2 Ways of Building Websites

- There are two types of websites. A normal website that is either used for marketing or sharing information. And another is Web app, that is used as a tool or product. A Web app is more interactive and dynamic. Whereas a normal website is like a digital version of a magazine or banner. More design focused and less interactive.
Now, building these websites require different designs, objectives, and coding skills. Let’s take a look at them.

Great analysys, Sajid. I was wondering, why Apple put active button - "Learn more" over the "Buy"? Any suggestions?
Great question. To be honest, I don't know the real answer. Let me pin your comment, I am also interested to know why they didn't pick the buy option as primary button.
My insight for this is that, the word "Buy" is too literal and surface-level. The word is so crude you may associate it to something like "buying milk", "buying paper", "buying wood" etc. The visual design leads you to "Learn more", which implies that you, the user, is going for the "intellectual" and more "sophisticated" action. Which puts you in a persona wherein "You are a wise consumer, since you learned more about it instead of recklessly buying." Now that you have "Learned more", you are now more superior to the typical, reckless, consumer. Your perspective regarding "Buy" have now changed, now that you have reached that phase, then you click Buy and make the purchase.
My assumption is that Apple has research insights that customers predominant behaviors are reviewing product information, specs and comparing against different Apple products.
If this is the case that the first user behavior is typically an in-depth review of product information, Apple may be trying to help customers complete that step with more convenience, which could result in more conversion rates.
@@lancewilliamcatal6870 I was thinking along the same lines, but can't say that with certainty.

But Wikipedia is also in fact a very complex Web App. The software it runs on is called MediaWiki and has to support all sortrs of things, including editing, to keep the project going. It's written in PHP. I say this as a programmer and a former Wikipedia administrator.
I know. But for normal users it acts as a normal website.
This is so beautifully produced, as a software engineer who often struggles with design, I love the principles you cover here.

Thanks a ton!
I love how you clearly explained in this video about the differences between: web designer vs web developer, static vs dynamic websites, websites vs web app. You cleared thing up in this video phenomenally. Thank you for this video! 😀
I visited your web page that was in the description. Just awesome❤. I got some knowledge. Thanks sajid
Please, do more videos. Great content every time.
Most underrated channel
Thanks 😊
Interesting talk. As a front-end dev and design lover, I can easily relate to everything you said.
Only thing is at times you made it feel like the website was just a personal project and the web app was some huge enterprise project. Also you didn't mention no/low-code solutions being available to help you build web apps faster. An emerging market, rapidly growing. Also, there are some CMSes, headless or not, which remove a huge layer of complexity when devs have to manage data.
Cheers and keep 'em coming ☺️
At the end of the day, you'll always need some custom fancy design for your web apl or somee dynamic features on your static website. 😊✌️
Yeah, I am new to this TH-cam thing, and I too feel what you are saying. Will try to do a better job in future videos.
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment. I love that you were paying attention 🤎
This is the most clever video I've seen. For someone like me, who is approaching to understand the basics of building a websites, this is gold. Thank you!
Wow, thanks for writing this lovely comment. Glad the video was helpful!
You know what? I wasnt even starting to work as a freelance web developer for many years even though i know how to build website on wordpress because i was thinking its going to be too much hardwork and thinking process into building a even single website (time=money). I was thinking i wouldnt be able to make alot of money out of freelance website builder because even only one website will takes weeks if not months to build and i wont make enough money out of freelance.
But after watching this video, it gives me new hope and new direction. Now i can build many wesbites and even scale them.m, still its hardwork but not too hard after watching this video. I am really thankful to Sajid after watching this video, it makes things easy for me. Thank you sir. 😊 can you also tell how to use variables for css in wordpress website?? Its would be alot of helful.
The easy way to set CSS variables is this:
Go to customization > Global Settings > Global Headings, colors, and buttons.
I haven't used WordPress in a long time, but you just set a lot of design elements in the settings and then just reuse them throughout.
But check new tutorials, maybe there are new and better ways to do that in 2024.
Quality > Quantity ❤✨
I truly believe in that. Thanks for watching.

When coding a web app you need to think and engineer a lot of stuff. It takes time. When doing a web site for a business as an example, you don't need to engineer nearly anything, but you need to try different designs and work with css a lot. It takes a lot of time just for a simple thing like a page. A website for a school can take a month and it's not even complicated, just takes time. A web app is more fun

0:36 i wouldnt call apps backend heavy
since apps can also work offline and require more client side interactivity
tbh an app usually makes both backend and frontend heavier.
Amazing in-depth research
Thanks
Thanks for your time!
My pleasure!
Its just a static website vs dynamic website thing
Building web apps makes me want to scratch my eyes out, no structure at all, just gluing shit together with XML. Regular apps ftw tbh. Great vid
Yeah, that's right. Thanks for watching
skill issue ngl
@@rkpinata373 Not exactly, some excel at building marketing sites, some at games, and most at apps. We all have different interests and passion.
@@whosajid but who build web apps with xml nowadays? wouldnt you use one of the popular frameworks
@@rkpinata373 I know, but maybe their company or client is really in love with XML. I don't know. Just didn't feel right to say you need better skills.
But I would definitely recommend using a popular frameworks/modern technologies to build and ship apps.

Your explanation on the 2 types of websites made foggy future in my massive change in career path clearer.
This is my first time here, and I'm starting to wonder what other insights you have to share.
If you are coming from design background, it's better to design and build normal/marketing sites.

Which hosting would you recommend for a Saas php webapp? I am looking for a good but cheap hosting.

Honestly, I don't know. Better to ask in SaaS & webdev sub reddits.

This way over simplifies websites and the fact that many enterprise size websites contain integrated apps. Enterprise websites also need to be just as responsive as apps and also often need to be accessible.
This also says that websites need more design considerations than apps do. This isn’t true. I am a professional designer & developer. If you want a good web app or website (a particular type web app) you must have both good design and problem solving.
The only websites that could be considered to need less problem solving are the ones where the problems have already been solved and a customer is just using it like a product.
Of course I over simplified. I over simplified the process as well. But I also said sometimes you mix both: Design and functionality.
@@whosajid Fair points and yes, I did catch that you had said that sometimes you mix both. While I do believe it is most often that the two are mixed-I believe your video is valuable to devs and designers who are trying to make sense of the complexities they face with web solutions. I personally enjoyed the video which is why I also wanted to engage in discourse with you and your audience.
@@JonathanLoganClark It's all good man.

Will keep that in mind, Thanks for your feedback.

which db should i used to make a webapp
