but played right without plectrums.
Listen to the original, also listen to Sultan of Swing Alchemy.
    I love ♥️this version.
